Chapter 29;

*Emily’s POV*

We got back to London in the middle of the night, like three in the morning. So we went to sleep to start a new day soon. I couldn’t sleep though, so when I hear a guitar and footsteps under our room at seven in the morning, I’m already throwing on something decent. I slowly walk out of our level, down the stairs and onto the landing of George’s own level.

“Jesus!” George almost yells, as the note he’s playing goes out of tune.

“No, Emily.” I say laughing at myself trying to be a little comic relief but the way he’s glaring at me means I’m not helping.

“What is it? I don’t feel like talkin’.” George snaps at me.

“You don’t have to talk. Show me what yer tryin’ to play.” I tell him and George just looks at me confused but starts playing from the beginning. Then the chord goes sour.

“And you see, I keep messing up here.” George told me angrily again.

“Maybe it’s not you.”

“What is it? It’s not her.” George tells me referring to his guitar.

“Maybe it’s yer subconscious. You don’t want to play it. It sounds incomplete and you know it’ll continue to be incomplete unless you talk about it.” I tell him.

“And you say yer not ‘ere to talk, hm?” George says chuckling.

“Not unless you’ve got something Geo.”

“Of course I do. You heard what I said on the train. I don’t love Pattie, I mean I can…. But I don’t. That’s the thing, I have the power to love her but I just can’t. Marry’s nice but reminds me of me mother. I need someone in my life, but how can I sort it out with a bird who’s pulling at me all the time ye know?”

“You can’t George. You need to figure yerself out.”

“How do I do that?”

“I can’t tell you.”

“Why not?”

“Because George, it’s you. It’s yer mind. I cannot tell you what you need or want. You need to find it yourself. Do what you love. Find yourself. Everyone’s rooting for ya, Geo.”

“Everyone’s so happy.”

“Come on George.” I say standing up from the bed.

“What?”

“Put a shirt on quick.” I tell him and go over to the acoustic guitar that’s sitting out and put it in the case. “I’ll be back in a minute. Be ready.” I say and run up stairs, I grab an unused notebook, a bandana and two pens. Once I reach his level George is ready with his guitar. I pick up keys from the stand and go out the front door starting up the car. I then pull a bandana over George’s eyes and drive out at the crack of dawn.

I have no clue where I’m going but I don’t want George to know either, on the 14th street I pull over in a grassy spot and pull the notebook, guitar and George out of the car. “Where are you taking me?” George complains, I just shh’s him and push him in the direction towards the woods. I finally find a clear spot in the woods and push him down. “What am I doing here?”

“You’re here,” I began to say, pulling off his blindfold. “To find yourself. I’ll be back in two hours.”

“What about food?!?!” George calls after me

“I’ll bring some! If you cooperate.” I tell him, running the rest of the way to the car. Getting back in the car and sitting in it, waiting and watching the sun come the rest of the way up. It’s been forever since I could actually just sit and enjoy myself for awhile, but the sun being so high in the sky made me start the car up and head back home.

“Paul? Paulie… Wake up!” I say standing over Paul who’s lying in our bed, rolling in his sleep and ignoring. “James Paul McCartney, I swear-” I begin to threaten before Paul pulls me down on the bed, making me yelp.

“What’s that yer gonna do then?” Paul says, more awake now as he pulls me closer.

“Pour water all over you.”

“Good thing, I need a bath.”

“God, I though something had died in here, I guess it was just you.”

“Yet, you slept in the same bed as me!” Paul said, and futhering his point by rubbing his ‘smell’ all over me.

“Ew! Ye know… tons of girls would die for your smell… unless they knew it was more like stench.”

“I don’t even smell that bad… do I?” Paul asked, self consciously smelling himself making me giggle.

“You smell like my hair wash and your deodorant.” I told him, making him grin as he pulled me back down to him kissing the side of my temple. “Have you been using my hair wash?”

“Mines all out! And I don’t really have the time to go out.”

“Yes, because this is much more important.”

