{Twenty-One}

The next few days are peaceful at home, while at the bakery Sam and Robin finish the cake, needing to get the cake prepared for transport. Spencer listens as his boyfriend goes over plans, paying careful attention to any mention of needing to attend the party. Robin and Sam will be required by their boss to make sure the cake is delivered on time, in one piece, and to cut slices for the guests in an attempt to bring more attraction to the bakery. Spencer puts together a plan to go along with them, craving to watch over Sam. He has put out the best outfits for them, having gone through Sam's dresser without permission to dig out clean, dress pants.

Sam wasn't upset at finding Spencer going through his things, once given an explanation he had simply let his boyfriend be. Finding it cute the youtuber takes such interest in his job and wants to tag along, that he's picking out Sam's clothes. The puppy boy doesn't notice the increasing signs of possessiveness in Spencer; trying to isolate which gender he interacts with, staying at his side and how he invites himself wherever Sam goes. The baker merely sees a cute boyfriend, not having real life experiences with toxic behaviors or red flags to be overly aware of them.

Spencer had finally gotten Sam to listen, trained decently enough to serve when asked. He had told Sam to get them snacks one night in his apartment while gathering movies on the table, and the baker had not hesitated to do as commanded. Blushed prettily at the good boy he received. Whatever Spencer demands, Sam plays fetch for him without a single complaint, taking great pleasure in bringing his boyfriend specific items rather than automatically doing it himself.

He always gets praise and rewards, little kisses and hugs, small shoulder massages. Sam finds he likes cooking in Spencer's home, is able to prepare homemade meals for both of them and feeding the man gives him such a primal sensation of happiness that he wants to keep doing it. He is spending much more time he realizes, in Spencer's home rather than his own. He finds he doesn't mind, recognizing the familiar feeling of safety and comfort when he walks in just as stepping into his own apartment. Alarmingly quickly, Spencer's house is turning into a second home for Sam and the dogs. A fact that pleases the older man to no end.

Spencer had finally convinced Sam to let him tag along to the grocery store as well, keeping tight hold on the kart and one of Sam's hands. He kept mostly quiet and watched as Sam had fun going down isles for ingredients, making playful comments here and there with innocent touches that plainly mark Sam as his to surrounding people. He made sure to buy groceries for his kitchen, asking Sam for meals they could make together and things he could cook for Spencer. That appeared to make Sam light up, delighted at more opportunities to cook and serve the older man.

The redhead had spent more than he had ever on food at the store, now his refrigerator and cabinets are filled to near bursting with fresh ingredients or spices and other things he has never bought or used before. This means he can get Sam to stay over more and make use of the food. His puppy knows he can't figure out the advanced recipes and will need to serve him meals to help get rid of the perishable foods. He'll be more than happy to do that.

No one had seemingly recognized Spencer in the store or around the town, if they did they're playing by his rules to leave him alone. Sam hasn't had anything odd happen on his phone, the youtuber checks and knows nothing on the device is vulnerable to his viewers. With this knowledge, Spencer relaxes slightly from being on edge with the possibility of someone hurting his boy. He knows Sam may not be in danger of someone harming him physically, more mentally or emotionally, but the man won't take any chances.

Anyone who makes his puppy feel horrible in any type of way, won't be happy once Spencer is finished with them. He'll keep the skittish boy protected with his life and keep him isolated if need be, unafraid of the thought of locking Sam in the apartment or a house with the dogs. In fact, he greatly considers telling Sam to stay put in the man's apartment without needing to work after the day they have at the party.

The day starts out exactly as any other day for them. Spencer wakes up to Sam trying to sneak away out of his bed, dragging himself up and helping his boy make breakfast for them and the dogs. He lets Sam do most of the cooking, cutting in halfway through with a command to get the animals settled with their food. He had expected a fight, Sam is good when asked to do things, but he doesn't like being interrupted when carrying out a request. However, the hyper boy just nodded, gave the older man a kiss on his cheek and bounced over to play around with the dogs and prepare their bowls. He hadn't tried to overtake Spencer afterwards either, merely jumped up on a counter stool and kicked his feet as he watched the man finish up. He gained praise for that, extra bacon and fried potatoes. They had taken the dogs for a walk to the park, stayed for a bit longer then the normal twenty minutes since Sam didn't have classes on a rare occasion.

Getting them dressed for the party at a stock market was stressful for Sam, fussing over if they'll fit in with the employees in the huge building. Telling Spencer of the CEO and his expensive suit with the dangerous air about him, the memory strikes fear into Sam. The older man needs to tug the worried puppy into his arms and hold him for a moment, speaking into his ear to breathe and calm down. Spencer doesn't like the effect this stranger of a CEO has on the baker, the need to accompany him into the party grows to be a priority. Dressing his puppy in the cleanest slacks and newly cleaned bakery shirt was fairly easy, Sam talking a mile per minute about the cake and party in his excitement. It's becoming increasingly obvious to Spencer that Sam is only shy and suspicious of people that he doesn't feel comfortable with, once he's used and content to someone, he can't control his mouth; especially when hyper and excited.

