Raven
Name: Raven "Rachel" Roth
Franchise: Teen Titans/DC comics
Gender: Female
Species: human-demon hybrid
Ah, Raven. My favorite character of them all. Never such a person ever touch me like Raven here. I understand her situation in life, it's not too unlike my own. Especially with my life right now. How tortured a soul she has. Things might not be the same for you if you read this page. This is rather brave of me to talk about Raven, but she's been through Hell nearly all her life, and with me, so I can at least let more people aware of her situation in life.
Raven(picture above) is a girl of rather horrible origins. Her father Trigon, a world conquering demon, and her mother Arella Roth, who was depressed to begin with and came close to committing suicide by sleeping pills after finding out she was pregnant with Raven. Though throughout DC comics the story, even as early on as this, changes somewhat depending where you look. This first part of the story is based on the original comic book version of the story. Others say that Raven's mother was in the occult and met Trigon through that. Arella somehow got to the world of Azeroth, place of peace, tranquility, and magic arts. Raven was born here. While Raven was growing up, she didn't actually grow up with her mother per-say, she grew up with a guardian so her demon powers can be kept in check, though Arella was sure to check on Raven so as to be close to her as a mother should.
No, wait, that's a lie. Raven wasn't allowed to stay with her mother even as a newborn baby, and Arella rarely saw Raven after that at all. Apparently the people of Azeroth felt Arella would get in the way of teaching Raven to surpress her emotions, for they were the key to her demon powers.
It wasn't till Raven was around 11 years old when she was with her mother full-time, but the reason why this decision was made was just as tragic as Raven's birth. Her guardian, the leader of Azeroth whose name I can't remember, attempted to get rid of Raven due to her demon powers within, but they ended up getting destroyed in the process. Truth be told, how that happened is actually quite something worth noting. Though Raven doesn't remember it, Trigon himself sensed hos daughter was in danger, and before her guardian could throw her into another dimension, Trigon appeared and destroyed him, technically saving his daughter, an act Trigon is definitely not known for. Arella was then finally allowed, by Trigon himself actually, to raise Raven as her child.
Things only get worse from there. According to the Teen Titans animated series from 2003, Raven was only 14 years old when she was taken from Azeroth by none other than Trigon. Again the story varies here, saying that Raven accidentally brought Trigon to Azeroth, though most say Trigon came on his own terms. What happened to Azeroth after this also varies, from being destroyed during or after Raven's kidnapping to long after Raven managed to escape Trigon. Most accounts say Raven trapped her father in his own hellish realm through some kind of magic. The comic book version says that, after she escaped, she went to the the Justice League for help, but Zatanna, a very powerful magician girl, sensed Raven's dark powers and refused to help. The animated series version says she went straight to Earth, eventually meeting the other Titans. The comic book version says that it was Raven that brought the Titans back together after they had separated some time before, this time recruiting the likes of Cyborg and Starfire. In the animated version, this is somewhat true, as Raven convinced Robin and the others to cease attacking Starfire, who had just escaped from the Citadel and had been trying to break her handcuffs and, though she was hesitant due to her demon heritage, assisted them to defend Earth from the Citadel, and later joined them as a Teen Titan.
That's where everything starts branching out in separate directions depending where you look. The villians, the adventures, and even the Titan's looks change in every version. From the comic book to the animated series to the multi-verse of DC comics to, and I have to say it, Teen Titans Go. Though Raven's powers pretty much stay the same. Many people remember Raven's pychic powers, ranging from telekinesis, telepathy, and even empathy, which heals others by taking on other's traumas, but this hurts Raven in return and allows her to see bits and pieces of other's life and even them into her's. This usually leds to Raven being knocked unconscious from the pain of other's emotions and the constraint of her powers. She also has an Astral form, known more commonly as her Soul-self, where she can manipulate her own soul as a way to travel between places and even worlds and dimensions. In the comic book, her soul can only last five minutes outside the body, though the animated series suggests that isn't the case, plus in the comic books she eventually overcame said limitation. She's also known for teleporting and moving through walls. This is her dark magic at work. With dark magic, Raven can move through portals to move through walls and pop up in places with or without someone coming with her. Then you get to her demon powers, which isn't shown very often. It's makes sense, considering Raven's demon half was the part Raven loathed about herself.
What is known about her demon half is what Raven looks like when her demon half is in control of her body. In the comic books, the only thing different about Raven in her demon form from her normal self was 4 red eyes and more heightened and destructive powers, plus red skin and horns like her father. In the animated series, Raven's demon form was mostly hidden under Raven's cloak, which was probably a good thing, considering what we did see was not only the 4 red eyes, but also several black tentecule-like things from under her cloak. She also seems unpredictable in this state and worse yet, uncontrollable.
