Chapter 1 - Mr. President

Tod was a very handsome boy, but he was not the most handsome boy in high school. He had brown eyes, hair lined up like those of big business owners, with a neatly trimmed cheek, thin but striking face, lips well outlined with an almost rosy hue.

He was thin, 17 old and a high school student, he loved music, and besides, of course, being the class president and representative of the language group. He could speak: English, Portuguese, Spanish and a little French but he never had a girlfriend because his concern was school.

It all started on a day that had everything to be completely normal like everyone else in Tod's life. He woke up and did everything he was accustomed to: bathing, clothing, shoes, backpack, breakfast and waiting for a bus to school , greeted some of the neighbors he saw on the way and stood at the spot waiting for the bus.

As he got on the bus, the driver greeted him and continued on. He then focused his mind on finding a quiet place, since it would take a little while to get to school. He was walking the bus looking for a place, but everyone seemed busy, yet his eyes flashed when he noticed a place in the background.

As he was approached, realized that the place did not appear to be empty, that is to say, not entirely. Someone was in the next seat. It was a boy, but not any boy, it was Henrie. A boy who did not go much with anyone's face, at least that's what they said. He was one of the leaders of the college council along with Tod, and a representative of the college letters club. But he always conflicted with tod's decisions in the council.

He was taller than Tod by a few inches, but it made a rather sizable difference. He was 18 years old and was from a class up. His face was very handsome, cheekbones demarcated,  jaw nearly drawn, hair curly and black, with huge, bulky curls, almost falling to his eyes, which, by the way, were light brown.

He simply noticed Tod's presence, looked deep into his eyes for a few seconds and put his briefcase on his lap paying no attention and turning back to the window.

Tod simply stared back at him, nodded as if to thank him for picking up his briefcase and clearing the place and sat down with a little fear. He began to remember everything he had heard about Henrie, how he had treated a fast-food clerk badly, argued with the principal for a suspension because of quarrels, and several confusions involving his name, but Tod knew that there were many gossip at school and decided not to think about it.

The ride to school seemed like an eternity that day, and Tod would look impatiently at his watch, checking every second. Henrie saw it and decided to ignore it, but Tod would not stop until he decided to say something because of his frustration:

"We'll be late for that!" He exclaimed, puffing and insisting on looking at his watch as if he wanted time to freeze.

He did not get any response, but did not expect to get it either, since his indignation was not brought to that end. It was not long before the bus had parked in front of the school and before Tod could think about getting up Henrie had already got up and was now passing in front of Tod. But before he could finish his ticket, the bus gave a small start, since the bus was not in good condition causing Henrie to fall on Tod's lap without expression and facing him.

The time at that moment seemed to have frozen on Tod's watch. They stared at each other for a few seconds without expressing any reaction, only the heartbeats that were accelerated by the moment of fright until they realized what had happened.

Henrie was the first to notice the situation rising from Tod's lap with anger and pushing him as if it were all his fault. He came out saying something that sounded like a curse, but Tod was too numb to notice. He got up later and realized that the bus had already emptied and only the driver staring at him waiting for him to get off. He noticed that scene and went to school still trying to understand everything that happened.

At school he had several classes, but it did not seem at the best moment to understand what was going on in them, he could only think of what had happened on the bus. Why did the boy hate him so much? He began to wonder about his own personality and could not remember about any time when he had treated it badly or something like that.

Classes seemed to fly and by the time he realized he was already on the board of college leaders discussing the disciplines that should be reinforced by teachers in relation to the class grade. His mind searched for only one place, Henrie's chair, but there was no one and wondered where he should be. He sighed and looked at his watch and nothing came of it until it was interrupted by one of the counselors.

"TOD! TOD! Are you ok?" Asked Rosie, the chairwoman of the photography group.

"Yes... Yes!" He said between stutterers meeting her eyes.

"Are we asking what you think of the bathroom policy project?" She asked.

"Actually, you can vote alone, I'm going home now, I'm not feeling well," He said, gathering his things and heading toward the door without paying any attention to what she or the other presidents were asking.

When he opened the door his vision was blocked by a blue shirt of buttons. His eyes then rolled up and met Henrie's eyes. His body seemed to paralyze, he felt a mixture of hatred and doubts invade his mind, but his sad countenance still showed something that Henrie could not have missed, and before he could say a word Tod almost nearly ran him over as he left the room.

Henrie only followed him with her gaze, seeing Tod disappear on the first bend.

Tod came home snorting without talking to anyone, just went upstairs, threw his things on the floor, took off his shoes and threw himself on the bed in anger, and from so much thinking he fell asleep.

He woke up a few hours later. He was hungry, but before he looked for something to eat, he decided to check the cell phone and to his surprise when the cell phone came on there was a message and his eyes almost burned as he read the notification. Angrily tossed the cell phone away and went back to sleep even if hungry.

In the notification of the message it was written:

"Hi, Tod, how are you? It seemed to be sad to leave the room, I wanted to know if everything was okay, I hope so. Good evening. - Henrie."