“Laying in bed with me girl is very important.” Paul whispered softly, kissing me again and again.

*******************************

“It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas!” Ringo sang, as he handed me another ornament. It was funny actually. Last year it was nothing like this, we were more of a family now. The boys had to be on and off at jobs for a while, preparing for the Christmas time actually.

“Don’t you dare fall Georgie!” Pattie yelped from the other side of the room where George was currently putting up lights. After I had left him alone in the woods, he came up with lots of songs. More than a few being about food, yet he thought long and hard. And after we went to get food I dropped him off to see Pattie, after he begged me too of course.

Everything’s grand actually and that isn’t just an understatement. Other than Destiny leaving for two weeks - which she has returned safe and sound - to visit her parents in America and tell them she’ll be staying in London and with Ringo as long as they stay together. Even though her parents protest… There wasn’t much they could do right; She’s an adult.

Now finally to the two of the people I love the most. John and Donna. They’re still-of course-together, and with what happened with George and Pattie… Well I think it made us all closer to the people we love the most. To show how much we cherish them even though there’s a hey-don’t-talk-about-that rule going on.

“You know what I don’t like?” Paul said, coming in with rum and eggnog, not a Beatles tradition, but a Christmas one for sure.

“And what’s that Paulie?” John asked.

“The fact that I’ll start hanging lights and have them all done. Then three seconds later they fall down.”

“And he asked why we don’t let him put up the angel.” Donna snorted, making me burst out laughing and almost fall off the chair.

“Aw, Paulie. Don’t feel bad.” I told him, jumping down and going over to him. “There’s a lot more important things that yer even worse at!”

“That’s not funny.”

“I know, I was lying. You sir Paul are amazing at everything. Everything you do is perfect and skilled, I’m just blessed to be in yer presence.”

“All hail Paul!” The rest shouted as I kissed him on the lips.

“All hail this wonderful Christmas tree that I’ve been decorating.” Ringo scoffs jokingly.

“Aw, babe. I’ll help.” Destiny says, getting up and picking up an ornament.

I looked on as all my friends… My family, began to decorate our Christmas tree. I don’t think I could’ve named a more perfect moment than now. Paul’s arm wrapped around my waist, helping me reach high enough for the heavy decoration. Some new, many old, every single one telling a story… Just like us. Paired together, a different story than alone.

“What’re you thinking about?” Paul asked, whispering in my ear.

“How perfect this is. How at home I feel, even though I never guessed I’d feel that way again.” I told Paul truthfully.

“We’re all perfect, in our imperfect ways. I don’t think it’d be the same without all of us.”

“It wouldn’t, would it?”

“What is this? So many people, so many possibilities, and somehow I ended up here, with the most amazing person, with my wonderful friends. I don’t think life could get any better.”

***************

The next week and a half were full of disguises and shopping around for the perfect gift. We set a rule, no going over twenty in a gifts price, but then again we didn’t set a limit for the number of gifts. Now this may seem odd to some people, why we or anyone would chose to do that… Well because it’s more special, more meaningful, not ‘hey I can afford this’.

Early Christmas morning, as we all were seated around the tree, coffee mugs in our hands, I couldn’t help but smile. Everyone looked so happy, and it felt like we were little again, excited for our presents. Even if it was nothing.

“I just want to say,” I began, catching everyone’s attention, as we waited for Paul to get out of the kitchen. “I love you all. Yer all my extended family and I feel so grateful to have you guys. I don’t care what you got me, just that I got to spend the time with you.”

“You know. I never expected it to end up like this. It seems to perfect to be me life.” Ringo said.

“I love ye all. Even if yer a bunch of gits. Ye all still hold a special place in my heart.” John admitted making us laugh.

“God John. That was beautiful.” Paul joked sitting down.

“I love ye all too… BUT! I want to open me presents and if I don’t I’ll die.” George complained and we all agreed, handing out and opening presents, spreading gift wrap, tissue paper and bags everywhere. But the best gift of all was being there with them, along with all of my camera rolls they took to get developed and the fact that ‘Santa’ brought George a whole bunch of biscuits and cake.

