Day of the Moon
The Stone sighed again for the third time that morning or evening, she really couldn't tell now since her and the Doctor were in strait-jackets in what looked like an old plane hanger, feeling as if the restrains on her straight jacket were actually getting tighter and tighter as every few weeks went by, possibly they were getting retightened by the soldiers that were patrolling her and the Doctor whenever she fell asleep every few days but she very much doubted that, she wasn't the deepest of sleepers. It was always a possibility though. It wasn't so bad or hardly noticeable to anyone but by month two and a half but she felt the straight jacket definitely wasn't as loose as it was before when she and the Doctor were put into them.
The Doctor sat beside her in an identical strait-jacket, shackles chained to his ankles just like she had been as well however he had also acquired quite a large beard. Something he knew the Stone definitely wasn't that fond of.
By the third week, the Time Lords had guessed that they were in area fifty-one, multiple guards surrendering them in what looked like an old aircraft hanger. A black square on the floor with them in the middle. Yellow tape in a circle the words "Do Not Approach The Prisoners." On multiple signs.
Followed by his guards Canton walked up to the strait-jacketed Time Lords who held blank faces. Only talking and entertaining each other aloud when Canton wasn't there to watch. Telepathically communicating with each other was second nature to them, especially when they really wanted to piss Canton off by staying silent, the telepathic communication was actually something that had grown quite intimate between the two Time Lords, not that it wasn't intimate before but then again they didn't have a reason to communicate with each other like that all the time. It was something that was quite natural or at least was in United Time Lords.
"We found Amy Pond." Canton informed them glancing at some photographs before tossing them down. The photos just touching the yellow tape. "She had strange markings on her arm. Do you know what they are?"
"Why don't you ask her?" The Doctor smirked making the man blink not hearing the Time Lord speak aloud in quite a while before he noticed the Doctors face slightly fall. His eyes flickered over to the ginger Time Lady. His green eyes meeting her blue ones. They no doubt were telepathically communicating again. The Stone hadn't actually spoken aloud (at least to Cantons knowledge) since just over a month and a half.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"We found Doctor Song." Canton said to them. it only had been a few days after he had told them about Rory.
"These bricks, what are they made of?" The Doctor questioned watching as the men working placed another one of the thick black bricks down. Half the wall behind them already completed. "Where is she?"
"She ran. Off the fiftieth floor."
"I'd say zero balance dwarf star alloy." The Stone hummed even making the Doctor blink unexpectedly at her. "The densest material in the universe." She said watching as the guards placed another one of the black bricks. The edge between the brick below it and the one just placed down glowing a slight whitish colour before disappearing, leaving no trace of the brick before it. "Nothing gets through that."
"You're building us the perfect prison." The Doctor narrowed his eyes at Canton. "And it still won't be enough."
"Of course it won't." The Stone nodded in agreement. "Now sweetheart." She looked over at the Doctor. "Tell me honestly am I getting fat?"
The Doctor snorted aloud something he truly had not done in a good few weeks. "With the small amount of food you're getting dear, highly unlikely."
"That's what I thought." She frowned.
"Why?" He asked his eyes showing slight fear, fear that he couldn't hug her, hold her, kiss her or just simply touch her knowing that even if she wasn't safe she was beside him.
"Well, I wasn't sure." She frowned. "I definitely feel fatter."
"Its the lack of mobility dear." He replied. "And probably mint tea..."
"Yes." She nodded. "Probably."
Canton curiously watched them wondering why they had a totally normal conversation a loud after almost three months of the Stone saying nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------
It had been another week before Canton returned, the alloy star cell finished leaving the room quite dark, only enough light for the Time Lords to see around them and the edge of the cell until the door of the cell opened with Canton and two guards stepping inside. Two body bags being dragged in no doubt holding Amy and Rory. "Is there a reason you're doing this?" The Doctor asked slightly glaring at the man as the Stone narrowed her eyes at him.
