Ch 75
Ok! You guys are gonna be my lil helpers today. If you'd see any mistakes, spelling or grammar or something, let me know and I'll look over it.
Also, I'm not sure if I've showed y'all this song before but it's quite literally my favorite song of all time. Idk if y'all just have that "go-to" song that you listen to for comfort or just familiarity, but for me it's this one.
Fawn's POV
The station was refreshingly calm today, thank god.
I think I've had my fair share of excitement for the week, already.
The moment Al and I stepped into the main office, multiple people stopped their work to look at us.
Curious eyes fell onto us as we entered, followed by a swarm of people carefully gathering around me.
Gentle murmurs came from the group of young reporters, asking me if I was ok and if I was feeling better.
Sweet as the sentiment was, all the attention quickly had me feeling overwhelmed and bashful.
Luckily, Alastor shielded me slightly from everyone, "ok, ok, she's quite alright, gentlemen," he chuckled, waving his hand at them, "go on back to your work, we wouldn't want to fall behind," he added, to which they all scurried away.
I let out a breath that I'd been holding and looked up at him with a smile, "thanks," I whispered and he squeezed me into a side hug.
Him and I then made our way over to his office, and when we made it through the door, Niffty was the first thing I saw.
She looked to be carefully dusting Alastor's desk, but when she looked up and saw me, she gasped.
Then before I could even blink, she was bouncing around me and checking my body in various places.
"Fawn, ohmygosh, I've been so worried about you! How are you feeling? Are you alright? Do you have a fever? How many fingers am I holding up?"
She kept rambling and spiraling into a little pit of worry, until finally I managed to snag her by the shoulders and hold her still in front of me.
"Niff!" I chuckled, and for a moment she looked dizzy and had to blink a couple times before she could focus on me.
"I'm alright, Niff...I was just feeling a little bit sick is all, but I'm better now," I assured her, smiling.
She breathed out a soft sigh of relief.
"Oh my goodness...I was so worried about you Fawn, we all were! I swear, everyone in the office kept asking Thomas question after question about you," she said, and my eyes widened slightly.
I felt a blush begin to burn on my face and flattery warm up my chest.
"Oh..." I uttered quietly, a tiny slightly embarrassed smile on my face.
I didn't realize anyone would care so much about me...I thought I was just the girl who followed their boss around all day.
Suddenly Niffty perked up, "oh! I need to go get Thomas and tell him you're alright!" She said, and before I could stop her and tell her it's fine, she was already through the door and probably halfway down the hallway.
I chuckled and shook my head, making my way over to Al's desk.
He was already hard at work, a bored smile on his face as he filed and edited papers. His eyebrows furrowed as he read over something in the file he was editing, and then he took his pen and crossed out what looked like an entire paragraph.
"What the fuck..." he murmured sounding genuinely confused.
I stifled a giggle behind my hand, hoisting myself up onto his desk.
"No good on tomorrow's topics?" I asked him, studying the strained smile on his face.
He sighed.
"I swear to god, Fawn, ever since we lost Mindy this company has suffered so greatly in the department of fine writing," he grumbled, pinching his nose and sitting back into his seat.
My smile faded slightly, and I looked down at my lap. Even though I know it's not, I can't help but feel that her...departure...is partially my fault.
Upon my silence, I heard him shuffle slightly as he pushed the papers away before maneuvering himself between my legs.
He set his hands on my thighs and leaned down so he could see my eyes, his smile looking a bit timid.
"I apologize, my love...I should've phrased that better. What I meant was the man who has taken over her responsibilities is just slightly incompetent," he corrected himself, his tone a bit softer.
I looked up and gave him a soft smile, shaking my head in a way to reassure him, "no, you're alright...so, what's so incompetent about him?" I asked, perking up as I changed the subject.
He moved back over to where he'd been previously and snatched up the papers, "get a load of this, baby...here, come here and sit so I can show you better," he said, patting his lap.
Once I'd moved comfortably onto his legs, he wrapped his arms around me so he could properly point everything out.
"First of all, this entire paragraph is just a run-on sentence...and if the gentleman's grammar wasn't enough of an issue, his spelling, my god," Al grumbled and I could practically hear him roll his eyes.
I giggled softly, listening to him ramble and complain. My body relaxed against him, eyes trailing over the words on the page before us.
The more I read, the more I understood what Alastor was saying. This document was elementary at best, and I know by now that Al does not do elementary.
If I don't help he'll be working on this alone until he has to go broadcast.
"Well, couldn't you move this paragraph up here, and rewrite the introductory sentence to make it flow better into the rest of the story?" I interrupted Al's grumbling, and he went quiet as he looked over the paper.
"That...would be better, actually," he mumbled, making a few notes in that perfect cursive of his.
From there I continued to point out anything I thought would make the story more concise. Al made any changes I wanted, and added his own notes here and there.
Within a matter of minutes, the document was polished and looking so much better than when we started. The report actually made sense, now, and had an interesting hook to it that wouldn't absolutely bore our listeners.
When we finished the last paragraph, he let out an impressed huff, and sat back against his chair, pulling me along with him.
