{Twenty-Nine}
The parents love Spencer, they haven't seen through the mostly false act of the man. While Spencer liked certain aspects of the day with Taylor and Mary, it was mainly Sam's hyperactivity and shyness of questions about their relationship that he thought was cute. He did dislike that they asked questions about him, where he is from, where he went to school, and how he ended up in the apartment across from Sam. Of course, the Youtuber answered them vaguely, just enough to please the expression his boy gave him when questioned.
Sam wanted them to like each other, his boyfriend, and his parents, Spencer needed to play along to make the baker happy. Which he had succeeded at. Lunch, or dinner, went well. Mary requested a tour of the house, saying she wanted to good my son has it. Taylor laughed at his wife but stayed downstairs with Spencer while his son showed his mother upstairs. Instead, he rolled about on the first floor, Spencer walked along next to him.
When they got to the office, Taylor looked around at the desk and the set up of computers on side of the room and the other side full of dog beds, blankets, and pillows. He was pleased to see that his son's partner was taking so well to the dogs, glad the animals aren't being mistreated by the man and that they were welcomed in what was a private working area. When told of Spencer's job, Taylor didn't understand what a Youtuber was and wasn't certain if it would sustain a lifestyle for his son. Once Spencer explained he got paid, just like any other job, the father was reassured, only slightly.
Mary was less assured by this, aching to question Sam if he is the one paying for things or if Spencer is "one of those deadbeats who play video games all day." Sam had to swear and promise his mother the Youtuber wasn't like that multiple times in a quiet, explained Spencer was the one who rented the house and helped the baker buy food. The nurse was merely concerned for her son, wanting the best for him. She pulled back when she saw how happy and confident in Spencer he was, this only heightened her liking for the man.
Sam was delighted everyone loved his lasagna, his father and Spencer having seconds or thirds. His mother praised his schooling and job, saying how proud she was that he found what he is great at and what he loves to do. They spoke about his college, the parents worrying over grades, and how the projects go. Encouraging their son to work in a restaurant for the experience, even shadowing a head chef in a high-end building.
Taylor went into the backyard, staying up on the deck to play fetch with the dogs, laughing at all three of them falling over each other. By the end of the day, they were delighted with how far Sam came and how he is doing, going as far as to welcome Spencer into the family. The man grinned a fake grin, giving them a false thank you. Not caring if he's welcomed, just glad they bought his act and they wouldn't be causing problems for him and his boy.
They had visited two weeks ago, leaving the couple to go about more training for Sam. Spencer had started using light necklaces around the baker's neck as a collar, ones that don't hang and cling to the boy's collar bones. Disguising one as a gift to get his boy to wear it, proceeding to carefully tug at it with a stern command to come. Sam was surprised, yet incredibly excited to wear a gift from his boyfriend. He has no clue it's meant as a collar, to bind him to the Youtuber. The first time he was pulled along by the thin chain necklace he was stunned, following any direction he was led around the house in a shocked, confused state.
However, in the guest room, he was rewarded with a good boy and a squeeze to his nape, along with a brownie bite muffin. It felt so good to be praised for simply following that it's been a pleasure to obey at the tug, with and without a command or not. Spencer had even written down a newer rule, don't remove the necklace. Unknown to Sam, his boyfriend is seriously considering adding a tracking charm to the chain. Not caring if it is too much or creepy, he just wants to know where his puppy is when the boy is out alone- doesn't matter how rare that is.
For Sam, the necklace is merely a thoughtful gift. Complete with bakery and paw print charms, he loves it. Only takes it off for showers, wanting to avoid it ruining. Spencer smiles every time he spots the glinting of the necklace chain in the lights of the house, changing with the colors of the LED lights. Purely because he knows it marks the boy as his, people seeing it will assume it's a gift or simply know it's from him depending on who knows Sam well enough. This is to get the baker accustomed to wearing things around his neck, that way it wouldn't be a struggle to get head to a real collar made for power plays.
It won't be long until he introduces a customized collar for Sam, perhaps even ears and tails. For now, the necklace and gentle coaxing into a Headspace will have to do. Since his parents left, Sam has been slowly dropping into a space quicker after work or classes. With the help from Spencer, of course. Trying to keep him in that state or simply caring for him during that time. The older man found that cookies, brownies, or simply sweets, in general, are good snacks for his puppy.
