Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Battle

Hiro glanced at you. "Nice pajamas," he added. You stared down at your baggy (F/C) shirt and pajama pants. The pants were (Favorite Cartoon) themed.

You glared at him. "Just let me get ready."

In less than five minutes, you were suited up, with a tight black shirt underneath. You pulled on your sneakers and raced back to the window. "Where's everyone else?"

"They said they would meet us there." Tadashi pulled you onto Baymax.

"Where is Callaghan, exactly?"

Hiro started up Baymax. "He's at this warehouse right near the bridge." Baymax shot into the air and you screamed.

"Whoa, calm down," Tadashi steadied you.

"Well, the fact I could fall off is-"

"I won't let you fall," Tadashi interrupted. "I promise."

Baymax landed near the warehouse. Everyone else was already there.

Gogo stared at the warehouse. "You sure he's in there?"

Hiro nodded. "Now, let's go. We're wasting time."

"We're about to die!" Wasabi cried. "We could at least come up with some sort of plan." He switched his lasers on. "Besides, I don't want to waste this perfectly good suit."

Hiro sighed. "Just don't split up. Let's go already."

Hiro confidently led the way. You were extremely scared. The man who was trying to kill you was in the warehouse, right that moment. He could jump out and slash your throat open at any second.

"Calm down," Tadashi whispered. You nodded tersely.

The team passed by a pile of old cardboard boxes. Fred accidentally brushed one off the pile, and it landed on the floor loudly. Everyone immediately lashed out, flinging discs and burning things and wrecking everything at once.

"False alarm!" Hiro called. Everyone stopped, embarrassed.

"Oh, what a surprise," a voice called out. "I see my boy Hiro has spilled the beans."

Your heart stopped and you were frozen with fear. Everyone turned to see Callaghan, standing on a beam, high off the ground.

"Go!" Hiro screamed, and everyone attacked. You let out some rope and it wrapped around a beam. You zipped yourself up, and you landed on the narrow plank of wood.

"(Y/N)! What are you doing?" Hiro called.

You ignored him, and began running across the web of planks towards the man in the mask.

"(Y/N)! Stop!" Tadashi called.

"(Y/N)," Callaghan said smoothly, turning around. "Such a pleasure to see you." He watched as you approached him. Suddenly, he lashed out. "Too bad I'm going to kill you!"

You were ready. You leaped over him and landed delicately behind him, then kicked him in the back.

Callaghan reared up and swung a kick at you. It pushed you off the beam, but you caught yourself dangling fifty feet off the ground. You gripped the beam with your trembling fingers. Don't let go, you willed yourself.

You inched away from Callaghan as he tried to step on your fingers. Your fingers dodged his heavy boots. The professor finally was able to step on your left hand, and immediately you plummeted downwards.

You prepared yourself for the landing, but then you realized you weren't falling anymore. Your eyes opened to see Tadashi, grinning at you. "You have fallen," he murmured.

"You think?" you replied as Tadashi flew Baymax downwards. You clambered off the robot and watched Honey Lemon and Gogo fling weapons from the distance, while Wasabi and Fred attacked up close. Callaghan wasn't affected at all. He dodged as Fred fired at him, so Fred just burned a hole into the roof.

Callaghan didn't hesitate. He clambered through the hole and disappeared.

"He's leaving!" Wasabi shrieked.

Callaghan was standing on a bridge pillar, staring out over the San Fransokyo Bay. He was hundreds of feet above the ground.

"How did he get up there?" you murmured.

Hiro shook his head. "I don't know. But that doesn't matter right now. Baymax, come on! Honey, Gogo, Fred, Wasabi, distract the crowd. We'll get up there." He pulled you and Tadashi onto the robot, and immediately you shot upwards. Hiro and Baymax shot back down to the group once you and Tadashi were on the pillar.

The professor watched you land on the pillar near him. Then, without warning, he whipped out a gun and pointed it directly at you. Your heart stopped. This was it.

"No!" Tadashi stepped in front of you. "Stop!"

Callaghan laughed. "Who are you to tell me what to do?"

"Why are you doing this?" you whispered, your throat dry.

"You father is a millionaire, (Y/N)." Callaghan lowered the gun. "I plan on taking his money and company. I'll be rich!"

"You . . . " You stepped out from behind Tadashi. "You psychopath! You'll never take his company!" Your hands balled into fists, ready to fight.

"But I can take you. And once I do, he'll be so distracted with your death I'll swoop in and take the company," Callaghan sneered.

Rage boiled through you. Even though your dad wasn't very close to you, you knew he cared for you. Even if he didn't show it. "You'll never take my family!" you screamed, and pushed Callaghan off the pillar. He caught himself, dangling over the edge. The dark water below rippled and churned.

You were just about to push him off when Callaghan grinned evilly. "I already did. Don't you know the real reason your mother died?"

You stopped immediately. "You killed my mother?" you whispered. The world beneath you tilted.

Callaghan laughed. "Of course I did. I hope killing you and your father will be just as easy." He took advantage of the fact you were shocked, and pulled himself up. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at you, who had fallen to your knees in horror.

"No!" Tadashi screamed, and jumped in front of you. He shoved Callaghan all the way off, but a moment before he did, the professor pulled the trigger.

You watched numbly as the evil man fell down the the bay below. A distant splash was heard.

Then you saw Tadashi, who was bent over in pain. No, you thought. You ran over to him. "Tadashi!" You rolled him over so you held him protectively. A trail of blood traced its way out of the corner of his mouth.

Tadashi looked up at you. "I'm sorry," he whispered. He reached up feebly and pressed the button on the side of his helmet, and the clear protector popped up.

Before you knew it, tears streamed out of your eyes. "Why did you do that, Tadashi?" you sobbed. "You idiot!"

"I had to," Tadashi replied softly. "I'm sorry," he repeated. He reached up and held one side of your face with a cold hand.

You were too busy crying to answer.

"I saved your life," he continued quietly. "For me, that's the best way to die."

"There is no 'best way' to die, Tadashi," you said between sobs. "You could have lived! I could have died. I have no purpose in this stupid world."

"Yes, you do," Tadashi insisted. "Be happy. For me. Okay?" He kissed your forehead softly. "I love you, (Y/N)."

You swallowed down the lump in your throat as Tadashi fell silent. The lights of San Fransokyo twinkled, and the dark waters of the bay crashed down below. The two of you were hundreds of feet above the water.

"I love you, Tadashi."

Wow.

That was intense.
