Can't Spy Me Love

It's been a few days since I was reunited with my mother and little sister. Since then, I have been clean and haven't picked up my knife. Max is proud of me and told me if he sees me with a knife he will burn it with his heat breath.

So protective of me, but it shows he cares about me.

Right now, I was at Splatburger with Phoebe and Cherry.

"Uh, chicken wings, tots, onion rings, and splat!" Phoebe ordered and pressed the button on the tablet to order our food. We waited for the food to fall from the tub, but it made a weird noise and the three of us looked inside to see what was jamming it.

"Yep! We got a jam." Cherry says. "Should we get the tub sweeper?"

"Nope, it's being used by table five." I shake my head and motion over to the family who was using the sweeper to unclog their tube.

"Yeah, let's switch tables." Cherry suggests but a teenage boy our age came over.

"Maybe I can help?" He offers and Cherry smiles.

"Let's stay!"

The boy taps the tube a few times and before you know it our food splats onto table.

"Thanks." I smile at him.

"If you wanna thank me, let me buy you lunch sometime." He offers and I awkwardly shift in my seat.

"I'm taken." I tell him and his face falls.

"I'm not." Cherry smiles and winks. "And we haven't paid for this mess yet."

"Actually, we're kinda into paying for our own meals right now." Phoebe adds in.

"And their best friend. They also pay for their best friend." Cherry chimes in.

The boy nods with a sad smile. "It was nice talking to you."

I let out a small sigh as the boy leaves and both of the girls look at me. "What?"

"Recently, a lot of guys have been asking you out." Cherry tells me and I roll my eyes.

"Really? I haven't noticed." I tell her.

"Yeah, because all you can think about is Max." Phoebe tells me and I scoff.

"That's not true." I deny her with a small laugh and my phone buzzes.

"I bet it's Max." Phoebe says and I take out my phone.

"It's Max." I smile happily.

"It is Max." Cherry grins.

"He wants to talk to me. Gotta go, girls." I tell them. "See ya two later."

"But you didn't pay for your drink." Phoebe calls as I head out.

"I didn't finish it!" I call back as I walk out the doors.

"Lindsey!" I turn around and saw Max.

"Maxie!" I giggle and we hug tightly.

Ever since I've been reunited with my mother, I've been so happy lately and I'm so glad I'm back to my happy self.

"You texted me." I tell him and he kisses my check as we pull away. I noticed a can in his hands and I hang my head. "Let me guess you want me to-"

"Donate to the hover-board foundation?" He asks lifting up the can and giving me a irresistible smile.

"Max, honey, I've 'donated' five times already. You made my sister donate." I tell him and pat his cheek. "No more money from me."

He pouts at me. "But...it's for a good cause."

"I'm sorry, love." I apologize to him before kissing his cheek. "Is that all you wanted me for?"

He scoffs. "No, you make my day better. Stay with me and convince Phoebe to donate."

"No amount of persuasion will make your sister donate." I tell him and he rolls his eyes. "It's the truth."

"Worth a shot." He shrugs and looks at me. "I'll see you later, darling?"

"Always." I smile and he kisses my lips for a few seconds before we pull away. "I love you."

"I love you too."

He gives me a happy grin and I give him one before I turn around and head home.

Five Days Later

I was at school and I was sitting next to Cherry in the hall. Phoebe told me she met this insanely cute guy who had a lot in common with her, but she doesn't know his name or have his number. Now, she is on mission to find him.

"Linds, Cherry." Cherry and I turn to see Phoebe had sat down next to us. "Prepare to have your minds blown! BAM!"

Phoebe shows us two copies of the same book and I gasp in fake shock.

"Woah! Two books!" Cherry and I gasp.

"I don't get it." Cherry adds with confusion.

"Yeah. Help us out." I tell Phoebe.

"Check it out. This is my copy of 'The Yellow Bandana' and this is my crushes copy. Here." Phoebe hands Cherry and I her crushes copy while she opens her own. "I underlined this sentence. He underlined that sentence. Look, I put a star next to this part, he did too!"

"What's this?" I pointed to the weird stain on the book page.

"Uh..that's just a food stain." Phoebe tells us.

"You're both sloppy eaters?" Cherry smiles happily. "It's like you're soulmates!"

Phoebe grimes amusingly. "Well, none of that matters because it's been like five days since I've ran into him. Maybe I never will."

"Hey! What if you us your superpowers to freeze everyone in town, then dig through your lifeless bodies until you find him?" Cherry suggests and I raise my eyebrow at her.

"This is why you're not a superhero." I mention to the blonde before Phoebe got up to go to her locker and we followed her.