Yet he can't just allow his boy to eat sugar all day, soups and quick warm snacks will do as well. Bites of croutons with Sam's favorite salad dressing are great too, adding in some fresh cheese for him. This makes for a good reward or simply something to snack on slowly while cuddling, even during a play session where Spencer has his boy play fetch with him.
Sam takes great joy in the activity, loving the rewards for obeying commands that Spencer uses to train him to play correctly. The boy knows how the game of fetch goes when he is in a full state of mind, but when he is in a headspace, Spencer has observed that Sam doesn't comprehend the same actions or things. The man is aware that headspaces are very different from person to person, no one will experience the same space. The baker either goes into one lightly, on the edge of his space, or he goes in one deeply. When heavy in his own world, Sam doesn't focus on what he would normally do. So training to fetch helps him to have fun, learn to obey, and allow a stress-free time.
It also allows Spencer the pleasure and joy of caring for the boy, being able to watch over and feed him, gives the man an intense satisfaction of being needed and wanted. The dogs play along as well when Spencer lets them, every one being gentle with Sam, sensing they can't jump or be rough with him. The man only allows them to when he knows they won't be a harm to Sam, most of the time, he lets them outside or takes them upstairs and blocks the stairs. Sam loves when the dogs are around him, they make him much happier and more comfortable.
Tonight, Spencer took the three animals on a car ride to pick up Sam from the bakery. Knowing his boy would love to see the boys as soon as he gets off, they always get his spirit up if he had a slow or bad day. During his break, the baker had sent pictures of him eating and text messages that a rude customer had come in, causing issues for every employee on shift with demands. Pamala needed to kick them out, threatening to call the police when the man refused.
Aware that his boy doesn't take to stressful situations well, Spencer thought the boys should tag along. The bakery is just closing when the man parks the car in front of the building, a stray customer leaves with a child, and a wave to the employees at the counters. Looking into the back seat at the eager dogs, laughing at the excited whines and tail wags - Orthrus wigging his entire hips with his tiny tail nub. Keeping the windows rolled down, up enough to prevent them from jumping out, the man tells them to wait before climbing out of the car and walking into the building. Sam is there instantly, having seen his boyfriend from the window while speaking to his boss, and excused himself to ambush the Youtuber. He gains a laugh from the man, a kiss on his head, and a squeeze to his nape.
"Hey, Spence!" The boy greets, grinning. "Can we go home right now?! I wanna make dinner, I'm starving, even with eating lunch today."
With a chuckle, the taller man agrees easily. "Of course, Baby. There's a surprise in the car and I got another little gift for you at home."
He watches the gray eyes he loves widen at the sentence, the boy suddenly bouncing against the man's firm chest. "What are they?! Can I know?!"
Sam pouts at the head shake he receives, Spencer beginning to guide him from the bakery. "You'll see in the car, and I'll be quick getting home. Promise."
It doesn't take the baker long to see the surprise in the car, the first step out of the glass doors of the building, he hears the barks of his beloved dogs and takes off into a run to the window. Petting them through it and allowing them to kiss his cheeks with long tongues, giggling and laughing at the pure excitement in each greeting. "I missed you guys too!"
Instead of riding in the passenger seat next to his boyfriend, Sam climbs into the back seat directly in the middle of the legs and tails, and noses of the dogs. Allowing them to walk over his thighs, nudge into him, and lay on his lap, petting and speaking to them the whole way home. Being distracted by the dogs and having fun with them makes the ride home seem even faster, to Sam it seems he looks down at Fenrir on his lap and then back up to see they are pulling into the little driveway of the house in a split second. Gathering the leash that connects all the harnesses of the animals, he manages to crawl out first, being dragged behind the group and Spencer to the front door.