Later in me and Paul’s level before dinner I pulled something out from under the bed, wrapped in gold and red paper. “Paulie.” I said, handing it to him.

“What’s this?”

“A present, I wanted to give it to you while we were alone. You know how immature the others are.” I say watching closely as he unwraps it.

“A photo album?”

“A scrap book. I thought we could each do a few pages… I’ve started the first few, there’s even stuff I’ve written and you’ve written.” I said nervously as I watch his hand go over the red fabric that I hand spent so much time looking at. I watched his eyes light up as he opened it. I know the first picture was of me and him, in 1963, one of the first photos we had taken together. I watch him turn the page and I knew that was a note, I had written it so long ago, yet I still remembered every word it said. I wrote it over and over again till I got it write, till I strung the words in perfect placement. I had never given it to him, and beside of it were a bunch of little notes he’d written me, when I was in the hospital or when he had to leave early. Such little details that I remembered the most.

“Yer hand writing is so much nicer than mine!”

“I took script in high school!”

“I like it though. I love it. Thank you. Just like you. I love you Emily.” Paul said kissing my lips.

“I love you too, and I’m glad.” I said kissing him again

“PAUL EMILY DINNERS READY!” John yelled for us.

“How romantic,” I said with a giggle. “Come ‘ed don’t want to keep them waiting.”

**************

The water laps at the shore as Destiny and I walk around it. It’s been surprisingly warm so we decided to take a stroll as the boys and Brian talk. I’ve grown close to Destiny, not as close as Donna but still close. She’s so shy and I love it.

“How long have you and Paul been together?” Destiny asked.

“It was two and a half years on December eighth.” I told her simply. That’s a really long time, long enough to get aquatinted.

“That’s a long time. I thought me and Ringo being together was for a long time, but I guess not.”

“Aw, don’t worry. Ringo’s one of those love sick puppy kinds.”

“And Paul isn’t?”

“Sorta, but with a dash of teenage boy syndrome. If you know what I mean.” I told her honestly and she nodded, I knew she understood what I meant. Then we saw Eppy come out of the building and wave us over. “Come on. Look there’s Brian.”

“Do you think he likes me?”

“Who Brian? He likes you more than Donna.”

“That’s not saying much!”

“It’s fine. He doesn’t dislike you. Eppy’s goal is to make the boys happy. You make Richie happy, he’s happy. End of story, unless yer Donna.”

“He doesn’t want me and Richie to go public.”

“He didn’t want any of us to go public. Makes the band look tied up, not good for it’s publicity and all, ye know?” I told her, but our conversation was cut short as we reached the building, all she could do was nod in response.

“Alri’ Brian?”

“Okay. How’re you to then?”

“Fine.”

“Good,” Destiny said, as we followed him in and up towards the elevator. “Where are we going?”

“Into the office. We’ve been planin’ a big event for new years.”

“I haven’t heard a thing ‘bout that.” I told Brian and Destiny agreed, I don’t remember hearing a thing about it.

“It’s cause they just decided it. It’s gonna be friends and family mostly you know how it gets.” Brian told us, as he hit the twelfth floor button. It opened up to a big hallway with about three or four doors on each side. Brian used a key and unlocked the second door, opening it to show George Martin, sitting down and talking to our boys, George, Paul, John and Ringo. Who seemed more enticed with whom was coming in the door.

“Ah, there you two are!” Martin said to us, as we took a seat.

“Hello Mr. Martin. How’re you?” I asked respectively. Martin and Brian built The Beatles up, it was the least I could do. Plus he’s not around as much as Brian is so we don’t joke around with him much.

“I’m lovely! Just making some big new years plans. And how’re you two?”

“Great.” Destiny said for both of us, smiling. Trying to win over Martin most likely.

“Well good. Now let’s talk location!”

“We were thinking ‘bout doing it at the house.” John said.