Judging from the comic books, her demon-self's powers consists of energy beams shooting from her four red eyes, shape-shifting, and a more powerful soul-self which can incinerate most foes instantly. Raven's other known powers are also stronger than ever in her demon form.
Raven also has a pure form. When she's at her strongest and in a positive attitude, she becomes her white-cloaked self. The white color of her cloak relates to Raven's home of Azeroth, since the people there wore white clothing as a way of showing their peaceful lifestyle. Raven is often seen in this form usually whenever she's fighting Trigon, though she has had to use her purified form against a few times during other foes in the Teen Titans franchise.
Raven is also known for more than just her powers and past. The comic book and Teen Titans Go versions of Raven have developed quite the (clears throat) relationship with Beast Boy. Many a fan freaks out over those two being together romantically(Me included 💜💘💚). The animated series of Teen Titans only implied that Raven had a crush on BB, and vice versa. In the comic books, the two got into a loving relationship, only to break up when the other Teen Titans separated. Raven felt she had to travel the world on her own for a while looking for purpose, plus she heard she might have family on her mother's side and wanted to look for them if it was true. After Raven became a member and mentor when the Titans regrouped, she said she didn't have feelings for BB, though in all honesty she did, she was just worried her demon half would get in the way. After she suddenly was able to freely feel emotions without the immediate fear of her demon half, her and Beast Boy talked about the matter, only for it to become a matter of their love for each other. Raven finally emitting she still had feelings for him, Beast Boy then emitted himself that his feelings for her were still strong and said"-you've always worried about the bad things, so let's think abput the good-,"(or something like that, I don't know exactly) and the two then shared a passionate kiss, rekindling their romantic flame. Unfortunately, when the Flashpoint occurred in DC comics it reset pretty much everything, including Raven's relationship with Beast Boy, the two acting like they don't even like each other and, unfortunately, has yet to turn a romantic tide(because God f**kin d**nit DC you couldn't keep f**kin messing with those two like ya have couldn't you?.... Sorry, I'm a dedicated fan, so forgive me for losing it like that. I don't really talk like that in person).
In Teen Titans Go, Raven and Beast Boy, at first, had an obvious but somehow unnoticeable crush on each other. Then in the episode Rocks and Water, after Raven and Beast Boy found out their exs, Aqualad and Terra, were a couple, they both at first decided to pretend to be a couple themselves to make Terra and Aqualad jealous. Unfortunately for them, it didn't work, so they decided to just screw around with them till they hated each other's guts. This actually works, as Terra and Aqualad decide to break up. As Raven and Beast Boy laugh in celebration, the two seemed rather closer then usual and looked at each other with half lidded eyes. Next thing both of em knew, they're were kissing each other's lips. Raven at first seemed angry at BB and was this close to beating him up for the deed, but then, as she stated herself, she found that the kiss felt quite nice and was Raven soon rather enjoyed it. Though BB wanted to kiss her again, just to make sure, Terra and Aqualad somehow find out about Raven and Beast Boy ruining their relationship, and though they still wanted to break up with each other, they both launched an assault on both of them. Though they were actually easily beatin and sent to the dimension Terra was trapped in previously. As the sun set, Raven and Beast Boy were close sharing another kiss, but of course Cyborg, being the "third wheel" he screwed it up and BB completely forgot about what he was doing!
It wasn't till the episode of Teen Titans Go called BBRae, which is the fans name for the RavenXBeast boy coupling, that Beast Boy suddenly decided he couldn't take it and wanted to be with Raven. He attempted to sing a romantic song he wrote to Raven. The song, however, was originally made for when BB was in love with Terra, and Raven knew this. After sometime, BB decided to make a new song just for Raven and him, which he sung for her. Raven fell for the song trick and decided to let BB have his way, and the two shared a kiss, kickstarting their relationship. Their being a couple isn't really brought up again till one episode where, despite Raven's request not to, Beast Boy took their song to the Internet, and it somehow became viral. After being asked to perform it time after time after time, he became obsessed with being famous, to the point where he said to Raven, quote"-I wrote the song for my fans.-" As you can imagine, this broke Raven's heart. She then put a curse on the song, where whenever BB sung it he would always mess up. This caused a rukus, and eventually Beast Boy's fame faded like a bad memory. BB didn't come back to Titans Tower till he realized the error of his ways, and apologized for it to Raven so that they could be a couple again. Raven forgave him, and the two got back together. They would have shared a kiss between them right then, but they found out Robin was spying on them during their personal moment and obviously had to beat him for it.
Raven has half-brothers from her father's side of the family. How many exactly and what their names are, if Trigon even bothered, is uncertain. Three of them from the comic books have attempted to take Trigon's place or resurrect him before, but Raven screwed that up before anything too serious could happen.