"What about your hero league tablets? Don't you two have some kind of a ' search for a bad guy' app?" Cherry asks and I scoff.

Yep. I threatened to use it on Max if he gets on my bad side.

"Yeah, but that can find anyone. It's for official Hero League business only and they call it 'Find a Feen' not 'Find a Cut Guy Who May or May not be Perfect for you." Phoebe jokes with a smile and opens her locker. "Look, if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. After school, I'm just gonna go to Splatburger and sit quietly and wait for faith to bring him back to me."

——

The following day I was at the Thunderman's house sitting on the couch with Phoebe. Jocelyn was here as well but she was doing ninja stuff with Max, Nora, and Billy. I'm unsure of why she is.

"Alert! Alert! Cherry approaching!"

Phoebe stood up to answer a door but she paused when she heard a grunt and thud outside the door.

Cherry tripped again.

"Alert! Alert! Cherry tripped on steps."

I was correct.

Phoebe and I both shared a look before we both approached the door and opened it to find Cherry laying on the ground in pain.

"I could've sworn there was a third step there." She grunts as she stands up to her feet.

"Don't worry you'll get it next time." I assure her as she walks in and I lean over to Phoebe in a hushed voice. "No, she won't."

Phoebe nods at this.

"So, what's the news with your mysterious crush? Did you two find him?" She asks.

"No, but I did use the 'Find a Feen' app to start tracking him down." Phoebe admits reluctantly.

"Oh, you devil you!" Cherry grins cheerfully.

I forget to mention that she started to use that app to track him down.

"Oh, you have no idea." Phoebe mutters. "So, once the system sends me his coordinates, I will pretend to run into him and do my flirty laugh." Phoebe does a cute and playful giggle. "And he will never escape me again."

"Alert! Alert! Incoming transmission from Super President Kickbutt!"

"Uh oh." I mumble.

"Phoebe, I see you've been using our 'Find a Feen' program." Kickbutt begins.

"How'd you know that?" Phoebe asks her.

Well, she's the president of the Hero League, I wonder how she would know.

"When someone of your skill level registers a dangerous criminal, the Hero League is always notified." Kickbutt informs her. "We can send a Strike Team."

Phoebe seemed speechless but managed to speak. "Strike Team? That seems awfully strikey."

"They are. A group of the best men and woman, guaranteed to find your dangerous criminal and take him out." Kickbutt continues on and I scoff quietly.

Phoebe and Kickbutt have different definitions of 'take him out' that's for sure.

"Don't you want him to take you out?" Cherry asks and we both look at her with wide eyes.

"What's the fruit girl talking about?" Kickbutt asks with confusion.

Phoebe began to laugh a little. "Actually, Super President, you are gonna laugh, there's actually something you should know about my dangerous criminal before you send in that Strike Team."

"Too late!"

The doors burst open and two people in black vests and pants walked in and from the side doors two more came in. A man came from the ceiling using a grappling hook and they all stood in position ready to fight.

Well, this is unfortunate, isn't it?

——

"I'm so proud of Phoebe! You're first big man hunt! Hope you get your guy." Hank expresses excitedly for his daughter as the strike team finished setting up their equipment in the house. Hank and Barbs were very happy and excited for Phoebe, but the only issue is she wants to take the boy out on a date, not actually take him out.

"Or not. Be fine if I didn't." She grins nervously.

"Hey Chloe! Ready to draw mommy and daddy?" We turned to see Barb smiling at Chloe, who was drawing at the counter.

"Nope! Strike team!" She chirps and I turned to Cherry and Phoebe. Hank and Barb rushed upstairs and we started to discuss the situation.

"Girls, I feel awful!" Phoebe admits and I scoff.

"You should." Phoebe glares at me and I grin at her. "Love you."

"Yeah, you really don't look that good." Cherry confesses, touching Phoebe's hair.

Phoebe pushes her hand away. "No, I mean all I wanted to do was track down a boy I like."

"Now, you have a whole strike team to do it for you!" Cherry beams, gesturing to huge team in front of us. "You have time to rest up and feel better."

Cherry's lucky she's pretty and nice, because that brain is not getting her anywhere in life.

"I'm not sick." Phoebe counters. "I need to put an end to this. I need to call Kickbutt."

"We got your guy." One of the strike team members announced and we went up to him. "We just spotted him buying a ticket for the 3:15 screening for the Maze Jumper 3."

I love those movies but I want to see it with Max and he isn't a fan of those movies. I'll find a way.

"O-M-Crazy! That's your favorite movie franchise!" Cherry exclaims.

It's like we found Phoebe's male version, this is unreal.