“Yet we’re only renting it now, plus if reporters do come. We don’t want them to know where we’re stayin’. They’re ‘round enough, yeah?” Paul said, seemingly tense about this whole ‘new years party.

“How about some night club then?”

“That should work. I’m not that picky.” George told Mr. Martin.

“How about you Paul? Does that seem to work?”

“Maybe we should do it in a nicer one or just do it at a convention type place.”

“Sure. I’m thinking about the one on Belgrave Square? I’ll just have to call and see if it’s open. Excuse us, while we do that.” Brian said, stepping in and taking George Martin into the back room.

“I didn’t know there’d be a New Years Eve party.” Destiny said.

“Neither did we!” George said laughing “It was planned out today.”

“Ay’ you said it’d be a good idea.” Ringo said, lighting a cigarette.

“It is a good idea, ye can even invite yer sisters and brothers Georgie.” Paul said, patting a seat beside him for me.

“It’s such last minute though,” George said, sighing “And Pattie’s gonna want to bring all ‘er friends. Not a good mix if ye ask me.”

“And why’s that?” Destiny asked, I smiled sadly at her. Knowing it wasn’t a good topic, but he brought it up and he’ll go on now, since someone helped start the fire.

“Because. Me family had to work for what we got, and it’s not like that with ‘er or her friends. And yeah, I’ve got what I want now, but I worked for it too. It’s not like that with them. They don’t understand it. And that’s good because I don’t understand how they live either. I’m afraid they’d disapprove.”

“You could always not invite Pattie.” John offered, blowing out smoke. And before George could say anything else the office door opened.

“How’d it go Brian?” Ringo asked.

“No luck. We’re on the phone with that place on Berkeley Square and we need an answer. Yes or no?”

“Yes.” Paul told him and he went back into the office, closing the door behind him.

“Do you think that’s the best choice?”

“Course I do. That’s what I wanted in the first place.” Paul said, winking at me.

“We’ve got the place!” Martin said, coming out of the room grinning. “Now give us the list for all the people you want to be there.”

**************

Today is December 30th, one day till the party and Paul’s been booked up. I haven’t seen him once, and I’m sure Donna’s seen him more often than I have! Considering the fact that they left together one day, with no explanation. Though she came back an hour later and promised it was something about John… I had to wonder.

In the two days of preparation we had for the event, today’s the day we’ve decided to get our clothes for the party. Donna, Destiny and I set off for one of our favorite boutiques that we all seemed to have in common. Comparing 1963 to now is so odd… In less than 36 hours it’ll be 1965, which is completely taboo to even start thinking about. I walked in, in a bit of a daze till Destiny snapped me out of it.

“What color should I wear?”

“Probably a darker red or purple, maybe even blue. It’d make yer eyes pop.” I told her, fingering through the dress, till I found a velvet purple-sienna colored dress. “This, it’d look perfect on you.”

“That’s gorgeous. I love it.”

“Then try it on!”

“Well, I want to help you find some, this.” She said, picking up a satin navy blue dress, I looked at it, it was amazing.

“Okay! Let’s go help Donna.” I said and walked over to where she was. Destiny following behind.

“What color you guys?” She asked, holding a red dress to her, then a green.

“Green. Red makes your eyes look dark and clashes.” Destiny said, making Donna nod approvingly. We searched the store longer and tried on tons of dresses but we ended up staying with our original picks.

On the ride home we talked about tomorrow night. It was a very big deal, John’s aunt and Ringo’s mum and step-dad would be coming! Even Paul’s dad would be coming, we weren’t sure about Angela but it was still exciting.

“Are they playing?” Destiny asked.

“I think they’ll be at the beginning, but definitely not through-out the night!” Donna said, laughing.

“That’d be god awfully. They already spend most of their time doing so.” I added in which was true, but then again they’re international music stars, so I give them credit.

“I think they’ll be taking time off sooner or later.” Donna said, winking at me.

