Exit Stage Theft
Lindsey's POV
I was sitting at my locker with Carlotta with my notebook in my hand. I lost my songbook and I was no idea where it was. It was in my locker yesterday and when I opened it today it was gone.
The talent show was coming up and our band was performing at it, along with Max's band. All of us girls were trying to come up with lyrics for a new song and I have no inspiration what so ever. If I had my songbook then I could use one of those songs, but I can't find it anyway.
"You got anything?" I asked Carlotta who was also jotting down ideas in her notebook.
She showed me her notebook and instead of lyrics she drew a smiley face.
I let out a small sigh and closed my notebook. "I guess that's a no."
"Don't give up, Linds," Carlotta assured me. "We have time."
"It's not that, it's my songbook. Someone stole it and I have to find it." I told her. "Some of my most personal stories and lyrics are in that book."
"We'll find it. Kensyn is great at finding things and she will find it." Carlotta informed me.
"She knows how important it is to me," I replied.
"Oh no! My laptop is gone! I can't find it!" I heard Cherry cry out.
I stood up and Carlotta followed my actions.
"Uh, maybe you should retrace your steps?" Phoebe suggested. Max and his band come up to us.
"Good idea! Uh, before I was here I walked into the boy's bathroom by mistake." Cherry explained. "Sorry, Gideon."
"It's perfectly normal to go in there and cry in between classes," Gideon mentioned.
"You're the toilet cryer?" Carlotta gasped.
"You lost something too?" I asked Cherry who nodded. "I lost my songbook and can't find it anywhere."
"Don't you usually keep it at home?" Phoebe asked me.
"Yes, but I brought it so we can practice some songs today."
Cherry suddenly gasped. "I remember! I put my computer in my bag just before the assembly."
"Someone could've stolen them there. I know a kid who got his tablet stolen at the pep rally last week." Oyster informed us.
"Bummer," Max said.
"Yeah, I know, that's awful," Phoebe mentioned.
"No, the kid's name is Bummer Calaway." Max corrected.
"That's a bummer," I spoke and Carlotta giggled.
"C'mon guys, let's go rehearse," Max told his band. He kissed my cheek before he and his band walked away.
"Let's go find Kensyn and Zaria," I suggested to Carlotta. "Bye guys."
"Bye." Phoebe and Cherry told us before Carlotta and I walked away.
"Are you upset?" Carlotta asked me and I scoffed.
"No. Why would I be upset?"
"Because you're hands are white from squeezing so much." Carlotta notified me and I looked at my hands. They were clenched in fists and were a shade of white.
"Okay, maybe I'm upset," I admitted, calming down. Carlotta and I entered the auditorim to find Kensyn and Zaria on the stage. We were allowed to rehearse here for an hour every day. "But I'm fine."
"Don't lie, Lindsey. It doesn't look good on you." I heard Kensyn say from the stage and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not lying," I told her, lying straight through my teeth. "I mean it's not like some of my most personal thoughts and feelings are in that book. And it's not like if someone read those and told everyone then all my secrets would be out." I scoffed. "It's fine."
The threes girls awkwardly stood there until Carlotta let out a sigh of relief.
"That's good!"
I rolled my eyes and went over to my guitar and picked it up.
"Linds, we'll find it," Zaria assured me.
"Please let it go," I asked her, trying to keep my cool. "Let's just start practicing."
"Practice what? We don't have a song." Kensyn told me and I averted my eyes. "We need a song if we're gonna perform."
"I get it!" I exclaimed turning to the girls. They seemed surprised by my reaction. I let out a sigh and lowered my voice. "Let's just do a cover."
"That's boring," Carlotta whined.
"What else do you suggest we do?" I asked her, bitterly.
"Linds, calm down," Zaria told me.
"I am calm," I told her, moving away from her.
"You're squeezing your guitar like your life depends on it, Linds," Kensyn informed me.
I groaned and set my guitar down on its stand.
"Linds, talk to us." Zaria softly said. "What's bugging you?"
I shook my head, dismissively. "It's nothing."