"I want you both to know where you stand."
"In a cell." The Doctor deadpanned.
"In the perfect cell." Canton corrected. "Nothing can penetrate these walls. Not a sound, not a radio wave, not the tiniest particle of anything." The soldiers that brought the body bags in then left leaving Canton and the strait-jacketed Time Lords in the room, Canton placed his fingers into holes on the wall, most likely a sensor that only allowed him and a few individuals to open or close the door. "In here, you're literally cut off from the rest of the universe." He said looking between them a small smile growing on his face. "So I guess they can't hear us, right?"
"Good work, Canton." The Doctor grinned. "Door sealed?"
"You bet."
The Stone laughed shaking her head as the Doctor instantly stood up shaking off his shackles and strait-jacket. The Stone shook her head and did the same as the body bags sat up gasping for breath as the Time Lords managed to break free quickly moving over to a body bag each undoing the zips as Amy and Rory gasped for some fresh air.
"Are you okay?" The Doctor asked them tightly hugging Rory.
"Finally." Amy breathed as the Stone laughed hugging the woman.
"These things could really do with air holes."
"Never had a complaint before." Canton chuckled as the Stone shook her head, she would have found it quite humourous if she hadn't been tied up for three months with no mint tea, reading or about to hug and kiss the Doctor.
"Isn't it going to look odd that you're staying in here with us?"
"Odd, but not alarming. They know there's no way out of this place."
"Exactly." The Doctor grinned. "Whatever they might think we're doing in here, they know we're not going anywhere." He clapped his hands together. "Now, before we go anywhere I have something I need to do." He grinned.
"Which is?" Amy questioned as Rory frowned not understanding what was going on as the Stone chuckled.
"This." Without a warning, his arms were around the Stones waist, her arms around his neck as he slowly and tenderly kissed her. It had been three months, it was practically killing him that they hadn't had any physical contact in that time.
Amy blinked slightly chuckling at them both before looking over at Canton frowning. "But if we can't get out without them seeing how are we going to actually stop those things?"
"Ah well." The Stone said after she and the Doctor broke apart, her lips slightly swollen.
The Doctor smirked slumping to the side before he leant against, nothing? There was a shimmer and the shape of the TARDIS appeared still invisible but clear for them to see it was definitely there. He clicked his fingers and held his hand out for the Stone. "Shall we?"
The Stone laughed shaking her head while taking his hand. "Is that even a question sweetheart?"
"After you dear." He grinned at her. They all then stepped inside the Time Lords ran around the console, it was almost as if they never left the TARDIS.
"What about Doctor Song? She dove off a rooftop." Canton asked.
"Don't worry." The Doctor waved his hands.
"Doctor." The Stone gave him a pointed look.
"I wasn't going to say that we weren't going to get her." He rolled his eyes at her.
"You can't-fool me, sweetheart." She rolled her eyes as he gave her a sheepish look before laughing.
"Oh, believe me, dear. I already know that."
"Good but she does that." The Stone shrugged at Canton. "Amy, Rory, open all the doors to the swimming pool and please Doctor." She gave him a pleading look. "Do get rid of that beard at your first chance."
"Of course." He nodded as a large splash was heard followed by River holding a towel in her hand lightly rubbing her hair. "So, we know they're everywhere. Not just a landing party, an occupying force, and they have been here a very, very long time."
"But nobody knows that, because no one can remember them." The Stone added pulling a lever.
"So what are they up to?" Canton questioned.
"No idea." The Doctor shrugged. "But the good news is, we've got a secret weapon." he ran outside the TARDIS with the Time Lady. The others following behind.
"Apollo 11's your secret weapon?" River questioned.
"No, no. It's not Apollo 11." The Doctor shook his head lightly chuckling at the thought. "That would be silly. It's Neil Armstrong's foot."