We spent the rest of the day shopping around and hanging out. I was very excited for the new year and I guess so was everyone else, rushing around London, in and out of stores. When we got home later that evening Paul, John, Ringo and George were all in a deep discussion, which seemed to become a normal thing. The three of us rushed upstairs, getting prepared for the next day.

“Goodmorning Beautiful.” Paul said, stirring me awake. I smiled sleepily at him as he kissed my cheek. “Have I ever told you how lucky I am to have you?”

“Not enough,” I joked kissing him, but when I pulled away he was pouting. “I’m joking Paul, if anything… Too much.”

“Well I am, and I love you.”

“Yer in quite a good mood this morning. Why’s that?”

“Because, in less than fourteen hours it’ll be 1965, it’s a new beginning. Plus I’ll be getting to spend time with me girl, friends and family formally.”

“Well I’m glad yer excited. When are we leaving?”

“I’m leaving at five, I’m helping Brian with a few last minute things. There’ll be a car coming for you and the girls at eight or nine I think.”

“Can’t I come with you?” I whined.

“Nope, no way. Strictly private.”

“Strictly private, hm? You make me think that there’s something going on between Brian and you!”

“No way. It’s John, remember. We’ve talked about this.” Paul says jokingly and kisses my head. “I’ll ‘ave to be getting ready soon though.”

“Can’t we spend our last day in 1964 together?”

“We will. But later tonight, plus we’ve got time till five. But I hate to say it, it’ll mostly be me getting ready.”

“Why’d we plan this so late?”

“Obviously it was to stress you and Brian out.” Paul joked.

But it was true, once Paul was gone the pressure was on. Pattie had hired someone to come do my hair and after almost an hour of resisting I was to tired to fight back anymore. But I defiantly protested as they tried to put any kind of makeup on me, I of course won that battle. At 9:00 there was a car outside to pick Donna, Destiny and I up. Pattie had gone with another friend.

“Are you excited?” Donna asked, smiling.

“For the new year? Sure. Holds a lot of new potential.” I told her.

“Like what? What’re your plans?”

“I haven’t made any for sure plans. I know I want to stay with Paul. But how ‘bout you and Ringo? Since yer asking me.”

“Maybe to come out as an actual couple.”

“Hopefully John and I find a way to, it’d be nice, maybe my family would ask me when I’d get an ‘actual’ boyfriend.” Donna said with a laugh

'“We could hold a Beatles Boyfriends strike?”

“My friend did that when she found out I was going to see Ringo and George wasn’t too interested anymore..”

“What? Something happened with George and yer friend while me and Paul were gone.”

“A lot happened… That night… with them.” Donna said and I nodded, understanding exactly what she meant.

“Well Ringo chose you, so congrats. He’s a real nice lad.”

“I know! I’m really excited, this is my first new years with him… And you guys! So I feel really lucky.” Destiny said.

“We’re here!” Donna said, and she was right. We were standing right outside from the building. The drive took a little less than an hour so it was approaching nine. Once I walked in, we were met by lots and lots of people. Keith and Mick were the first to appear to us and say hello.

“How’s Paul treatin’ ya?”

“Great.” I said, then noticed Destiny standing shyly in the corner. “Keith, Mick, I’d like you guys to meet Destiny.”

“Nice to meet you, Destiny.” Mick said, kissing her hand and winking at her.

“Hey, she off limits. Ringo is her boyfriend.”

“How come them Beatles are always getting the pretty birds first?”

“Oh, don’t worry!” Donna said, I think she still had a crush on them. “Once yer band takes off, you’ll ‘ave girls crawling up and down yer legs.”

“That sounds quite painful.” John said, interrupting our conversation and putting a defensive arm around Donna. It made me wonder where my own boyfriend was. No where in sight, was the answer.

“We were talking about his band.” Destiny said

“Ah yes, I remember that time! I ‘ad Emily and Donna crawlin’ up me own legs. But Emily settled for Paulie.”

“That is a lie! I thought you were a conceded jerk and down right pig.” I said, obviously joking.

“And what do you think now?”