"Stop lying," Kensyn demanded and I looked at the fierce girl. "Is this about the songbook or something else?"
I swallowed and stuffed my hands in my jacket pockets. "Um...it's about both."
The girls listened and I continued.
"That songbook is very special to me and all my thoughts and personal feelings are in that book. That involves my past life which I've never spoken about and I wasn't planning on sharing that to anyone except myself. My past it a dark and scary place that I want to keep hidden but with that book out there, it might get out and cause a lot of drama which I don't want."
I bit my lip and wiped the tears that had escaped my eyes.
Zaria was the first to react and she didn't speak she came up and hugged me. I didn't hug back at first but I loosely hugged back moments later.
"Linds, we will find that songbook." Kensyn declared. "And I will murder the person that stole it."
I chuckled and she gave me a sincere smile in return.
Carlotta joined us and hugged me tightly.
I hated when I got emotional when I was younger but now I'm fine with it. Crying is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of being human and having feelings. I'm human.
I cleared my throat and pulled away from the hug.
"Alright, let's just do a cover I guess," I suggested and I saw Carlotta mentally groan.
"Which one?" Zaria asked.
"Skyscraper but no instruments just vocals," I explained. "It will make it seem more real that way."
The girls seemed to like my idea and smiled.
"I like the way you think, Earnest." Kensyn praised, winking.
"Let's get to work, ladies." I declared.
——
The next day, I was with my band at school. We just finished rehearsal and we have perfected our cover of 'Skyscraper.' It sounded amazing and I know that people will love it.
We walked down the stairs of the school but we stopped when we saw Max and his band talking, it seemed like arguing.
"-Guys, you can't be buying me stuff." Max protested, taking a bag from Oyster.
"Why? You're our friend." Gideon asked.
"Bestest Friendsens!" Wolfgang beamed and went to hug Max but he backed away.
"No! No hugs." Max denied. "And we not 'Bestest Friendsens.' We're just a... band."
I titled my head in confusion and glanced at the girls. They were bewildered by Max's behavior as well.
"Ouchen." Wolfgang pouted with his hand on his heart.
Okay, seeing Wolfgang sad is heartbreaking.
"Just a band?" Gideon asked.
"What are you talking about man? We're all friends." Oyster mentioned. "And you started the gift giving when you made us all do scrapbooks."
The three boys lifted up their scrapbooks.
"Give me those!" Max scoffed and snatched the books from them. "Max Thunderman doesn't have friends... and now he doesn't have a band. I'm out."
Max threw the scrapbooks on the ground and stormed off.
"What about the talent show?" Oyster called and looked at Wolfgang and Gideon. "What just happened?"
The girls and I went over to the bandless boys.
"I don't know, but I'll be in the bathroom." Gideon ran into the bathroom.
Oyster noticed us. "Girls, do you know what just happened?"
"Beats me." Kensyn shrugged.
"I'll go find out." I declared and caught up to Max.
"Max," I said and he turned to me with an annoyed expression.
"What- Oh Lindsey, I-"
"Max, why did you leave the band?" I asked him and he averted his eyes from me in an almost irritated way.
"Because I don't need friends." He bitterly told me and let out a scoff. "And I also don't need a girlfriend."
My face dropped and I felt my head sunk.
"Max, what are you saying?"
"We're done." He snapped before walking away from me.
I froze and watched Max walk away.
I heard footsteps come up behind me but I was in to much shock to move.
"Linds, what happened?"
It was Zaria
"Max just dumped me."
"He what?!" Kensyn exclaimed with anger. "I'm gonna murder that boy-"
I regained movement and held her back.
"No, don't." I stopped her and sighed. "This isn't the Max I know. Something is going on."
"Am I still aloud to hurt him?" Kensyn asked me and I rolled my eyes.
----
The next day the girls and I were in the auditorium rehearsing for the talent show tonight. I wasn't really speaking to anyone because I was heartbroken. I really like Max and he just dumped me. I know something is up with him but I'm devastated.
