Chapter 3

Toby let out a grunt as he hit the ground, having just climbed the picket fence of the house of his victim. The bag of papers landed next to him with a thump, which was followed by a scream. He raised his head in confusion. Bags scream?

A chuckle left his throat as he got to his feet; no, it was (Y/N). She must have just returned to her room, only to find it practically empty. He picked up the sack of papers, swinging it over his shoulder as he pulled his hood further over his head.

"A-A-Aight..." He stuttered to himself, "T-Time to hea-ad back..."

The boy started walking, his head ticking to the side, before what sounded like yelling caught his attention. He stopped in his tracks, glancing back at the fence he had climbed over. What was going on?

Cautiously, he made his way back to the wooden wall, setting the bag of papers down and grabbing onto the top. Once his head was peaking over the white wood, he caught sight of the girl's room.

(Y/N) was currently sitting on her bed, her hands over her face and knees drawn to her chest. Her family were all in her room, or Toby assumed so, as all he could see was an older woman holding onto the arm of a rather thickset man. Were they her parents?

Toby ran his gaze over the stocky male, seeing a face that looked like it hadn't smiled in a long time. He was talking to the girl in front of him, something in his features screamed 'stern'. Was he lecturing her? Toby tilted his head, before making his way back over the fence and rushing to the side of the house. He was close enough now that he could hear a select few words from the older male.

"... No reason to scream... Just paper... Get a life..."

Toby huffed to himself, this sounded all too familiar.

"... You're useless... Get a job... Maybe grow up..."

A spark of something ignited in Toby's chest, and he found himself gripping onto his hatchets. No one is useless. How could a father say that to his daughter?

The silence told him that neither (Y/N)'s mother or brother were doing anything about this. Where they really letting that asshole degrade their family member like that?

He was about to stand, to run to the window and smash it, but a chill went up his spine and he shivered. The cold never bothered him, so he instantly knew it was Slenderman telling him to get home now. But he stayed in that spot, glaring at the window.

-That is none of your concern, you did what you were sent to do. Return to the mansion- Slender said in his mind, there was a sound of irritation to his tone, and Toby gave a nod. What was he going to do anyway? Sheathing his hatchets, he hurried back over the fence, grabbed the bag, and ran back into the woods.

~~~
A week had passed since Toby had been sent on that mission. For some reason, it was stuck in his mind. The girl in front of the computer, clearly invested in something to the point of ignorance. Her father, who was demeaning in every way, and still sent a feeling of rage through Toby's body.
He was currently sitting on the couch, trying to take his mind off it. He wasn't even sure why her father was getting to him. Why should he be fretting over it? Her life was none of his business. And yet here he was, wishing he could have shoved his fist through that guy's jaw.
No one should be told they're useless.
Smile.Dog let out a yawn, currently curled up against Toby's side lazily as the boy flicked through the TV channels. He glanced down at the ever-smiling husky, before patting him on the head.
"Wh-Where's Jeff, huh?" He asked. Usually Smile was glued to Jeff's side, the only time he came to Toby was if Jeff was out, "K-Killing p-p-people?"
Smile huffed, before laying his head back in Toby's lap, his tail thumping against the couch. The boy chuckled, before turning his attention back to the television. He let out a sigh, there was never anything good on anymore.
A figure appeared in front of him, tall and thin. Static filled the boy's vision, but it didn't phase him. Smile.Dog let out a whine, scratching at his ears, before he jumped up and ran out of the room. Slenderman's static was always a problem for him.
"Y-Yes Boss?" Toby asked as the static died down, he raised his head to his monstrous leader, "Wh-What's up?"
"It's (Y/N) again." The slender figure stated, his arms behind his back. His blank face looked frustrated, however that was possible, "She's back to her research."
"O-Oh..." He tilted his head, he couldn't help but feel something stir, "A-Are you sending me ba-a-ack?"
There was a moment of silence, as if Slender was currently studying him. It was the first time Toby had ever felt really intimidated by his silence, usually he could brush it off, but there was something in the air this time. Tension? Hesitation?
"Yes..." His boss finally said, "I feel as though our... Fan... Didn't get the message. I want you to go back there, remove her notes, and leave one yourself. Warn her that if she does it again, we will take things further."
The boy ticked, tilting his head up to the boss, "B-B-But wouldn't that... Re-eveal us...?"
Another silence, Slender rubbed his head almost sheepishly; Toby felt almost proud to have been smarter than his boss. It was a very rare occasion. In fact he was glad he was wearing his mask, it stopped Slenderman from seeing his shit-eating grin.
Slender tilts his head, picking up on Toby's smugness. A feeling of nausea ran over the boy and he let out a mumbled 'S-Sorry...'
"I suppose that would raise her suspicion..." The taller figure then said, tapping a clawed finger to his chin, "Perhaps we should leave a different message..."
"I-I could smash her l-l-laptop..." Toby suggested, "Th-That's where she g-gets the info fro-om..."
Slender nodded, the only sign of approval Toby ever received from his boss, as he folded his arms back behind his back.
"Get it done." He said, before he disappeared.
Toby let out a sigh, before turning the TV off. So she was still interested in Slender's stories, even after she lost everything?
Smile.Dog walked back into the room, smiling up at Toby and tilting his head.
"S-Sorry boy, du-duty calls." The boy pat the dog's head, before heading out of the mansion.
That feeling that had been stirring in Toby's chest returned, and the boy smiled to himself. Now he had a reason to check in on that asshole father, and for some reason, he couldn't wait to see (Y/N) again.
This will be fun.
Ahhhh sorry, this chapter is like sorta short and it felt shitty, but I got what I wanted on the page, and even more! So I'm relatively happy with it.
One way of knowing I'm in writers block, is the writing will seem to lack emotion. You may notice some chapters are full of characters feeling things, noticing things, reacting to things. In some chapters (much like this one) it's straight to the point, all action and dialogue and no emotion, no description.
Although I still think this chapter is good (compared to others). I got some of the emotions, and have set the plot into play... Can you guess what's going to happen? No? Then I guess you'll find out sooner or later!
Anyway, that's all for now, I'll see you in the next chapter!
RJ Out!!!
