Sports Festival 2/2
As a result of my injuries, I wasn't allowed to participate any more. Eijiro told me after the second contest that he had been on Bakugou's team and they took second place. I congratulated him and we talked for a while longer before he was called up for his first match. Listening to the sounds echoing from the arena, I passed the time by making tiny illusions, just enough to give me something to do. After a while, Recovery Girl noticed and scolded me for wasting my energy. A few minutes later Eijiro and Tetsu were wheeled in, both unconscious.
"What happened?" I ask Denki. He was walking along with the robots for some reason, maybe to make sure they got here okay.
"They fought eachother. They were so evenly matched and used the same attacks, they both wiped eachother out," he says, taking a seat beside my bed, "My match is next. Supposed to be against a girl with vines for hair. How are you doing?"
"I'm feeling better. Not in agony every time I move it anymore," I reply, smiling at him. He gently smiles back, then reaches over and ruffles my hair.
"I'll see you soon, okay? We can celebrate my victory together!" he says enthusiastically, then walks out of the room before I can respond. Smiling to myself, I watch as Recovery Girl lifts the boys into the beds on either side of me.
"What happens when two people tie?" I ask her when she's done.
"Usually they hold a simple competition, like arm wrestling. Honestly, I can't believe these boys," she says, clicking her tongue as she wraps them in bandages. I chuckle, sinking further into the bed. Closing my eyes, I quickly fall into a restless sleep.
~ Time Skip (Half an hour) ~
"Shut up, you'll wake her up!"
"That's the point, idiot!"
"She needs rest, dumbass!"
"Well I'm bored! I want someone to talk to who isn't a complete asshole!"
Groggily opening my eyes, I wince at the bright lights above me.
"(Y/N)?" a voice on my left asks, and I feel someone place their hand on the bed next to me.
"What?" I ask, shielding my eyes from the fluorescent light. In the corners of my vision I can see Tetsu and Eijiro leaning over me.
"See? You woke her up!" Eijiro cries, hitting the back of Tetsu's head.
"Ow! Dude, that hurt!" he says, rubbing the back of his head.
"Good!" Eijiro replies.
"Shut up..." I moan, trying to roll over and sleep again, but my arm starts flaring up in pain. Now moaning in pain, Recovery Girl walks over, shooing the boys away.
"Let her rest. If you're well enough to be arguing, go do your tie breaker," she says, using a stool to look at me properly. The boys hang their heads and leave the room, muttering to themselves.
"Tell me who wins!" I call after them. Eijiro raises a hand and waves at me without bothering to turn around. They walk out of sight and I sigh.
"You three seem really close. Are they friends of yours?" Recovery Girl asks, stepping off the stool and turning away.
"We only met Tetsu - the steel guy - today, but me and Eijiro are... dating," I say quietly, still very self conscious and nervous about the word. Recovery Girl smiles.
"You look like a good match. Anyway, you can go watch the tournament again. Do you know the way up?" she asks, and once my blushing face had calmed down enough I nodded.
"I think so. Down the corridor, up the stairs, and keep going until I reach a door that says 1-A, right?"
"Yes, very good. Off you go," she says, waving me out the door. My arm was in a cast, held in a sling. Starting off down the corridor, I find my way to the section my class was given. Opening the door, no one notices me at first. As I was about to sit away from them, at the back where I could still see the arena, Denki looks behind him and waves me over. I walk down to him, my heart fluttering nervously. There was a free seat next to him, but Bakugou was sitting on the other side. Swallowing my nerves, I take the seat and watch the match. It was currently Tetsu and Eijiro arm wrestling. They seemed to be at a standstill, but just as the match was about to end a large crack appeared in Tetsu's fist, forcing his hand down.
"Kirishima wins!!" Midnight calls. Tetsu falls backwards, deactivating his Quirk. Eijiro holds out his hand to help him up and they look eachother in the eye, and I swear to god in that second they became best friends. They split and made their way back to their classes. A few seconds after Eijiro left my vision, Denki draped his arm around my shoulders. I tensed up immediately, my nerves screaming.
"What are you doing?" I ask slowly, trying not to show how uncomfortable I am. Bakugou was watching us from the corner of his eye, pretending not to notice.
"Could you come with me for a minute?" he asks, staring at my face. I shift a bit in my seat.
"S-Sure, just... let go of me," I say as quietly as I can, but he hears anyway. He removes his arm and I relax a bit, though I still feel tense. I follow him through the door leading out of our area as he leads me around a few corners. I press my back to the wall and he stands against the opposite one, his hands in his pockets.
"I gotta tell you something. When your arm was broken, I saw you lying there under the robot and ran straight past you. And I feel really bad about that. But I also realised something," he starts, averting his gaze. A light red blush was creeping across his face. A cold feeling settled in my stomach.