“That nothing has changed.” I said, making everyone, including myself and John start to laugh. I then walked away from the little group, searching for my boyfriend but I quickly found his dad. “Hi Mr. McCartney.”

“I told you, call me Jim.”

“Hi Jim.”

“ ’ello Emily, happy new year.”

“Happy new year to you too. How was the Honey Moon, and yer Christmas?”

“Just great, I’m glad I got to spend it with Angela, Ruth and Mike.”

“Ruth?”

“Yes. Oh! I forgot to tell you all about Ruth; she’s Angela’s daughter and I’ve officially adopted her. She’s very young, but I’ve never had a girl so that’s always a new challenge.”

“Well congratulations. I’m very happy for you.”

“Thank you, it’s just a shame she couldn’t come.”

“Well then tell her I said hi,” I said awkwardly. I can barely hold conversations with my own family this well, I started backing away, trying to get out of the conversation. “Do you happen to know where Paul is?”

“No, I don’t. But he told me if I saw you to meet him backstage. But that was over half an hour ago.”

“Well thank Jim. I’ll go look for him.” I said and escaped to the back of the stage. Luckily it wasn’t as awkward as it couldn’t been. But still awkward. I made my way to the backstage and I got grabbed from behind.

“Emily!” Paul said quickly, as I began thrashing around. I don’t like when people grab me from behind.

“Paulie? Oh my God, you almost gave me a heart attack.” I said, trying to catch my breath. He pouted his lips at me and scooped me into his arms, I giggled feeling the all too familiar butterflies that have became almost permanent.

“Hey, you wanna see why I picked this place?” Paul asked, secretively.

“Of course.” I said, then he took my hand and led me up a flight of swirl stairs and onto a little balcony. “This is why?” I asked, yet he just shook his head and pulled a string attached to the top of the roof, pulling down a small set of stairs that we went up, and out on the roof.

“Paulie this is beautiful.” I said as we sat down on the roof shingles. And it really was breath taking. There was a full moon that night and not a single cloud in sight. The stars were so clear and there were so many of them in the sky like you could reach out a grab one. I leaned into Paul taking in the beautiful sight.

“All these stars are shinning just for you.” Paul whispered, sending chills down my back.

“Somehow. We always end up on a roof.” I said laughing, remembering last year.

“Yeah, but hopefully we won’t ‘ave to sleep up ‘ere.”

“I’d probably roll off.”

“Stop exaggerating.” Paul said, laughing at me. “Yet I could imagine that.”

“Ta, Paul, ta.”

“I’m kidding love! You know I’d be heart broken if anything every happened to you.”

“Oh Paul,”

“No I’m serious. I’d probably quit music.”

“If something happened to me, that’d be me last wish.” I said in all honesty.

“Paul, Emily. Are you up here?” A voice said from below. We didn’t begin to move, we actually tried to stay as still as possible thinking they’d leave. But once we heard foot step up the small roof steps we knew we were caught. “Paul? Emily?” George’s voice said, then his head popped up. “Oh! Thank God there you guys are.” George said, blowing smoke straight up.

“We’re going on in five.”

“I thought we were going on at eleven?”

“It’s Five till.” George said.

“Wow. How long ‘ave we been out here?”

“Long enough to miss The Rolling Stones play.”

“Mick’s band?” I asked, Paul and George nodded. “Well then. I guess we better get going yeah?” I asked, Paul and George agreed and we went down the steps towards the stage. While The Rolling Stones finished, and were coming off, the curtain closed, so they could set up. I took this as my cue to leave.

“Good luck.” I said to Paul, kissing him on the lips. “Like you’ll ever need it.” And then I went off stage, regrouping with Destiny and Donna who were also leaving.

“They were awesome!” Donna whisper-yell-cried.

“Too bad Emily didn’t get to see, nor here them! They sounded exactly like American Rock’n’Roll.”

“Man, I feel bad. Paul and John love that kind of stuff.”

“Our teddy boys.” Donna swooned.