I didn't bother speaking to Phoebe or Cherry about this because they will berate Max and I didn't want any drama involved in this. Phoebe would be livid if she found out.
Oyster and his band were also on stage but since we didn't have any instruments we could share it.
I was sitting on the edge of the stage reading the song I had just written in my notebook. My songbook is still gone.
Two of the most important things in my life are gone. Great.
"Lindsey..."
I looked up and saw Zaria squatting down next to me. I stayed quiet and felt my throat get tight.
"Please speak to us. I know this breakup was tough."
"I'm not upset." I bluntly told her, feeling tears form in my eyes, I blinked them away.
"Lindsey, look at me." It was Carlotta. I shut my eyes in an attempt to get rid of my tears but they escaped.
I sniffled and let out a small cry.
Zaria and Carlotta wrapped me in their arms and I silently cried.
"Why did he leave me? What did I do?" I mumbled.
"What's wrong with her?" I heard Oyster whisper.
"Max," Kensyn replied.
"Here, why don't we go get some ice cream?" Zaria suggested, pulling away. I opened my eyes and wiped them.
"I guess." I sighed before I stood up. Oyster came up to me and hugged me before the rest of us walked off the stage. I noticed Gideon was missing.
Once we walked out, I spotted Gideon and a very familiar face walking together.
I slowly backed away from the group and followed them. She happened to turn her face and I gasped.
It was Lexi.
If Lexi is here then that means Koh is as well.
It all makes sense. They tried to sabotage my relationship with Max and I'm pretty sure they stole my songbook and Cherry's laptop.
I really hate them.
I slowly followed the both of them and saw Phoebe nearby.
'Phoebe, look behind you'
Her head shot up and she looked in my direction.
I waved her over and she sneakily came up to me.
"Lindsey, I'm so glad-" She stopped when she noticed my tear stained face she looked concerned. "What happened? Are you okay?"
I waved her off. "Not the time. Where are Gideon and Lexi going?"
"I don't know but- Wait, how do you know her name?"
"Long story," I told her and she didn't seem convinced but let it go. "Let's find out what they are doing."
Phoebe and I devised a plan. I would turn us both invisible so we both could go back here since I'm allowed back here and she isn't.
Once we reached the stage, I turned us visible. Lexi was gone.
We saw Max on the floor and I groaned.
"Max? What are you doing here? And where is that girl we were following?" Phoebe asked Max, who stood up.
"Lexi ran out with the other two and all the band's stuff they stole," Max informed us.
"Knew it," I mumbled.
"So they are the bandits?!" Phoebe exclaimed. "Wait? Why do you know them?" She gasped. "Are you helping them?" She gasped again. "Are you one of them?!"
"No! I don't know." He groaned. "Kinda."
"So, are they the reason you dumped me?" I blurted out and Max looked at me.
Phoebe gasped again. "You what?!"
"No! I don't know." He groaned. "Maybe."
"So, that's why you were crying?" Phoebe asked and I shrugged.
"Max, why would you do this to your own 'friends?'" I asked him.
"I tried to stop them! After I gave them the idea, got them backstage, distracted Gideon, loaded all their equipment- what have I done?" Max asked himself with disbelief.
"You messed up!" I scolded. "Just like you messed up our 'relationship.'
"Linds and I are gonna go find those girls." Phoebe ran out the back door and I was about to follow her.
"Linds wait!" Max stopped me, grabbing my arm. "Talk to me."
"Later Max, I have to stop Koh, Lexi, and that other girl."
"Lindsey, please-Wait, how do you know them?" He asked me and I glanced at him. "Do you know them?"
He seemed genuinely interested and I shook my head.
"I don't, I just know their names," I muttered and attempted to leave but Max stopped me.
"Linds, listen, I didn't mean to break up with you. I wasn't thinking straight. I thought having friends made me not able to be villain material but I realized that I need friends and I need you. I need you more than anything." Max rambled and I turned to him. He was genuine and sincere. "I really like you and I'm so sorry."
I felt myself smile but it faded quickly.