Once inside, he removes the harnesses and his hoodie, Spencer hanging each one up for him before grasping his hand and softly pulling him up the stairs to the guest room. The dogs follow them, curious and patiently waiting to get their dinner. Without a word, the man opens the door to the guest room, allowing Sam to step in first. What the boy sees makes him gasp with pure shock and an odd sense of joy. The bed framing has been removed from the room, in its place is the large mattress on a little floating frame that hangs from the ceiling. It's covered in soft blankets and pillows, looking like sleep heaven. The wooden devices that Spencer had are now folded up in a corner. New soft rugs lay on the floor, and another tv is set up on the wall across from the bed. There's a chest full of stuffed animals and plushie desserts, three sitting neatly on the bed; exact copies of the three living dogs in the doorway.
Sam gapes at the room, speechless of how the loose storage along the wall is missing or how clean it is, how warm it feels being done up such as this. The walls aren't painted with a new coat and the hardwood floor is the same, yet there's no dust and big furniture in the way. The bulky bed frame is gone, it had taken up so much space the room felt small. Now, with this new floating one, he realizes the room is quite big. The bed hangs now, nearly on the floor and the urge to lay on it to see if it swings is high.
"You like it?" Spencer questions, guiding the boy further into the room, smirking at the bewildered expression on his face. "Started working it on while you were in class this morning, had to take a break so you wouldn't get curious and come up."
The stuffed animals are brand new, the younger man had never seen them before in the house. He marvels over the cute storage box for them, created to look like a dog head, round with a knitted cover surrounding the structure of it. The lid has adorable long floppy ears and wide eyes, a little black nose, and mouth, pink tongue hanging out. The lid is open to show the stuffed animals inside, yet Sam thinks it fits the room perfectly. Off in a corner behind the bed, and tucked out of the way. It's clear that it is a folded-up cage, a large one at that and it confuses the boy because he had never used cages for his dogs. Hadn't needed to, he is aware cages are useful for training and give the animal a safe place at a time. The boys never needed one, always comfortable on the couch or bed and they weren't around loud noises, weren't ever so scared they hid away.
The sight of a cage does puzzle him, assuming it's for the dogs and unsure why it's in this room instead of the office. Preparing to ask why it's needed and ask to take it back, the animals don't need it, after all, it'd be a waste of money. "Why is there a cage in here?"
Spencer laughs, having prepared for the question since he had placed it in the room this afternoon. "It's not for the dogs if that's what you're thinking. It's just something I thought we'd try eventually, for you, if you'd be comfortable with it. Not now, of course. Later."
Sam goes wide-eyed at the answer, uncertain how to take it. "Me? But-"
"Calm down, Baby. It's not for right now, don't even worry about it." The man rubs the younger's upper arms, kissing the back of his head. "We'll set it up together when you think you're ready to try and we'll sit in it, and see if you'd be comfortable. Later, though. You're still new, no matter how far you've come and I wanna make sure you understand some more things."
Nodding, the baker thinks that is fair enough. He is just preparing, he wouldn't have gotten it if he thought I'd be scared of it. Clearly, he has enough confidence in me to buy one. Smiling, Sam sits on the bed, giggling when it swings lightly. "I can't believe you did this during class and my shift! This bed this amazing! Can we get one for our bedroom?!"
Chuckling, Spencer sits next to his boy and nods, slinging his arm around the younger's shoulders. "Of course. Whatever you want, we'll do. I think it'll be fun to go to bed on a huge swing, it's why I thought you'd like this. Seems I was right."
"Why did you do this anyway? I thought you said this room wasn't for guests." The baker tucks his feet under his legs, sitting crossed-legged and leaning his weight into Spencer.
"It's not for guests. I did this for you, us. A stress-free area, for you to relax and for us to take breaks in. A place for us to play in, you know how you go into the space told you about?"
Nodding, Sam remembers when he doesn't think about work or school and just plays with no worries. Even words sometimes don't come to him, but he always has fun and knows he is safe. At first, he found it odd that he's more concerned about pure instinct, like a dog at times. However, Spencer had explained it as just a way to let go of human anxiety, that other people also experience it as well on different levels. It had comforted him, and knowing that Spencer would take care of him until he came out of it. "Yeah, I know."
"Well, this room will be for when you wanna let go for a while. Without interruptions. We got a tv to watch anything you want, some soft toys for you, a warm bed and soft rugs. I'll get a little fridge for snacks too. How's that sound?"
Grinning, Sam kisses the man's cheek. "That sounds amazing, thank you!"