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Ow!" Canton cried out as the Doctor injected something into him with a gun. His face shaved and completely clean with no beard, his haircut back with the Stones help, she quite enjoyed it slightly longer but quickly changed her mind after his floppy hair returned to its normal length. Her hair doing the same with Rivers help, not actually trusting the Doctor with scissors near her hair.
"Ha. So, three months." The Doctor clapped his hands together. "What have we found out?"
"Well, they are everywhere," Rory said. "Every state in America. Ahh!" He cried instantly pulling his hand away after feeling a large sting in his hand the Doctor having shot a small device into his hand.
"Not just America, the entire world."
"There's a greater concentration here, though." River informed.
"Ow!" Amy cried.
"Are you okay?" The Doctor looked at Amy curiously.
"All better." She nodded.
"Better?" She Stone raised a brow not entirely sure if she was talking about the Do tor shooting a device into her hand or her pregnancy that they were both told three months ago.
"Turns out I was wrong." She whispered. "I'm not pregnant."
Frowning Rory walked closer to them from where he was stood on the other side of the console as Amy looked down. "What's up?"
"Nothing." Amy quickly replied. "Really, nothing. Seriously."
"So you've seen them, but you don't remember them," Canton asked.
"You've seen them, too. That night at the warehouse, remember?" River asked. "While you were pretending to hunt us down, we saw hundreds of those things. We still don't know what they look like."
"It's like they edit themselves out of your memory as soon as you look away. The exact second you're not looking at them, you can't remember anything."
"Sometimes you feel a bit sick, though, but not always."
The Stone frowned a little in thought before shaking her head as Canton continued. "So that's why you marked your skin."
"Only way we'd know if we'd had an encounter."
"How long have they been here?"
"That's what we've spent the last three months trying to find out."
"Not easy, if you can't remember anything you discover." Rory pointed out.
"How long do you think?"
"As long as there's been something in the corner of your eye, or creaking in your house, or breathing under your bed, or voices through a wall." The Doctor cut in. "They've been running your lives for a very long time now, so keep this straight in your head. We are not fighting an alien invasion, we're leading a revolution. And today, the battle begins."
"How?"
"Like this." The Doctor quickly injected River with the gun making her cry out in pain.
"Nanorecorder." He laughed making the Stone hit the back of his head. "Sorry." He quietly added. "Fuses with the cartilage in your hand." He then closed his eyes for a moment sighing. "Sorry dear."
"It won't be that bad." The Stone shook her head holding out her hand and softly smiled when the Doctor kissed her palm before pressing the gun to it sucking in a breath the Stone closed her eyes before he fired it making her wince in pain.
"Sorry." He whispered lightly kissing the mark on her hand.
"Not so bad." She smiled taking the gun off him and injecting him with the nanorecorder.
"Ow." He blankly said before shaking his head at the concerned look on her face "It tunes itself directly to the speech centres in your brain. It'll pick up your voice, no matter what." He continued from before.
"A telepathic connection." The Stone added. "So, the moment you see one of the creatures, you activate it."
"And describe aloud exactly what you're seeing."
"And describe aloud exactly what you're seeing." The nanorecorder repeated what he said after the Doctor held his hand up pressing his palm with his middle finger.
"Because the moment you break contact, you're going to forget it happened. The light will flash if you've left yourself a message. You keep checking your hand if you've had an encounter. That's the first you'll know about it."
"Why didn't you tell me this before we started?" Canton frowned.
"We did." The Stone cut in. "But even information about these creatures erases itself over time. We couldn't refresh it because We couldn't talk to you."
Canton then looked away before turning back and straightened the Doctors bowtie before frowning noticing that everyone was now staring at him. "What?" He asked looking between them. "What are you staring at?"
"Look at your hand." River nodded to Canton's hand where a small red dot was flashing in his palm. He looked back at them in slight alarm as he held his hand up pointing at the flash.
"Why is it doing that?"
"What does it mean if the light's flashing?" The Doctor asked. "What did I just tell you?"
