The blizzard

It was early afternoon when (Y/n) was going out to the barn to visit Ulaz and give him something to eat and drink like usual; on her way to the barn she listened to the satisfying crunch of the snow under her boots, it was one of her favorite parts of winter. Since it was nearly (W/h) (Y/n) was in a really good mood, the snow lightly falling and tickling her eyelashes made her feel even more in the (W/h) spirit. While Ulaz waited for (Y/n) he was thinking about the dimension he came from and hoped the paladins would be able to work with the Blade of Marmora to stop Zarkon from taking over the universe. After entering the barn (Y/n) climbed the ladder and saw Ulaz deep in thought about something, she kind of felt bad for disturbing him. A few seconds later Ulaz noticed (Y/n) and looked at her, a neutral expression crossing his face.

"Hey Ulaz, I brought you some more food and water." (Y/n) said kindly as she climbed into the hayloft and walked over to where he sat in the hay.

"Thank you." Ulaz thanked her once she handed him the bag with the food and water in it; he didn't mind (Y/n) visiting him as much as he did a few days prior, but she still made him feel low-key unnerved.

"Are you okay?" (Y/n) asked him with a concerned tone; she didn't expect him to fully trust her right away, but she was still concerned about his well-being.

Ulaz wasn't entirely sure how to answer her question; he was alive and his wounds were beginning to heal, but he'd been sent to a new dimension where he didn't fit in. Aside from the war going on in his old dimension he missed it, in the new dimension he could never go home or help the paladins put a stop to the galra empire once and for all. He'd only been living in (Y/n's) barn for around a week and he still hadn't adjusted to living on Earth in another dimension, the day and night cycles were strange enough to him. (Y/n) just stood there and waited for Ulaz to say something, she understood that adjusting to a new way of life would be difficult for him. She figured that his adjustment period would go easier once she had his room ready by later that evening, she just hadn't told him about it yet.

"I'm fine." Ulaz replied gruffly after a few moments, hoping that she wouldn't ask him too many questions, mainly ones he preferred not to answer.

"If you don't mind me asking, what were you thinking about?" (Y/n) hesitantly inquired, hoping that she wasn't pushing too many boundaries since all she wanted to do was help him feel at home.

"Nothing." Ulaz answered as he looked away, lowering his ears in sorrow.

"Okay… Have you been on any interesting missions before?" (Y/n) asked him curiously, attempting to change the subject to something she thought he would enjoy talking about.

"My past missions must be kept secret, even though I am in a different dimension. I made an oath to never tell anyone what I’ve done and what our plans were." Ulaz spoke firmly, making direct eye contact while he pinned his ears back; he never meant to frighten (Y/n), but his past affairs weren't meant to be shared, especially with a stranger.

"Okay okay, I get the point. I'm sorry for asking." (Y/n) apologized, deciding to leave since he seemed more irritable than usual.

"Thank you for understanding." Ulaz responded before he opened the bag, his tone softening as he spoke since he accepted her apology.

(Y/n) bid him a temporary farewell before she turned around, walked over to the hole in the floor and climbed back down the ladder from the hayloft. She never meant to offend Ulaz, but she still wasn't entirely sure what conversation topics were okay and which ones weren't. After she left the barn Ulaz started eating the food she'd brought for him; he felt guilty for speaking so harshly when she asked him such a simple question, the problem was that talking about some of his past missions brought back bad memories, especially during his time undercover in the galra empire. He appreciated (Y/n's) help and that she was keeping his existence a secret, he would be sure to apologize to her later and thank her for her help. Until then Ulaz focused on eating so he would be as cold, living in the hayloft didn't exactly give him the best protection from the freezing winter temperatures.

"Well, he sure is stubborn." (Y/n) mumbled to herself on her way back to her house; by that point she forgot to tell Ulaz that his room was ready and decided to give him a little time to cool off before telling him later.

Things between them would be tense and awkward for a while since Ulaz wasn't used to being around people, especially humans who he knew little to nothing about. However, he was never directly rude to anyone for the sake of being rude; his parents taught him manners, although he could sometimes act rude when someone pushed his buttons. In the meantime (Y/n) decided to make sure that everything in the guest bedroom and bathroom were absolutely perfect for when she brought Ulaz inside, he deserved it after everything he'd been through. She didn't take his stubborn behavior earlier too personally, although she wouldn't ask him too much about his past from then on to avoid upsetting him again. Having Ulaz living inside would make both of their lives a lot easier, all (Y/n) had to do was wait for the perfect time to actually bring him inside of the house.

__________

(Y/n) spent a little time in the spare bedroom and bathroom to make sure everything was perfect before she went out to the barn later that night to sneak Ulaz inside, she wanted him to live comfortably before he got sick if he stayed out in the cold for too long. She made sure there were plenty of blankets and pillows on the bed, soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom and some snacks stashed in one of the dresser drawers. Having the one and Ulaz as a houseguest was exciting for (Y/n), even though he could be really grumpy sometimes and kind of irritable; it would also be easier for her to give him food since she'd almost been caught a few times sneaking it out to the barn. (Y/n) was about to go out to the barn when her mother stopped her and told her to look outside, unfortunately mother nature had other plans in the form of a whiteout blizzard. The young woman looked out through one of the windows and saw that there was a blizzard blowing furiously outside and she knew that she wouldn't be able to go out to the barn; she thought it would end by nighttime but she was wrong, it only seemed to get worse as time went by.

"When is the blizzard going to end?" (Y/n) asked her mom after a couple of hours, once again checking to see if the storm had ended only to see that it hadn't.

"It's going to end sometime tomorrow before noon." (M/n) replied before she went into the next room, not thinking much of her daughter's antsy behavior; Caramel and Storm would be safe in the barn, she just didn't know about Ulaz.

(Y/n) looked outside again and sighed, she was really worried about Ulaz because he was in the hayloft where it would be cold, although she couldn't tell her parents about him. She looked down when she felt Sasha rubbing herself against her legs and picked her up off of the floor, smiling when her sweet little kitty rubbed her nose against one of her cheeks. Meanwhile, Ulaz was listening to the blizzard blowing outside the barn while trying to stay as warm as possible and hoping (Y/n) would have the spare room ready for him soon. He curled up in the hay in order to help himself keep warm; the blanket helped a little and so did his uniform, but they weren't enough and he still felt freezing cold. Ulaz wished that he had thicker fur like either Thace or Antok, it wasn't the first time he found himself somewhere cold and he knew that it most likely wouldn't be the last.

“Why must this planet be so cold? Only Sendak would prefer being here.” Ulaz muttered to himself while shivering under the blanket, hoping that he wouldn't freeze to death before the next day came.

It would be a terrible thing if he were to freeze to death right there in the hayloft; not only would he not be able to apologize to (Y/n) but his body would be found and sent away to be taken apart. Ulaz was surprised that he hadn't been found out yet since the remains of the RoBeast were in the field across the road, if he was lucky the government questioned whoever owned the field and not suspect him. He'd lost his blade somewhere along the way and assumed it was buried in the snow somewhere, he would need to find it before someone else did. The last time Ulaz went somewhere cold Thace had been with him and they were able to keep each other warm, he really missed his closest friend who was undoubtedly missing him. Until the next morning he would have to keep himself half awake in order to make sure he wouldn't die in his sleep, he wasn't ready for the afterlife yet.