“Friends, Family, loved ones. I’d like to introduce the one and only Beatles!” Brian said, the whole place starting clapping as the curtains went back and they started singing ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. The whole placed roared, everyone started dancing and singing. Then after a lot of songs the boys stopped playing and Paul started speaking.

“This is a song, that will hopefully be on our new LP. It’s called It’s Only Love and John Lennon wrote it,” Paul said, making everyone clap. “It’s a song about falling in love, when you didn’t even know you were in it. Because before you could even realize, you’ve already fit the ground.” Paul said, starring at me, using the words he’d said not to long ago to me. Donna and Destiny went into a fit of giggles as the boys started singing.

“I get high when I see you go by

My oh my

When you sigh, my, my inside just flies

Butterflies

Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?

It's only love and that is all

Why should I feel the way I do?

It's only love, and that is all

But it's so hard loving you

Is it right that you and I should fight

Every night?

Just the sight of you makes nighttime bright

Very bright

Haven't I the right to make it up girl?

It's only love and that is all

Why should I feel the way I do?

It's only love, and that is all

But it's so hard loving you

Yes it's so hard loving you, loving you”

John sang and everyone clapped. I felt stuck in my spot but kept clapping, it’s one of those filler songs, yet you can tell that it was something he didn’t have to think about to come up with and it made my cheeks hurt. From grinning so much.

“That was great!” I said to Paul, kissing him as he picked me up and spun me.

“Thank you love. I told ye, yer me good luck charm.” Paul said, winking at me and hugging me again. “I’ll be right back, let me go get changed.”

I watched everyone around me, and was quickly handed a drink by Donna. “Are you havin’ a good time?”

“The best.”

“A lot better than last year?” Destiny asked, Donna and I laughed but she gave us a confused look. “What?”

“Last new years was… Kind of weird…” I said. “But that’s when Donna and John got together!”

“No! I didn’t say yes till on the 2nd and I tell everyone that.” Donna said rolling her eyes jokingly.

“Well they kissed at midnight!”

“I’m excited to kiss Ringo at Midnight!”

“It’s getting down there. Fifteen more minutes! I wonder where they are?” I said impatiently. I’d hate to start the new years off without them.

“There’s George, John and Ringo!” Destiny said, waving them over. “But no Paul…”

“I’m sure he’s somewhere.” Donna said sadly, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. Just then, the lights dimmed and a spot light shone up on the stage.

“Um?” I asked confused, but the guys looked as confused as me, except for John. “Where’s Paul?”

“Ladies and Gentlemen,” Paul’s voice echoed through-out the building. John pointed up towards the stage smirking at me. “Can I please ‘ave Emily come up on the stage?” Too which I got pushed up here. “You’re all invited here tonight to celebrate the new year and because you’re important, you should start your new year off with important people.” Paul said, smiling at me. The whole crowd looking at us, silently, watching and waiting. Some people were snapping quick photos, even Donna.

“And that’s why…” Paul said, getting down on one knee, chills ran down my back and tears started to sting my eyes. “I want you Emily Gracelyn Clay to start the new years off with me, being my fiancée. Will you do the pleasure of marrying me?” Paul asked, showing a beautiful ring off in a box. My throat felt dry as I began to cry.

“Y-yes Paul.” I said, making the hold crowd cheer. Paul slipped the ring on my finger and picked me up, spinning me around, kissing me and putting me back down.

“I’m so happy. I love you so much.” Paul whispered, wiping a stray tear away from my cheek.

“10..! 9...! 8...! 7..!” The crowd begin to count down, Paul and I followed cheering out numbers “3...! 2...! 1...! HAPPY NEW YEARS!” They all yelled, but Paul and I were engulfed with each other. A new year, a start of something new. By this time next year I’ll be Mrs. McCartney. Chills ran down my back. What more could I ask for? I was in love and engaged with him. Life couldn’t get better.

“I love you Emily.” Paul said, kissing me once again.

“And I love you too, Paul.” I said.
