Controlled Heroes Chpt. 5
The next morning, I met Toosk at the edge of the cliff that was above the headquarters.
"I can't believe this. We're going in here...again," I groaned at the view.
"Don't worry, nothing bad happened last time, so nothing bad should happen this time since we practically know know our way in there," Toosk told me, trying to calm me down.
I turned to face him sharply. "You said that nothing bad happened last time? Last time I went in there--" I pointed to the bottom of the cliff. "--I almost got strangled to death!"
He crossed his arms and rose his eyebrows. "Well, this time you won't since Mitty's with Wayne. 'Kay?"
I narrowed my eyes. "Okay...let's get this over with." I sat on the edge and slid down the rocky cliff to the headquarters with Toosk.
"Alright, now let's be quiet. No noises..." He cautiously walked over the white building and up the steps. He opened the glass doors and peered inside. He then looked behind his shoulder to see me and gave me the signal to come with him.
I jogged over to him and jumped up the steps of the building, making noises.
"Shhh!!! You're gonna give us away!" Toosk hissed.
"Sorry, I'm not some ninja." I passed by him into the building.
We walked around the empty, white hallways, only hearing our footsteps.
"This is interesting...the guys who are usually outside around this time aren't outside...," I muttered.
Toosk gazed at me. "That's good...make it easier to get through."
I frowned with suspicion. "But I mean, doesn't it seem a bit fishy? Out of all the days, they decide to take a day off--"
"Captain, shut up. You're making it seem like this is a bad idea!" He gave me the motion to shut up with his hand in front of my face.
"That's what I'm tryin' to get across--this is a bad ide--" I stopped talking when I heard footsteps coming our way. "Shoot, someone's here," I whispered.
"Follow me!" Toosk grabbed my wrist and began to drag me towards a nearby door; he suddenly collapsed onto the floor, bringing me along to the cold, tile floor.
I groaned as I lifted myself off from the ground with my hands and knees; I shot Toosk a stern look. "What the hell? Why'd you fall?"
"Ack...my head..." Toosk was in a child's pose with his hands on his hair.
"What about your head?"
"Captain...I think we have visitors...," he managed to grunt to me.
I looked behind me. There was a guy that looked like he was in his teens with orangish/blond hair, piecing through me with his cold, blue eyes.
He took lighter from his pocket and lit it. He placed the flame on his hand and his hand bursted into flames. He slipped the lighter away and gave his other hand the fair share of the fire. Then, he shot a streak of fire at me with his hand extended out toward me.
I pushed Toosk and myself out of the way, tumbling to the other side of the hallway. I grabbed my gun from my holster desperately and began to shoot at him in defensive, still on the ground. I never missed him, but it seem like my bullets were doing no harm to him. "Toosk!" I yelled. "Help me!!!"
"--Can't!" he spat out in pain.
"Forget about your stupid headache and get your--" My sentence got cut by a huge ember ball of hitting me square in the chest. Shoot, I'm dead, was all I could think of.
But I wasn't. Protecting me was an blue coloured energy shield. What the? I don't have this type of power. I looked ahead and saw that it was Tuukka who was protecting me. Neat. He finally got his act together.
I saw Toosk getting up slowly, facing the flame guy in courage. "Cole?"
A sly smile grew on Cole's face. "Yea?"
"Pierre!" Tuukka yelled. "Listen to me!"
"Ei!" No!
Then once again, Toosk was tumbled back on the ground, having his headache; the force field flickered and disappeared from in front of me. So I made a shaky connection that Cole makes Toosk have headaches.
Another guy then sauntered into the scene from behind Cole. Nicely groomed brown hair with some facial hair and also cold, blue eyes. What's up with the blue eyes? He swaggered over to me and loomed down on me to make eye-contact.
"Who are you?" the new guy asked me as Cole walked up to him, halting next to him.
"Who, me?" I pointed to myself.
"Yea, you-- Who are you?"
"Errr...Captain...Holt...?"
"Come with me." The guy made a motion with his hand, telling me to come to him.
"No," I automatically said.
"No?" The guy cocked an eyebrow.
"Why do you want me to come?" I held my gun at him and Cole, giving me comfort.
"You'll see...if you come."
I looked to my right at Toosk to see if he says it's okay. It seemed like he no longer was experiencing his headache since he was too focus edging towards the two guys with his gun pointing at him by army crawling to get behind them. I don't want to leave him...but would he also join me?
"Is Toosk coming as well?" I asked.
"Oh yea, that's who I really want to see." He smiled insidiously.
"What's your--" I immediately felt like the room was tilting slighting and the floor was bouncing out at me; then it stopped as fast as it started. "What the hell was that?" I asked.
"Shoot, it didn't work," the guy muttered to himself.
"I can burn him," Cole told the guy.
"Heck no, we don't want to kill him...I just wanted to control him... There's something different about him...," he mumbled, rubbing his chin with inquiring eyes.
"Try again."
I did not want him to succeed. "No!" I cocked my gun and was about to pull the trigger when they both disappeared in a blue streak.
"Did it!" Toosk was spread out on his stomach on the ground in relief with his right hand as a gun. "Got rid of them."
I stared at him. "For good?"
Toosk shrugged as he got up to his feet with a groan. "I dunno. With Pierre controlling them, I doubt it. He knows everything about what he made."
I made a bewildered. "Wait what? That was not Pierre, Mjalmersson. That headache must've done a number on you because now you think that those dudes were Kari--"
"No, no, no, Captain, you don't get it." Toosk held out his left hand and I held onto to it; he helped me up to my feet. "That was Pierre since he has mental powers."
"Ohhh...yikes, that's scary." I began to walk towards the exit with him. "Do you know those guys, though, or were they just random, unfortunate strangers?"
"Oh, I do know those guys--the fire guy was Cole, Cole Lannon. And the other guy was...Erik Leifsson, how I would use to call him by: Lace."
