-Asriel's POV-

Chara, although being deathly sick, insisted on going out to the flower bed to look at the stars. I took a flashlight from under my bed and held it tightly. I peeked out the door.

Mom's snoring proved her slumber, and Dad was hardly ever here. I switched on the small flashlight and helped Chara out. Our soft footsteps echoed in the hall and I feared it was too loud.

We finally arrived to the flower bed and collapsed on it. There were so many stars, it was like... I don't even know! Just beautiful. I saw one shoot across the dark sky.

Chara brought up a memory to eliminate the silence growing between us. "Remember when we scared Mom so much, she fainted?" I laughed. "That was so funny! But scary at the same time." I finished.

"Come on, hurry up!" Chara rushed as I pulled power lines. Mom had this fuse box behind her bookshelf which we messed with. Finally, the lights went out, and I heard Mom walk in after shopping.

"Crap! Okay, Azzi get the mask!" We ran to our room to receive the mask we made. "Children!" Mom called. I put the mask on and Chara stood close behind me. "Why are the lights out?" I heard mom say.

I expertly made creepy noises, moans and hisses. I saw Mom turn into the dining room. I stood at the hall and tapped the wall. She looked back and gasped, but I slipped from view. "Asriel... Chara?" She whispered.

Chara stepped out from behind me. Her face was covered with an unbelievably real fear. "M-mom...!" She 'managed.' She was really good! We could both see how horrified Mom was.

"Chara! Come quick, I think there's something in the house..." Chara stepped forward, and this was my cue. I had a back glove with crinkled black paper rolled up in the gloves fingers to look like long, creepy, tree-like fingers.

In the dark, it looked better. That's all I can say.

I reached out quickly and grabbed her arm. Chara shrieked. I pulled her back and into the room. "Switch!" I whispered as I took off the mask and gloves, giving them to her.

"Chara...!" Mom gasped. I watched her run down the stairs where I go sometimes. I snuck out and went to the kitchen, Chara behind me. It was really dark in this part so we were tripping each other.

Finally, we were at the living room, but with a lot of stumbling involved. Mom ran back up, and I stood there, shaking in a false fear. "Asriel!" Mom stage-whispered. "Asriel... come here!"

"M-mom...!" I managed, in fear I would start laughing and ruin the whole prank. "There's something in the house... it got Chara!" Mom shook. "I know, come he-ASRIEL!" Mom yelled as Chara/demon-thing-we-made-up grabbed my arm slowly.

I winced, and whispered, "Mom..." and yelped as Chara pulled me in. "Asriel!" In a moment, there was light. Mom's fire... I thought. And, I was right. There were flames coming toward us. Fortunately, I know how to set it out (don't ask).

I lifted my fuzzy palm and concentrated. Within seconds, Mom's light source died. She gasped. "Around." I whispered to Chara, so quietly, I don't even think she heard me. But she nodded, the spooky black mask on her face.

Chara crawled out on the floor, it being so dark, she was not seen. Then, when I was sure Chara was behind Mom, I stepped out. "Asriel!" Mom whispered. "You're okay!" I shook and pointed. "I-It's behind y-you!" Mom turned, and Chara screeched her really creepy screech.

Mom gasped and fell back, but Chara and I didn't notice that since we were dying with laughter! Finally, I noticed my mother laying motionless on the floor.

"Did we scare her to death?" Chara asked, only half kidding it sounded. Suddenly, Mom's eyes flew open. I turned on my flashlight and Chara followed suit. "Mom, are you okay?"

"Asriel! Chara! You're okay!" She sputtered. She wrapped her arms around us and held us close. "There's something in the house..." Mom managed. I looked over her shoulder at Chara.

"That was us, Mom..." Chara sighed. "Yeah," I added. "It was a silly prank! We didn't think you'd faint..." After a moment, Mom laughed. We began to laugh too, but nervously.

"You two scared the death outta me!" She giggled. "And you've got dishes for the week." Chara and I sighed and rolled our eyes. Mom figured how to put the lights back on quickly and sent us off to bed.

-Chara's POV-

I erupted into a fit of coughing, which was a failed attempt at laughing. I felt Asriel grab my hand. Fear and sadness ran up my spine in a cold chill.

"Chara, we should head back..." He told me in a tone I knew I couldn't argue with. But I still fought back, in fear this was my last night.

My palms were clammy, I was always hacking up a lung, and some days vomiting like madness. I hated this. It made Asriel scared and it made me scared.

I clutched his fuzzy hand. Then I rolled over and hugged him. "Oh, Chara..." Asriel hugged me back. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

Tears stung at the back of my eyes. My throat was tight, my heart being squeezed by freezing fingers. "Because..." I squeaked. I cleared my throat and tried again.

"Because I love you, Azzi..." I froze. My sad heart almost stopped beating, my breaths short. "And I hate seeing you like this..."

I felt a warm tear hit my cheek, and I wasn't mine. Asriel held me tighter.

"Because I love you..."