Spencer finds it adorable and listens to everything Sam talks about, even if he had already heard it before. The normally quiet boy gets energetic and it's a pleasant sight to see, no matter how many times the dominant witness's it, it'll always bring him a sense of gaiety. The man doesn't care what the topic is, the energy Sam has when he gushes is enough to attract the olders full attention every time. He can multitask while his puppy goes on a rant, keeping one ear on Sam and his eyes on whatever he is doing. He has before, never missing a beat to respond or make a comment, always giving his boy attention.

Sam appreciates the man listening to his babbling, knowing some would think it's annoying. He delighted that he gave Spencer a chance, that he had allowed himself to change from the lonely human in a dog pack, now he has another human and apparently all the years alone had made him eager to speak. His dog family feels more like a family with two humans teaming to take care of the dogs, they have someone else to keep them company and play with them.

They adore Spencer, being at his home and spreading out of his bigger couches with a movie playing; spoiled as they are. The baker thought he was content being alone only a few months ago, that he didn't need anyone with him - boyfriend or even friend. He is realizing everyday just how much he has needed human interaction on a daily basis. Sam is incredibly exhilarated at waking up to Spencer, being able to laugh and hug the man, serve him and gain that praise he had unknowingly craved all his life.

It's becoming quite clear to Sam that he had needed Spencer, in any way. The younger is overjoyed he had agreed to be his boyfriend, he had never imagined being taken such good care of by another person before, but Spencer does. It makes Sam happy, heart beating faster whenever he gets kissed or hugged. He genuinely sees himself with Spencer, wherever the relationship takes them, he knows he'll be right by the man's side.

Robin meets them at the doors of the bakery, Pamala the owner, right beside him. She's in the middle of firmly telling him what to do, when to do and how to do certain things when she spots Sam and the large redhead. Grinning joyfully and limping on her bad ankle to reach out and hug each of them, her voice revealing just how proud and happy she is. "Oh! I just love seeing my boys reach out! This is such a huge step for the bakery and I wish I could come along to see how it goes!"

Pamala is an older black woman in her mid-sixties, vibrant and cheerful. She doesn't let age drag her down and tries to keep her body strong as she can, running tracks and marathons and keeping to a healthy diet. With plenty of cheat days, of course. The bakery is her pride and joy, loving the smell of pastries and cake, and the process of preparing and working. Hiring Sam and Robin was easy, they both have a passion for baking and put their all into a project. She adores both men, had wished they were closer to each other, yet let them be.

Giving Sam more power over newer additions to the menu was a great choice, more customers and more orders came from him and she couldn't be prouder of him. Them working on this giant cake together was the best, she saw them laughing and smiling, something she had only imagined before. They make a good friendship, the two of them and she hopes they continue working well together. They both need people in their lives, which it seems they're building a small group already. With Spencer with Sam, she had seen a change in the young man and she wished them well, approving of the redhead nearly instantly.

She gathers Sam in a tight hug, turning to Spencer to do the same, laughing at the height difference between them. She pats his scruffy cheek and grins at him, gaining a smile in return. "Young man, I thank you for taking my place and watching over these two. I'd come along, but the doctor orders me to stay home, not that I normally listen but.. well."

She chuckles and makes a vague gesture to the bakery, and the men laugh. She checks her watch and gasps, deep ocean eyes dramatically wide. "Lord! It's almost time for the party to start! Mr. Jackson will be waiting, come on then! Let's get it loaded up!"

She carefully limps back inside the shop, the three men watching attentively to assist her if she loses her balance. Inside, she instructs and watches over as they carry the giant cake through the kitchens, past the counter and cautiously out the door. There's a struggle to get the stand leveled with the van floor, but Spencer gives them the lift they need to settle it safely in the space of the pink bakery van. Robin agrees to stay in the back, just to have someone there in case the road trip bangs the cake up. Spencer drives with Sam next to him, demanding he wear a seatbelt and sit correctly. The puppy had wanted to sit sideways, to look through the small window and keep watch on the cake and Robin.

The trip through town into the busier, populated city only takes half an hour. The traffic was merciful and there were no devastating potholes to toss the cake about, Robin trying his best to keep it as steady as possible. Upon arriving at the towering, glass building Sam feels dread anchor his gut and anxiety pound through his blood. The reflective dark glass is intimidating, metal shadowy and deep grays that only spark fear and mystery into people. The doors of the building are the only bright, clear glass visible on the outside; men and women in tight form fitting suits walk in or out with stacks of papers and briefcases, intent on doing business. The bright pink vehicle with a cupcake on the side is vastly out of place, yet a tall muscle of a man walks from the doors and stops at the passenger window, suit clean and pristine. He has much more muscle mass then the other employees, suggesting he may be a guard for the doors or someone inside, most likely Mr. Jackson, the CEO.