"Time to strike!" Another member pounded his fist into his hand, roughly.

"No, don't strike!" Phoebe stops them.

"Why not?" The leader asks.

"Well, I'll tell you why because....that's not her guy." I explain for Phoebe who nods eagerly beside me.

"But that's the description Phoebe logged into the program." He reasons. "Blonde hair, green eyes, soul of a poet."

My description for Max would be, beautiful brown eyes, brown hair, muscles that pop for days, and a smile that lights up a room. Okay, I'll stop.

"You forgot a smile that lights up a room." Phoebe sighs and turns to Cherry and I. "But uh...actually Cherry and Lindsey got a much better look at him."

"Well, we'll need to ask you two a few questions."

"You can ask them more than a few. You can ask a bunch, a load, a whole gaggle of questions. Right after we chat real quick, okay?" Phone rambles and pulls us away.

"Did you see that picture?" Phoebe asks us. "My guy's even cuter than I remembered and like Cherry said we have the same favorite movie franchise. He is on fire!"

"So, what's the plan?" I ask her.

"The movie's two hours long, which gives me enough time to change and go meet my crush while you two come up with some crazy description of someone who doesn't exist." Phoebe explains to us.

"Oh! Like Bigfoot!" Cherry smiles.

"No, Cherry, a human who doesn't exist." I tell her.

"Actually, my uncle is a Bigfoot hunter and he say-"

"Cherry!" Phoebe and I yell before Phoebe continues. "Just make him a boy, I need them off chasing some guy one of you dreamed up so I can go get the guy of my dreams."

"Got it."

"On it."

"Thank you." Phoebe smiles before running upstairs.

"Alright, Strikers! Here's what our man looked like, he had a-WOAH!" Cherry tripped and landed face first on the floor. She sits up and glares. "I could've sworn there was a step there."

I smile and roll my eyes playfully.

——

Time passed after we told the strike team what our guy looked like and it would be almost impossible for them to find him. Well, not impossible, but very difficult. We based it off one of colors drawings of a red ninja.

"We found your guy." The leader suddenly says and I look up from my phone.

"Cool."

"Oh good!"

Wait a second.

"Wait what?" Cherry and I stand up, alarmed.

"Uh, how could you? It wasn't even a real-" Cherry says nervously and I hit her arm making her wince. "Really good description."

"He's at Splatburger!" The leader announces." Strike Team! Strike!"

All the members put on sunglasses and left the house.

We stared at them with wide eyes.

"PHOEBE! PHOEBE!"

We saw Phoebe walk down with a Maze Jumper shirt on, and we went up to her.

"We have a problem." I tell her.

"What?" Phoebe groans. "I knew it. My Maze Jumper shirt is too casual to meet my crush. I'll go change."

Phoebe went to turn around and leave but she froze and turned back.

"Cherry, Lindsey. What happened to the Strike Team?" She asks, noticing the huge empty space.

"Well..." I began and Phoebe came back down. "This is why we 'PHOEBE! PHOEBED!' you."

"They went to Splatburger. Some how they found the guy we gave them." Cherry explains.

"What? But you guys made up the guy." Phoebe reasons.

"Yeah! We just described this drawing." Cherry picked up Chloe's drawing of red ninja.

"Is that Chloe's?" Phoebe asks and I nod.

"No! It's this artists named 'Chloe.' Cherry empathized the name and I shook my head.

"Cherry! That's how you spell Chloe!" I exclaims to Cherry. "How did you not know that?"

"Linds and I have to stop them!" Phoebe says and I follow her. "They're going after an innocent civilian...an oddly dressed civilian with two right feet."

I rose my eyebrow at the drawing noticing the two right feet.

"But what about your crush? If you don't go to the movie, you may never see him again." Cherry reasons.

"Right now, an innocent person's life is more important than a date." I tell Cherry and Phoebe sighs.

"Yeah, I have no choice this is all my fault." Phoebe says. "He better be worth saving."

Phoebe set down the drawing and we rushed off to Splatburger.

——

We got to Splatburger and we were about to go inside but we stopped when we saw the Gardner that was watering the plants. She looked exactly like Kickbutt, it was very strange.

"Excuse me?" I ask the woman. "Can we take your picture you look exactly like our boss?"

Phoebe and I chuckle.

"I am your boss, Phoebe and Lindsey." The woman says and my eyes grew. "I'm on a stakeout."

I scoff and Phoebe did too as she replied. "We knew that. We just didn't want to blow your cover."

"You just didn't want to be professional, whatevs." I roll my eyes.

"You are gonna witness my strike team take this joker down hard!" Kickbutt smirks. "He's gonna wish he was never born! Man I love my job."

