Chapter 25

Michael's POV

Okay. That was definitely strange. That was the most awkward conversation Connor and I have had in days. Not to mention how he caught me staring at him. Well, to be fair, that was completely my fault. I know I should probably not be like over analyzing every single fucking thing that happens, but this just seemed a bit too strange for it to be nothing, right? Again, it's probably nothing and I'm just overthinking, again, it could just be a simple walk, right? But with everything that's happened recently, Connor asking me to places. And by now I know it's not like the Jeremy middle school thing, because there's actually a chance of Connor's crush being me.

Aaaaand now I'm thinking it is date, but he didn't use the word date. Maybe though, Connor's the kind of person that has a hard time calling something a date if he doesn't know if who he's asking out likes him. But I don't know, and I probably shouldn't assume. Though, everything that's happened within like however many days it's been sorta makes me think I am the crush. Which, obviously, probably makes no fucking sense and just is my mind playing tricks on me. I'll just wait for later today I guess.

There was an awkward tension in the air. It almost felt like it had when we first met all those weeks ago. I was on the couch staring at where Link was doing his idle animation and Connor had disappeared into his room. When I glanced over at said room, Connor was drawing something in a sketchbook. I'd seen the sketchbook before so it didn't really surprise me. It felt weird with this tension in the air, and I couldn't help but wonder if this is a date. I know I probably shouldn't be so hung up on it but. "Connor?" I called and he looked up from the sketchbook. "Can I ask you something?" Connor narrowed his eyes in slight confusion.

"Yeah?" He asked. He placed the sketchbook down and walked into the living room, where he sat next to me. I took a breath.

"This thing we're doing later... is it a date?" I asked simply. Everything just seemed to tell me it was what I thought it was and it seemed strangely similar to the whole Á La Mode thing that Jeremy and Christine seemed to believe was an actual date. Connor blinked and ran a hand through his hair, though he was smiling.

"Well? Yeah, it is." He chuckled. "Sorry about all this fucking like, nervousness about it. I've never been good at romantic things. So like, asking people out and stuff. Believe it or not, usually my previous crushes would've figured it out before I even attempted to ask them out." I smirked.

"So, Miguel?" I commented. Connor playfully glared at me.

"Well, he was my best friend so that probably played into it as well. But I don't fucking know. Miguel wasn't the only one though." He shrugged. "But yeah, this is a date. If you want it to be." I smiled at him.

"Well, I don't mind it being that." I fiddled with my glasses a bit afterwards. The awkward tension had dissipated pretty fast now that I knew it was a date. I gazed at Connor. "Does this mean that Clyde is our 'child' now? You know, the Pac-Man ghost." Connor narrowed his eyes.

"Michael, I was there when you won him for me." He then smirked. "But if he is technically our child now, I think he likes me better as his father? I don't fucking know."  I rolled my eyes but smiled.

"You're just saying that because he spends most of his time in your room." Connor shrugged gazing back at where the plushie was lying on his bed. "I'm sure he loves his other parent just as much," I added also looking at Clyde.

"You know we're talking about a plushie, right? A stuffed object that doesn't actually have feelings or emotions?" I gasped dramatically and Connor giggled.

"Connor Murphy, how could you say that about our son?!" I couldn't keep it together however and started giggling half way through. "Okay, maybe I am a bit dramatic."

~~~
Connor and I both left the building and started walking together. It was close to sunset and we were both watching the scenery. After a while, I started to recognize the scenery. I've been here before. Connor was looking at me when I looked at him. I have sneaking suspicion I know where we're going.
Connor and I had both eaten beforehand so we probably wouldn't be going exactly that way but everything seemed too familiar to be a coincidence. Then, Connor spoke. "How did you find out you liked me?" I blinked. "Well, like me like that."
"Honestly, it was kinda after a conversation I had with Jake. I'd heard you like, laugh or whatever or smile and was wondering if I liked you like that exactly. The Jake conversation wasn't anything important, but yeah. Also, I think he and Rich have a thing going on." Connor smirked.
"Is it like Jared and Evan or that theory I have?" He asked. I giggled a bit.
"Please Connie, it's nothing like that. For one, they actually seem to reciprocate each other feelings." Connor stifled a laugh. "Anyways, how did you find out you liked me?"
"I didn't."
"What?"
"I was in total denial. My sister had to basically hit me over the head with a lecture on how: 'time period does nothing when it comes to whether you're attracted to them or not.' Or whatever. I was a fucking idiot."
"Wow," I laughed. We just continued to walk in silence and soon we came to... the park. Sunset and the park were gorgeous together. The setting sun was casting a glow on everything, even Connor's eyes which looked much lighter. We walked over to a bench and sat down. "Wow, this is kinda pretty at sunset, not gonna lie."
"I know. Honestly didn't expect it, this place had a romantic aura anyways, but it just seems to add to it. It's nice." Connor's long hair was in a ponytail, maybe he didn't only wear a ponytail for drawing purposes. He straightened in seat a bit.
"Fun fact: I'm actually basing a background on this in that one game I'm making," I commented. Connor looked at me.
"Really? Is that something you need to make a concept? Like, do I need to draw anything related to that?" I smiled at him.
"No, but let's not think about that right now," I suggested, leaning slightly so I could put my head on Connor's shoulder and he turned to look at me. I looked up at him and our eyes met. As if in a trance, we started to lean toward each other before Connor stopped himself and asked..
"Michael, can I kiss you?"