"Mr. Jackson is waiting at the elevator for you. He wants to see the cake and have a chat with you guys. Hurry up." Is all the man says, opening the door for Sam and spooking the anxious baker.

Spencer glares at the man, but pats his boys' thigh and parks the van. Jumping out to open the back door and help Robin start to unload, Sam hurries to assist, trying to ignore the attention they receive and the low whistle from the guard. The man doesn't offer to help, merely holding the doors open for them and guiding them to an elevator on the far end of the lobby, away from the main ones. Must be a private one, Sam thinks vaguely.

Another man is waiting at this elevator, typing away on a phone with an earpiece in his right ear. Sam instantly recognizes this as Mr. Jackson, feeling the same unnerving sensation as the first time they met. The man glances up when his guard grunts at him, waving the man off and allowing his cold brown eyes to study the bakers, Spencer and the cake. He hums, as if only slightly pleased. "Good, you're here. Who's this?"

He directs the question to Sam, pointing to Spencer, the red head grits his teeth and cuts in before Sam. Voice just as cold and blunt, "I'm his boyfriend. Here to help out. Where do you want this?"

Mr. Jackson raises an eyebrow, yet doesn't respond, merely stepping into the metal lift and waving them in with two fingers. Sam winces, glancing between his boyfriend and the CEO. Robin puffs his cheeks out in a stressed sigh, wondering if the red head will be able to keep his temper in check for one day. In an attempt to calm himself, Sam starts speaking about the cake, going over each tier and what flavors there are. The man listens, nodding here and there while looking over what he ordered. His expression stays perfectly haughty, eye's appearingly permanently aloof.

Spencer fights to keep his frosty glares to himself, not wanting to ruin Sam's work by starting fights with the customer. The man's attitude grinds the youtubers own strong attitude, iching to force him to show the nervous boy respect he deserves. Once Sam finishes up the explanation, the CEO nods precisely once. "Perfect. It's exactly as I requested then, and I'm pleased with the design of it. Simple, yet resplendent. The gold accents fit well with this gathering."

Both bakers sigh, bodies releasing a tension at the approval. Worry of getting everything wrong or disappointing the customer gone, spirits lifted with the small praise. Robin had suggested adding gold dust to the piping details, reasoning the cake was for a company that makes millions of dollars and gold is a sign of luxury. Sam agreed, carefully helping to dust gold on with brushes, stepping back multiple times to be certain they didn't add too much. He's pleased and mentally thanks Robin for having the idea, reminding himself to thank his friend as soon as he can. For now, he sends what he hopes is a relief and thankful expression to his baking partner.

The doors open into a huge floor, desks and cubicles filled with people shouting and speaking on phone, papers in hands and computers showing charts. Tv's hang up to reveal any stock markets with spikes with lines or decreases, signs put up that slide names and companies; it reminds Sam of the movies. There's an area by the windows that is free of people and devices, a large table put into places with plates and utensils. Mr. Jackson guides them through the chaos to the area, standing off to the side to allow them to place the cake. The employees watch curiously as they go through and start to set up, Spencer eyeing all the men on the floor as Sam and Robin set out the bakery tablecloth on the table.

Mr. Jackson presses a button by a large wooden door and a loud, shrill alarm sounds for a moment that gathers everyone's attention. The entire room went silent and all eyes on him. Sam had jumped violently at the abrupt noise, instinctively getting closer to Spencer at the unexpected spook and he gained a tight arm curling around his shoulders. The boss speaks to his employees, loud and demanding attention. "In honor of the new company contract to our name, one that has tripled our intake, I wanted to celebrate. Take a moment and eat, I've personally hired this bakery and believe it would be an appropriate treat. Then, get back to work."

Nearly instantly, the table is flooded with men and women wanting slices. Robin and Sam work in sync with each other; Sam cutting, Robin plating and handing paper plates to any one within reach. Spencer stays near Sam, directly behind him and holds out plates for him to put slices on, placing them on the table to lessen the crowd around the other baker. He kisses Sam's hair whenever he feels his boy tensing too much, getting overwhelmed and making sure to keep him calm. He answers simple questions for them, where the bakery is, who baked the cake. He lets Robin do the more depth explanation, not knowing the correct terms to use despite listening to Sam tell Mr. Jackson.

He notices a handful of men continuously glance at Sam, eyeing him like he's a slice of the cake and they're hungry. Spencer simply adds to his innocent kisses, doing more and praising Sam in his ear. Once the rush calms down, he hugs his puppy tightly, glaring at men and raising his eyebrow threateningly at any attempts to flirt that goes over Sam's head. No one out right makes a comment, doesn't plainly and bounty ask him out or make him uncomfortable, but it's enough for Spencer's blood to boil under his skin. Definitely need to rethink locking him away.