"My, darling, you truly would've been perfect for this position..." he complimented, brushing his nose into the side of my neck.
I hummed.
"Y'know...it's not like the offer is off the table. If you're tired of scrubbing toilets and filling coffee cups, I could boot you up, if you'd like," he suggested casually.
A small sigh huffed past my lips, and I leaned into his gentle touches.
"Mmm...no. I don't really want it to be a full time gig, I mean...I enjoy editing and writing, but if I had to make it a job, it wouldn't be fun anymore. Plus, I love working close with Niff, she's like...my best friend here," I mumbled, shrinking into myself bashfully at the mushy sentiment I just expressed.
Al chuckled softly, "I've noticed. You two are like two peas in a pod, my dear. She used to be so anxious, but with you she seems to be able to neutralize that...it's nice to see her connect with somebody. Since Lilian passed she's just been...not herself...but you've helped."
Lilian's name touched a soft, sore spot in my heart.
"Yea..." I agreed quietly, and laid back into Alastor completely.
He rubbed my sides gently, brushing his lips over my neck and laying down feather light kisses.
Suddenly, our calm was interrupted when the door leading to the hall nearly busted off its hinges.
Both of us jolted, me practically being electrocuted off his lap into a standing position.
"I'm back!" Niffty chirped, dancing into the room with Tom in tow.
He smiled down at her, the look in his eyes seeming a bit softer than usual. Then he looked up at me with a wide smile.
"Fawn, dear! So lovely to see you peachy toned and smiling again. Al told me you were feeling a bit green in the face yesterday, I'm hoping we feel all better now?" He queried with a tilt of his head.
I nodded.
"Yep!" Was my swift response, my heart still hammering from the scare I received when they had burst into the room.
He laughed and straightened his posture, throwing his arms behind his back.
"Splendid! Glad to see you alright, sweetheart," he said, and I nodded, smiling at the sentiment.
Then his attention snapped to Alastor, "Alastor, my friend!" He greeted happily, "ready to deliver a home run report this fine morning?"
Al stood up, approaching Thomas with a smile.
His demeanor towards Thomas is...friendly. That's the only way I can really describe it, coming from someone who only sees either Al's intimate side or his intimidating side.
Normally when he interacts with people, it's pure intimidation. The smile, the posture, even his tone. He did it with Thomas the first few times they spoke.
But now, it's like he's actually made a real friend. The sight alone was enough to make me smile, mostly because I'm pretty sure Alastor has never had a friend before.
Niffty is practically a little sister, and I'm his lover...it's good that he has someone he considers a companion.
"My good man, have I ever disappointed you?" Al retorted playfully, mocking hurt in his tone, "oh, you wound me," he feigned sadness.
Thomas rolled his eyes and chuckled, "Alastor, the day you disappoint with one of your broadcasts will be the day the sky falls. Now we have about 15 minutes before we need to get ready, so how about we all go grab a quick coffee in the break room before showtime?" He offered.
Immediately, I grimaced.
Niffty perked up, "oh, the fresh brew probably just finished! C'mon let's go!" She chirped excitedly, grabbing Tom's hand.
She dragged him away, and Al looked at me with a small smile.
"Do you want to join them? We can stay back if you'd like, my love...I know your senses are quite sensitive right now," he said, walking up to me.
My body was shocked with surprise when he touched my belly very gently, the contact being unexpected.
However, I immediately leaned into the warmth of his hand and wrapped my arms up around his neck.
"No, I'm fine," I responded with a smile, "but...before we go..."
My eyelids lowered, and I got on my toes while simultaneously pulling him down towards me.
He didn't need anymore cues, and leaned down to capture my lips with his. However, I think I did catch him off guard when I tilted my head and deepened the kiss.
I invaded his mouth with my tongue, kneading against his gently as our lips moved together effortlessly.
He made a soft noise that sounded surprised but also like a question.
Probably a 'what are you up to?'
But I wasn't up to anything. Even though his hands gripping my hips did cause a few sinful images to pass through my mind.
Finally, I pulled away, slightly breathless.
He kept his eyelids lowered, and licked his lips, smirking at me.
"Now what was that all about..." he purred, trailing his hands up my sides and then back down to my hips.
I hummed, matching his energy and pressing my chest up against his. His breath caught when I drew my hands down and then ghosted them over the obvious bulge in his slacks.
"Oh, just..." I paused a moment, lightly rubbing him before I pulled away completely, giving him an innocent smile, "giving you a nice kiss before you go and drink coffee. Once you have a cup, you'll probably need to brush your teeth before we kiss again or I might throw up in your mouth or punch you in the face," I said happily, walking past him.
He scoffed, and I could hear him shuffling. I glanced back to see him repositioning his newly formed boner, making it to where it was practically unnoticeable.
"Ok, first off, you're evil, woman," he huffed, and then joined me at my side, "and secondly...I guess I'll just have to refrain from drinking coffee then...your lips taste much better anyway," he purred seductively.
I snorted softly and took his hand in mine, "yea yea, womanizer, keep it in your pants," I said with a dramatic eye roll.
He chuckled and we began to head towards the break room to join our friends.
