Extended Summary:

In the ancient elven kingdom Doriath, young Thranduil meets Aerneth, the elf who will become Legolas' mother. Wars rage around them as they fight their own battles, shadowed by Oropher, Thranduil's dominant father.

A stand-alone prequel to my Legolas fic Riding With the Elves, Thranduil's Shadow is a saga of desire, power and love, that follows Thranduil from a young, shy elf until he becomes the cold and majestic Elvenking known from The Hobbit. Revolving around his and Aerneth's complicated marriage, it will also explore many of the important events in Tolkien's Silmarillion through his eyes, beginning in the First Age and continuing through the history of Middle-earth. It will partly be an angsty tale but there will be redemption and a happy ever after eventually.

Warnings: Light sex scenes (can be skipped), parental abuse, canon typical battle scenes, suicide (implied), minor canon character death, in a few instances also graphic injuries and blood.