"I haven't-"
"Play it." The Stone cut him off.
Canton did just that cautiously pressing the flashing light hearing himself from no doubt only a couple of moments ago. "My God, how did it get in here?"
"Keep eye contact with the creature and, when I say, turn back, and when you do, straighten my bow tie." The past Doctor informed.
"What? What are you staring at?"
"Look at your hand."
They all then slowly turned before seeing what could be mistaken as one of the real slim aliens. "It's a hologram, extrapolated from the photo on Amy's phone. Take a good, long look."
They stared for a few moments before the Stone pulled a lever making the image disappear. "You just saw an image of one of the creatures we're fighting." She explained. "Describe it to me."
Canton frowned seeming to try to think about it before slowly shaking his head. "I can't."
"No." The Doctor said in agreement his arm moving around the Stones waist. "Neither can I. You straightened my bow tie because I planted the idea in your head while you were looking at the creature."
"So they could do that to people. You could be doing stuff and not really knowing why you're doing it."
"Like posthypnotic suggestion." Rory guessed.
"Ruling the world with posthypnotic suggestion."
The Doctor nodded before moving around the TARDIS with the Stone. "Now then, a little girl in a spacesuit. They got the suit from NASA, but where did they get the girl?"
"It could be anywhere." Canton frowned.
"Except they'd probably stay close to that warehouse, because why bother doing anything else?"
"And they'd take her from somewhere that would cause the least amount of attention." The Stone added, the Doctor typing something on the typewriter before looking at the scanner. "But sadly you'll have to find her on your own. The Doctor and I are off to NASA."
"Find her?" Canton frowned looking between the Time Lords. "Where do we look?"
"Children's homes."
----------------------------------------------------------------
"So?"
"So?" The Stone frowned not understanding what her husband was about to say while they fiddled with the wires somehow both managing to fit in the compartment.
"It's been three months."
"Yeah." She slowly nodded.
"Are you okay?" He questioned her. "You seem... off?"
"Sweetheart." She chuckled shaking her head slightly shifting to face him a hand coming up to cup his cheek. "I'm perfectly fine."
"But you're right." He said making her frown a little. "I'm not trying to be rude at all dear, but you are a little fatter."
"Lack of mobility." She replied shrugging. "Just like you said."
"That's what I thought..." he closed his eyes sighing. "You don't think-"
"No." She cut him off shaking her head. "I don't think so."
"You don't think or you don't want to be?" He questioned giving her a pointed look for the truth.
"If-" she sighed closing her eyes for a moment before opening them. "If I was they would always be running in fear of everything that hates us, always being in our shadow. I can't bare to think what that would be like, a Gallifreyan childhood was never good but I can't think of anything worse than that."
"You don't want to be because you don't want to pressurise it."
"Exactly." She sighed. "And we're not exactly the best role models for parents or equip for it."
"We can stop." He sighed shaking his head squeezing her hand. "If you were we could stop?"
"But could you really?" She whispered. "I'm not sure I could either."
"We'll figure this out Stone." He whispered pulling the Time Lady closer for a short but sweet kiss. "I promise."
"I love you.'
"I love you too dear."
Suddenly there was a beeping, the Doctor grumbled placing down the wires he had just picked back up while grabbing the device to place on his ear so he could continue to work while talking. "Amy."
"I think we've found the place she was taken from."
"How do you know?"
"Because those things have been here." She said making the Stone raise a brow hearing her words in the silence. "But the whole place is deserted. There's just one guy here and I think he's lost it."
"Repeated memory wipes fry your head eventually." The Doctor explained. "Find out what you can, but don't hang around."
"Where are you?"
"Doctor." The Stone whispered hearing footsteps.
"Got to go." He quickly replied. "Got company." The Doctor quickly closed the panel and looked between the two men. "Don't worry, we've put everything back the way we found it."
"Yes I made sure of that." The Stone gave the Doctor a pointed look. "But there was this." She frowned holding up a small device.