"Let's talk about this later. We need to catch those stupid girls." I told him and Max didn't argue and we raced out the door.
Both of us caught up with Phoebe and we walked into the storage closet. Max flicked the lights on and the girls weren't here.
"What? I don't get it? The tracks led here, I'm sure of it." Phoebe spoke as we looked around the storage closet.
"Look for anything unusual. In an evil lair, nothing is as it seems." Max advised us.
"Ha, what do you think this dead possum really is?" Phoebe chuckled, picking up a stuff dead possum.
I sniffed it and gagged. "Dead possum."
"Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew!" Phoebe freaked and tossed the possum to the side.
Max spotted a computer and went up to it. "Check this out. This looks like an old computer but I bet if I just push-"
Max typed on the keyboard and the computer turned on and a wall opened up to reveal a secret area with the missing or stolen items.
"You did it!" Phoebe and I beamed. I spotted my songbook and Cherry's laptop.
"My songbook." I jogged over to the stuff and picked up the precious book that I loved.
"Cherry's laptop. And look at all this stuff." Phoebe scanned the wall of stolen items.
"You mean look at all of our stuff?"
Koh, Lexi, and the blonde chick walked in.
"We're taking you, bandits, down." Phoebe declared.
Koh spotted me and smirked at the sight of me.
I glared at her and felt my blood boil.
"First, we're taking you up." Max went to attack but Phoebe and I stopped him. They may know my powers but not the twins.
"Max, we can't use our powers and risk us being exposed. We have to fight fair." Phoebe warned him.
Koh came up to me and shoved me to the ground and Lexi hit Max with a chair and he tumbled to the floor.
"But they won't." I protested.
I got onto my feet and Koh let out a battle cry and sprinted towards Phoebe who threw her into a pile of boxes.
"You're mine, pretty boy." Lexi glared and sprinted towards Max but I kicked her into the chalkboard and Max moved out of the way.
The blonde chick grabbed a shark head on a stick and pointed it at us.
"Okay, this is the weirdest fight I've ever been in," Phoebe mentioned.
"Ditto." I agreed.
Phoebe and blondie began to fight and I turned to Koh was had just recovered from being thrown. Max dealt with Lexi.
"Nice to see you again, Valentine. I hope you enjoyed my surprise." She giggled, sinisterly.
"I hope you enjoy a face full of my fist." I threatened and started to fight her.
We began to fight. She threw a punch at me but I dodged it, she threw another but this time I grabbed it in my hand. I twisted it and kicked her in the gut and she groaned. She didn't back down and kicked my legs out from under me and I landed on my back. It didn't phase me and I kicked up onto my feet.
I kicked Koh in the chest and she landed towards the desk with the computer on it. Lexi got shoved towards her and the blonde chick got thrown into them and they tumbled to the ground.
"So, these are your new friends, huh?" I asked Max who a smug smile.
"No." He shooked his head. "I don't know, Kind of."
I rolled my eyes, smiling at him. Koh, Lexi, and the blonde chick seemed pretty dazed and out of it. Phoebe went over to grab Max's band's epuipment and Max pulled me away.
"Hey, Lindsey." I turned to Max. "Can you forgive me?"
"Do you regret what you did?" I asked him.
"More than anything." He told me with pleading eyes and grabbed my hands. "Will you please take me back?"
"I guess." I sighed and he smiled at me. "But, if this happens again, Kensyn will murder you."
"Don't worry, I won't do it again." He assured me with an adorable smile.
Max leaned down and connected our lips. I smiled happily as we pulled away moments later and Max gave me a lovingly smile in return.
"Yo, lovebirds! I could use some help here," Phoebe called and we both looked at Phoebe.
I giggled and we went over to her to help her load up a cart with the instruments.
Once we were done Max and Phoebe rolled the cart out.
I stayed behind and went over to Koh and Lexi.
"Next time you mess with my boyfriend, I won't go so easy on you," I warned before I left the storage closet.
