All was in chaos.

People dying all around, shouts of dying men and women filling the air.

Then all was still.

The enemy had retreated.

A blue-haired teenager peeked out from behind a building.

Bodies littered the streets. The survivors were coming out of buildings cautiously, as if the enemy would strike any second.

Naoki leaned on the wall and slid down to the ground. "How the hell did this happen?"

It was all he could think about.

Why did this war start?

Who started it?

Why are we still fighting?

Who is really in the wrong here?

The cause of the war was meaningless.

It was a petty argument. Over what it was has been forgotten.

The two sides could not make peace.

Everyone was wrong to fight.

But in this world, everything is black and white.

Right or wrong.

Win or lose.

Kill or be killed.

The war tore the nation in half, one fighting for the darkness, one for the light.

Which was which, no one knew.

"Jin... I hope you're okay."

Earlier that day, a group of soldiers were sent to attack an enemy town.

Naoki was terrified when he found out which town it was. He prayed throughout the whole ordeal that Jin was alright.

And the same went for Jin.

The enemy had just left the village.

It was a similar scenario to what happened in Naoki's town. Bodies on the streets, survivors creeping out of buildings.

Jin was terrified. He had his spirits to comfort him, but he was worried about Naoki.

"Jin." A black-haired female with fairly tan skin stood before him. She wore a red tank top under a white shirt that hung loosely off one shoulder and green jean shorts. Her hair was secured out of her face with a black piece of cloth tied around her head.

"Do you think Naoki's okay?" was the first thing that came out of his mouth when he saw his friend.

The light hit the female's blue and brown glasses, obscuring her eyes from view. "I don't know. This war has gone on for too long."

"Aizawa."

The two looked over to see the captain. The one and only Lui Shirasagijo.

Jin stood up from his spot on the ground. "Yes?"

"It's yes sir." Lui snapped. "We need you to fight."

Jin felt as if his world fell apart around him. "W-what?"

"You're coming on the next assault." With that, the flame-haired male left.

"Eleanor, I can't do this."

Eleanor put a hand on Jin's shoulder. "It'll be alright. If you do see Naoki, you don't need to attack him," she said, trying to comfort him. "You'll be glad to see him, won't you? That means he's alive."

"R-right."

Right now, Jin needed all 323 of his guardian spirits.

"Oh god, not again." Naoki turned on a dime and sped back to the town. He had just seen the enemy approaching.

"Naoki, what happened?" Valt asked.

"They're here again." The teen ran for cover as a shout was heard.

"Attack!"

The air was suddenly filled with the sound of metal impacts and screams of injured soldiers and civilians.

Jin has his sword pointed down at a boy no older than he.

He knew what had to be done, but couldn't bring himself to do it.

He had to listen to the spirits.

Jin put his sword down. "Are you Daina?"

The boy nodded before running for safety.

Naoki grabbed a metal stick as footsteps approached his hiding spot. When the person was right around the corner, he jumped out, prepared to swing, only to find a sword held to his neck.

Jin stared at the male in front of him before letting the sword fall to the ground with a clatter. "Naoki."

Naoki dropped the stick and hugged the shorter male. "Jin, thank god you're alright."

The black-haired male stared up at the blue-haired male tiredly. "Why are we still fighting this war?"

"I don't know, Ghost Boy. I don't know."

"I want to run away."

"What?" Naoki put his hands on Jin's shoulders. "Jin, you know what will happen."

"I don't care. Me and Eleanor are both sick of this."

"Eleanor and I," Naoki corrected.

"Yeah yeah. But meet me at our usual spot at midnight tomorrow, and bring Daina."

"Wh-" Naoki didn't even have time to finish one word as Jin ran out of the alleyway, back to his town.

•~•~•~•~•

"Jin, are you alright?" Eleanor immediately began checking Jin for injuries.

"I'm fine."

Eleanor sighed in relief. "That's good. And what about Daina?"

"He's alive."

"Oh, thank Olympus."

Jin looked at Eleanor in confusion. "Are you reading Percy Jackson again?"

"Maybe..."

Jin looked around before pulling Eleanor into a less crowded part of the street. "We're running away tomorrow. I'll come get you at midnight."

Eleanor nodded. "We really need to be careful." She headed in the direction of her house. "See ya tomorrow."

•~•~•~•~•

Jin paced back and forth nervously until Eleanor's window opened and she climbed out. "Ready?"

"Let's go." Jin lead her to a dense part of the woods.

"Uhh, why are we here?"

Jin pushed aside a curtain of ivy. "They're meeting us here."

Behind the ivy was a moonlit clearing. The flowers reflected the moonlight, making them seemingly glow.

Eleanor knelt down and brushed her fingers on the petal of one of the flowers. "This is beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you."

The two turned around to see Daina and Naoki standing there.

Eleanor immediately stood up and ran towards Daina, embracing him tightly.

"Guys, where should we go? We obviously can't stay here."

Eleanor sat down. "We can stay for the night and think in the morning."

"I agree," Daina said.

"Can't argue with that." Jin laid down on a soft patch of grass and fell asleep.

"We're on the run..." Eleanor murmured.

•~•~•~•~•

"This way!"

"There's tracks over here!"

Jin woke with a start. Footsteps were approaching.

Naoki was already shaking Eleanor and Daina awake.

"We need to go." Jin saw the ivy shift slightly. "Now!" He ran  to the other end of the clearing, the other three following behind.

"There!" A small group of people ran after them.

"Guys, run faster!" Eleanor grabbed Daina and Jin's hands before speeding up to run near Naoki.

•~•~•~•~•

"Think we lost them?" Jin asked. The four had taken shelter in a tall tree and were sitting about halfway up the tree, dense leaves obscuring their view.

"Hopefully."

"Where'd they go?"

"This way!"

Eleanor put an finger to he lips before moving some leaves.

The group was running in the other direction.

Naoki sighed in relief. "So where will you two go?" He asked, referring to Eleanor and Daina.

"We want to try and find neutral territory. Then we can be safe."

"Alright. Jin and I are going to try and find a way to stop the war."

"Then let us help," Daina said. "It'll be a while before we reach a neutral area, but if we stop the war we don't need to run."

"We'll do this together," Naoki said, linking his hand with Jin's.

"We either succeed, or die trying," Eleanor said. "Now let's go stop a war."