Really, I couldn't tell.

The three of us peaked in the restaurant and I was able to spot the members of the team. They were in disguises and very well hidden from the untrained eye.

"You have to stop them!" Phoebe exclaims and sighs. "There's no dangerous criminal, there never was. I was just trying to track down a boy I liked."

"You turned Find A Feen into Find A Date?" Kickbutt asked Phoebe with shock.

"Actually, she called it Find A Cute Guy Who May Or May Not Be Perfect For You." I tell Kickbutt. "But I'm completely innocent in all of this."

Phoebe whacks my arms and I wince. "Owie..."

"Point is..I messed up, that person is totally innocent." Phoebe sighs.

"Strike Team! Unstrike!" Kickbutt says into her communicator.

I wasn't able to hear the reply but that didn't matter when I saw the biggest member attack the red ninja. Did I mention this was happening at a birthday party as well?

We watched through the glass doors and the ninja kicked the member but he did it move.

"This is my party, get your own gig!" The ninja glares.

His voice sounds familiar, where have I heard it before?

"A fight scene how fun!" A mom smiles. "Rip him in two!"

The ninja and the strike team member continue to fight and the ninja did pretty well with taking him down. I swear I've seen this ninja before.

"You're supposed to say burn." A little girl glares.

The strike team member rushed over and picked up the ninja.

"Does it really matter?!"

He threw the ninja onto the table and then picked up the ninja again. He pulled down his mask to reveal the one and only.

Max Thunderman.

"Max?!" Phoebe and I gasp.

"Strike Team. Finish him." I say into the communicator on Kickbutt's shirt.

"No, Strike Team. Stand down." Kickbutt announced. "False Alarm."

The member put Max back down and all the Strike Team Members walked out. Phoebe and I high fived the one who throttled Max. I walked inside while Phoebe talked to Kickbutt.

"Max." I say and the dazed and tired Max turns to me.

"Hey babe." He greets me and I saw a boy run by me with a can of money. "That's my money, Sweatervest!"

Max rushed to his feet and followed him out the door.

I think it's time I give Max the present he's been wanting for a while.

——

That night, I was at the Thundermans's house and my sister was upstairs with Billy and Nora. Max wasn't home yet but I had a surprise for him. I was downstairs with a present for Max and I think it will cheer him up.

I was sitting on Max's bed with his present in my hands and I heard the door open. I told Colosso to be quiet and he listened for once which is strange.

Once I saw Max, I smiled brightly but it faded when I saw all his injuries he had and how much pain he was in.

"Max." I say quietly and he jumped while yelping.

"Ah!" He almost tripped but he caught himself and I covered my mouth.

"I'm so sorry, love." I say to him and go up to help him

"It's okay." He groans and gives me a small smile. "You make me feel better."

I blush and he wraps his unsprained arm around me. "Here, sit down on your bed."

He sat down on the bed and noticed the present. "What's this?"

"Well, you have to open it to found out." I tell him and he tries to open it but he winced.

"It's kind of difficult to open." He says and I giggle.

"I'll open it for you." I tease and sit next to him. "Can you guess what it is?"

"Give me a hint." He begs and I gave him a look.

"Really?" I ask. "Okay. It's something you've been dying to get for a long time and..."

I trail off and began to open it.

I heard a large gasp when he spotted the black hoverboard on my lap.

"A hoverboard!" He giggles and I smile his reaction. "Babe! Are you serious right now?!"

"Yeah! I know how much you've been wanting one and I saved up enough move to get you one." I tell him and he was beyond excited. He's so cute.

"Lindsey. This is amazing." He tells me and takes the hoverboard out. "You're the best girlfriend ever!"

"I know." I giggle. "But don't ride it, I don't want you to get hurt more."

"Injuries heal." He scoffs and puts the hoverboard on for ground. "I'll be fine."

"Max." I complain as I saw him place his feet on the board. "Please be careful."

"Babe, stop worrying!" He chuckles and the hoverboard begins to go forward a bit. "See I'm fine-WOAH!"

I cringe when I saw him land on the floor and a loud groan came from him.

I stand up and walk toward him.

"See, you should've listened to your girlfriend." I tell him.

"Ow..."

——

Okay, I'm not dead. Just in case any of you were worried, I'm still here and I'm still writing. I'm finally on a break from college and dance so I had time to write my stories. Fair warning, starting in January I will be more busy because I am signed up for more classes. I'll try my best to continue writing with my schedule along with auditioning for America's Got Talent too. So, I'll see what happens and how it will work out.

I'm excited for the next book and you will get unexpected surprises in the third book. Lindsey isn't so innocent, ya know?