"There's always a bit left over, isn't there?" The Doctor grinned before swallowing seeing that the scientists were not amused.
The Doctor and the Stone were handcuffed and sat in separate chairs while the two men paced around before the oldest one for the hundredth time knelt down to talk to them. "Now, one more time, sir, ma'am. How the hell did you get into the command module?"
"We told you." The Doctor repeated. "We're on a top-secret mission for the President." He then looked down at tried to bite through the handcuffs.
"Because that's really going to work sweetheart." The Stone rolled her eyes at him as he gave her a sheepish look.
"Well, maybe if you just get President Nixon to assure us of that, sir, that would be swell." The man sarcastically replied.
"Oh don't worry." The Stone waved a hand the other one being dragged involuntarily as she was handcuffed just like the Doctor. "I thought you would ask that so I sent him a message."
The man scoffed at the Time Lady who narrowed her eyes at him only to smirk as the doors opened behind the men opened revealing the TARDIS in the other room while President Nixon walked through, River in a blue dress and Rory in a suit, pretending to work for the President.
The men instantly shot up eyes wide seeing the President who walked up shaking their hands. "Hello. I believe it's Mister Gardner. Is that correct? Head of Security?"
"Er, yes sir." The older man nodded as the Doctor grinned at the Stone. "Yes, Mister President."
"Mister Grant, is it?"
"Yes, Mister President."
"The hopes and dreams of millions of Americans stand here today at Cape Kennedy, and you're the men who guard those dreams. On behalf of the American people, I thank you."
"You're welcome, Mister President." Gardener nodded.
"I understand you have a baby on the way, Mister Grant."
"Yes, Mister President."
"What are you hoping for, a boy or a girl?"
"Just a healthy American, sir." The man replied looking slightly nervous.
"A healthy American will do just nicely." Nixon chuckled patting the mans back before growing serious. "Now, fellows, listen. This man, here, code name the Doctor and woman, code name the Stone, are doing some work for me personally. Could you cut them a little slack?"
"Er, Mister President, they did break into Apollo 11." Gardener replied. Nixon frowned at the Time Lords, the Stone winced a little while the Doctor mouthed an apology back to the man.
"Well," Nixon coughed returning his attention back on the men. "I'm sure they had a very good reason for that. But I need you to release them now so they can get on with some very important work for the American people. Could you do that for me?"
"Well..." Grant started before getting cut off by Nixon who gave him a pointed look.
"Son, I am your Commander in Chief."
"Then I guess that would be fine, Mister President." The older one nodded.
"Glad to hear it." Nixon grinned as the MP released the Doctor, the Stone lightly rubbed her wrists making the Doctor slightly panic that she was hurt, quickly moving to her side he sighed seeing no marks before he linked his arm with hers.
"Thank you." He grinned waving at the men. "Bye, bye."
"See you!" The Stone called waving back at them as they headed towards the TARDIS.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"You have to tape everything that happens in this office." The Doctor told Nixon after they had exited the TARDIS once again. "Every word, or you won't know if you're under the influence."
"Doctor, Stone you have to give me more than this." He shook her head at them. "What were you both doing to Apollo 11?"
"A Thing." The Doctor said. "A clever thing. Now, no more questions. You have to trust us and nobody else."
"Doctor, Stone." River poked her head out of the TARDIS doors sounding quite alarmed, automatically gaining both Time Lords attention with the way her voice sounded. "It's Canton. Quick, he needs us."
The Doctor quickly nodded taking the Stones hand, both of the quickly heading into the TARDIS. "They've got Amy." River said as the Doctor and the Stone moved around the console after freezing looking at the curly haired blonde before finally freeing themselves, moving in sync not even bumping into each other as they piloted the TARDIS before running to the doors as the Time rotor stopped moving.
"...I'm going to try to blow the lock. I need you to stand back." They heard Canton shout.