"(Y/N), I like you. I have for a while, but I... I didn't have the courage to tell you, and I-"
he cuts himself off, looking for words that wouldn't come.
"Denki, I only like you as a friend. I'm sorry, I just don't feel that way about you," I say softly, staring at the ground. His face falls.
"Oh..."
My heart twitches in my chest and, even though I was reasoning in my head that it wasn't my fault, I still felt bad. Stepping forwards nervously, I place a hand on his shoulder. Without warning, he grabs my wrist and pulls me into him.
"HEY!!" I shout, clamping my hand over his mouth as he leaned forwards. We struggle for a few seconds before a second pair of arms rip me backwards, out of his grip, and reach over my shoulder. An explosion detonates in front of me and Denki is slammed against the wall from the force. The person behind me wrapped his arm around my chest protectively, still keeping his palm extended towards Denki's slumped figure. When he's sure he won't try to attack again,he removes his arm and stalks away. I turn to look at my savior, and choke in shock when I recognise the familiar fluff of ash blonde hair. Bakugou stomps out of sight, his hands stuffed deep into his pockets.
"What the shit just happened," I ask myself, glancing worriedly at Denki. He was unconscious. Cursing my kind heart, I grab his wrist with my good arm and start dragging him along the floor towards Recovery Girl's office. Dropping him at the door and giving it a knock, I explain what happened to her.
"While I admire your courage in bringing him here after what happened, take care of yourself more," she says, setting my injured arm back in place. During the struggle, I had bumped it a few times. Thanking her, I walk back to my class group. As soon as I open the door, Eijiro jumps up and hugs me, carefully avoiding my injured arm.
"Eijiro, I'm fine," I say, patting his shoulder. He doesn't let go for a whole minute. When he finally steps backwards, holding my shoulders, and staring into my eyes, I only notice then that he had tears in his eyes.
"Eijiro..." I say quietly, reaching up with my good hand and stroking his cheek lightly. He moves his hands from my shoulders to my cheeks, leaning forwards and closing his eyes. My heart flutters nervously and just as I remember we're not alone, his lips meet mine. I close my eyes, kissing him back, and we separate after a few seconds, our faces burning.
"WHY DO YOU GUYS GET ALL THE CUTE GIRLS?!" Mineta screeches, making me jump. I place my hand over my face, trying to hide the massive blush that was creeping across it. Someone walks up to me and drapes their arm around my shoulders in a playful manner.
"So, (Y/N), when did you two start dating~" Sero asks, grinning. I shuffle away from him, trying to escape his grip.
"A-A few weeks ago," I stutter, trying to remember exactly when we started. It was in the hospital room, right? After the Villain attack in the mall?
Bakugou's name is called for the last match, against Todoroki. As he passes us, he looks at me like he wants to drag me out of the crowd pressing around me and asking questions. The expression confuses me. Eventually, the others return to their seats to watch the match, leaving only me and Eijiro. He grabs my hand, leading me down to the seats and sitting next to me. The match plays out in front of us, starting with Bakugou being trapped within a giant wave of ice.
"That was the attack he used on me when I was fighting him, just not as large," Sero tells me, pointing. Dimly, I remember a massive tremor flowing through the building while I was half asleep.
"I'm kinda sad I missed that," I say, watching the match closely. Just as it seemed one of them was about to win, the tables flipped. At the end, Bakugou used his Quirk to create a tunnel of smoke, hurtling through the air and spinning rapidly. He was in the tunnel, aiming directly at Todoroki. Todoroki had his flame side activated, but something in his expression changed at the last second and they disappeared. Bakugou slams into him full force, an enormous explosion washing over me. I screw my eyes shut against the gale he had kicked up, shielding my face with my good arm and locking my legs on the seat so I'm not blown away. When the smoke clears, I see Todoroki unconscious, blown against the wall, limply lying on a pile of ice.
"Holy shit..." I whisper, staring at Bakugou as he slowly gets to his feet.
~ Time Skip (Reward Ceremony) ~
I laugh as Bakugou struggles in the chains binding him to the pillar, trying to refuse the gold metal that All Might was giving him. Giving up and sticking the ribbon in his mouth, All Might turns to the crowd and cheers. They cheer with him. The remaining hours of daylight pass quickly. After Recovery Girl made sure my arm was good enough for me to go home, I opened the door to my apartment and walked inside. Joy ran up to me, barking in delight.
"Hey, little girl. I almost forgot about you today!" I say, crouching down and patting her head. She wagged her tail, panting playfully, and I laughed.
"I'll get you some food and then I'm going to bed, alright?"
Pouring out the dog food into her bowl, I refill the water as well. Without even bothering to change my clothes or eat something, I fall into my bed and am asleep within seconds.