The twins and I went backstage to find Oyster, Gideon, Wolfgang, Cherry, Kensyn, Zaria, and Carlotta.
Once they saw us, they got excited.
"Dude, sweetious! Our stuff! We thought it was stolen." Oyster smiled.
"It was but, Max, Linds, and I got it back," Phoebe told them.
"You!" Kensyn glared at Max whose eyes went wide. "You broke Lindsey's heart! Now I will break-"
"Woah! Kens, we made up!" I jumped in, defending my boyfriend. "He apologized and we're cool."
"I hope so because next time I will end you." She threatened to a scared Max.
"She scares me," Max whispered and I giggled quietly.
Max sighed. "Anyway, I had to do something for bailing on you guys and for breaking Lindsey's heart." Max stepped forward to his band. "Look, I'm sorry. You guys are my friends and I threw it away. I don't deserve you or this strap."
Max pulled out a brand new guitar strap and Oyster took it in his hands.
"Well, Wolfgang did stay up all night sewing you name on it," Pyster mentioned.
"Ehh, Wolfgang." Wolfgang protested.
"Don't be modest, Wolfgang. You're stitching is flawless." Oyster argued. "But since we can't return it, you can keep it!"
Oyster gave Max the strap back and he gladly took it.
"Why are we playing these games?" Gideon asked, almost readying to cry. "We want you back in the band Max!"
Max smiled. "Thanks, guys! Besten Friendsens!"
"Max is back!" Wolfgang cheered and they hugged.
"And I believe this belongs to you." I gave Cherry her laptop and she gasped.
"Oh my gosh! You did it!" Cherry exclaimed and the three of us hugged before she whispered. "I have my own private superheroes. Did you by any chance find my shark on a stick?"
The band that was on stage finished and the crowd applauded them.
"Up next is the Starlight Girls."
"That's us," I told the girls. "Let's do this."
"Good luck, babe." Max kissed my cheek. They all wished us luck before we walked onto the stage with microphones in our hands.
"I'm Lindsey."
"I'm Kensyn."
"I'm Zaria."
"And I'm Carlotta."
"And we'll be singing Skyscraper by Demi Lovato," I announced before I looked at the girls. "1, 2, 3."
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
(The cover is by a girl band named Cimorelli. It is absolutely amazing and I thought I should use it for there performance)
Carlotta:
Skies are crying, I am watching
Catching teardrops in my hands
Only silence, as it's ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There's nothing left of me?
I glanced behind and saw Max staring at me with a small smile.
Zaria; Lindsey, Carlotta, and Kensyn are harmonizing:
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper
Lindsey:
As the smoke clears, I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you, feel better
To watch me while I bleed?
All my windows still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet
"Her voice is stunning." I heard Max say and I blushed.
Kensyn; Lindsey, Carlotta, and Zaria are harmonizing:
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper
Zaria:
Go run, run, run
I'm gonna stay right here,
Watch you disappear
Yeah-oh, go run, run, run
Yeah, it's a long way down
But I am closer to the clouds up here
As I sang this next part, I immediately thought about Koh and Lexi. They've torn me apart and ruined me but I rose above them like a skyscraper.
Lindsey:
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper, oh-oh
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
All:
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper
(Like a skyscraper)
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper.
When we finished the crowd erupted into cheers and they flew to their feet. The girls and I hugged and I heard cheering from behind me and saw the boys, Phoebe, and Cherry cheering. Max gave me a smile and a wink.
Once our performance was finished, the boys and Phoebe and Cherry performed together. It was a magic act and a musical act all rolled into one. It was truly magical.

Everyone! Go check out dylan_obriens_wife Thunderman's story. It's called My Super Cutie and it's really good. The author hasn't updated it for a bit but they might at some point. She go give it a read if ya want. She doesn't know I'm doing this but I want to help her get more people to read it because it's very well written and deserves more attention.
Also, in the chapter, I bet you guys hated me for a bit but loved me at the end. I had a feeling that would happen haha. It was a small breakup that wouldn't last long because I couldn't go through with them being broken up for any longer :)