"Okay, gun down." The Doctor ordered quickly moving in front of him his sonic on the doorknob trying to open the door. "I've got it."
"Amy, we're here," Rory called as the Doctor managed to get the door open. "Are you okay?"
"I can't see." Amy cried as they rushed in.
"Where is she, Stone?" Rory questioned as the Doctor flashed his sonic at the spacesuit lying on the floor of the room.
River crouched down and the visor flew up revealing the suit to be unoccupied. "It's empty."
"It's dark. So dark." They heard Amy's quiet sobs making both the Time Lords hearts plummet. "I don't know where I am. Please, can anybody hear me?"
Rory swallowed slowly crouching down seeing the small red flashing light on the floor, unmistakable for Amy's nanorecorder. "They took this out of her." Rory picked it up cupping it in his hands as if it was not the most precious thing in the world. "How did they do that, Doctor? Why can I still hear her?"
"Is it a recording?" River softly asked still crouched beside the spacesuit. The Doctor without looking clearly annoyed flashed his sonic at the nanorecorder and then looked at his sonic shaking his head. "Er, it defaults to live." He swallowed hard knowing that this was happening right now, right at this moment and there was nothing he could do to help her. "This is current. Wherever she is right now, this is what she's saying."
Without saying another word Rory turned his back on the others bringing both his hands up and closer to his mouth trying to keep his voice as steady as possible. "Amy, can you hear me?" He asked most likely knowing that she realistically couldn't hear anything they were staying. "We're coming for you. Wherever you are, we're coming, I swear."
"She can't hear you." The Do tor quietly replied. "I'm so sorry. It's one way."
Instantly the man turned around his eyes boring into the Time Lords looking determined. "She can always hear me, Doctor. Always. Wherever she is, and she always knows that I am coming for her. Do you understand me? Always."
The Doctor swallowed thickly feeling the Stones hand slowly reach for his, her fingers curling around his entwining their fingers together. Slowly he nodded because if it was him in Rory's shoes he would never stop looking, never stop fighting to get back to the Stone. Not just because she was the last Time Lady but because she was his best friend, his wife. The most important person he had ever met; he would never stop, never rest until she was safely in his arms. He definitely understood.
"Doctor, Stone, are you out there?" The nanorecorder Amy whimpered making both Time Lords close there eyes momentarily not even able to understand how, hurt Rory must be to not hear her crying and calling for him. Her husband. "Can you hear me? Doctor, Stone? Oh, God. Please, please, just get me out of this."
"They're coming," Rory whispered into the nanorecorder. "I'll bring them," his eyes met the Time Lords who nodded not being needed to be told twice. "I swear."
"Hello?" They all shot their heads to the door hearing an old man call. Canton raising his gun and torch. "Is somebody there?" He then sighed lowering it as the man entered the doorway. "I think someone has been shot. I think we should help. We c-" he then frowned. "I can't re- I can't remember." Instantly the Time Lords shot down the hall the old man following them before leading the way through the corridors the others following behind. Upon entering the last hallway they both could see one of whatever they kept seeing crouched on the ground trying to shift back when spotting the Doctor and the Stone coming towards it before they both crouched down, the Doctor not even trusting, it in the slightest with how tightly he was holding the Stones hand making sure he was between her and the creature, he wasn't going to take his chances, definitely not when they had possible ideas with why she was 'sick'.
"Okay." The Doctor whispered to himself. "Who and what are you?"
"Silence, Doctor." It hissed. "Stone, we are the Silence."
Both the Doctors and the Stones eyes widened remembering hearing that one word in multiple places between when they met Amy the second time with prisoners zero and Amy and Rory's wedding. Remembering the silence and nothingness they heard at Venice, as well as Rosanna telling them.
The Doctors hand tightened on the Stones has he stood up making sure she was in front of him as they left the room the others behind him, River staying in the room to watch the silence while the Time Lords thought up a plan.
