{Twenty}

Throughout Sam's shift that night, he noticed Robin acted odd at the beginning. The man hadn't looked directly at him or gotten very close, making sure they each had enough space. It hadn't bothered Sam, he knows well some people aren't great at socializing and he appreciated the distance that was between them while working. No eye contact worked for him as well, avoiding awkward accidental eye contact. They talked and laughed, and they got along wonderfully.

Sam is glad he asked Robin for help, the man knows what he is doing and genuinely enjoys the process of baking or decorating. He spoke of his classes and recommended the school he is attending when his coworker expressed interest in going to college for baking. As the shift dragged on and more batters were prepared, themes or flavors discussed, Robin had come out of his shell and Sam had as well. Getting close to each other over papers of plans, playfully pushing or slapping hands that try to steal ingredients.

Robin started to feel like a friend nearing the end of the shift, one Sam was amazed he hadn't seen or considered speaking too. Hesitantly, Robin had asked about Spencer, how they met and how long they had been together. Sam hadn't thought much of the nervous glances to the door of the kitchen when Spencer came up, the disbelieving gazes as he goes on enthusiastically saying how sweet and caring the older man is.

The topic of Spencer is quickly changed to Robin's relationship, which is with a young woman in her twenties, who seems to be the love of the man's life in his words. Robin blushes at Sam's observation that he loves the woman, nodding and admitting he wants to marry her. They go on speaking about wedding cakes and if they'll bake their own for their weddings or hire someone else, Robin considers doing it himself.

Sam flushes in embarrassment when he confesses that he makes birthday cakes for his dogs, this only earns Robin asking for pictures and how to make a dog friendly dessert. The coworkers bond and become new friends, growing closer with a passion for baking and animals. Sam learns Robin is shockingly similar to him, liking his solitude and silence while in crowds.

The man only has an outgoing attitude with certain things, mostly going along with his girlfriend when she plans activities for them. Robins goes on to show pictures of his pets; a Boston Terrier, King Snake and the newest kitten he got for his girlfriend. Sam excitedly gives out recipes he knows are friendly to cats and dogs, promising to find ones for snakes. They make plans for the animals birthdays, considering if the dogs would get along for play dates in the park.

Their boss comes to check on them, being greeted with delightful laughs and energetic movements around the kitchen to get cakes from the ovens or cut cooled cakes down. Sam hadn't witnessed his boss grin as widely as she did before, encouraging them and wishing them good luck as she hurried out to keep from interrupting the flowing conversation. Seeing the two quiet workers having such a fun time with each other without any long silences or awkwardness, made her extremely giddy and proud.

They're halfway finished with the entire project by the end of the shift, having three tiers of the giant cake stacked up and cut to perfection. Merely needing to decorate and bake the remaining two tiers of cake. Both walk from the kitchen with grins; Sam covered in batter and icing that he prepared earlier for the decorations, while Robin is much the same.

They had both needed to help put it in a cold storage to keep it good and fresh, the cake much too heavy for one to carry. Sam is happy with the work he put in and his company for the shift, excited to see where this new budding friendship will go afterwards. Neither notice the tall body in one of the booths, amber eyes darkening as they watch the interaction at the counter.

Spencer had been sitting in the far back corner for thirty minutes, too early for Sam's shift to end. He had come in just on the off chance Sam needed him here to put that boy in his place, but it seems they get along and that his boyfriend is content with his coworker for now.

It does give the youtuber a sour sensation in his chest at watching Sam laugh with the other man, leaning on the counter and showing a photo on his phone. The older man had been sitting on his own phone, reading through the comments on the video announcing his relationship. Most of them seem positive, while there is the occasional hate one or someone upset, he responds to those to shut them down.

The photo he sneaked of them cuddling one night ended up on one of his accounts, gathering attention on the media and options of the cute puppy boy on his chest, asleep. So far, it seems to be going well to have his status changed to taken on the internet. No one had said anything that could cross the line or be overly rude, from what he's seen. Glancing back up to the counter, he scowls.

At least the internet is keeping to themselves, unlike some coworker I know. He doesn't enjoy how close his boyfriend is with that Robin boy, aware Sam is being friendly, but not knowing what the other man is thinking bothers the dominant. Robin could be trying his shot at Sam and Spencer wouldn't know unless he overheard them or his puppy told him, he doubts Sam would even realize someone was trying to capture his attention in such a flirty way though.

He observes the way Sam leans against the glass counter, closer to the door to wait for Spencer, Robin has taken his place back behind the counter by the register so he can scan the orders. The coworker is grinning widely, chuckling at something his puppy said while Sam bounces on his toes, unable to sit still. He catches his boyfriend glancing out the window, clearly eager to see Spencer and it makes the man grin to himself. Waiting for another moment to see Sam reach for his phone in his pocket, no doubt to text him.

Getting up and pocketing his device, he doesn't announce his presence as he walks up to them. He can overhear them speaking, the bakery empty and quiet due to the sun setting and the darkness creeping over the town. Sam is listening to Robin intensely, nodding along to his suggestion of, "maybe we could all go out to the park soon? I kinda wanna see if Kaila will get along with your boys. She hasn't been around many other different dogs, sadly, just family pets."

Sam excitedly agrees, getting in one short nod before he startles harshly at an abrupt grasp from behind. Arms snaking their way around his waist and tugging him softly into a warm, sturdy chest and breath fanning the back of his neck. Turning, alarmed, rigid muscles sag at the sight of Spencer and the baker grins widely. Greeting his taller boyfriend happily, eyes bright in his excitement over his good day. "Spencer! When did you come in? I didn't hear the bell."

Spencer smiles, chuckling at the hyperness of the younger man. Pressing a short kiss to his soft lips and tightening his arms when he notices Robin over Sam's head. "I came in early, had some of your delicious little desserts over there. How'd that project come along?"

He rubs soothingly along Sam's side, hip to waist as he listens to the puppy telling him about his shift. "Oh! We're nearly finished with it! Robin is such a great help and we really hit it off! Thank you for suggesting I ask someone, I'm really happy with how everything is turning out and I couldn't have done it without his help."

Amber eyes' stare over the boys' head at said assistant, hard and dark and vicious. The man gulps at the sudden attention on him, eyes wide as they flick between the hyper boy and the increasingly pissed man. Further intimidated at the carefully controlled voice that speaks, hearing the underlying fury in it. "Oh, really?"

"O-oh, it- was nothing, really. Had a great time with him too-" Robin backtracks quickly as this statement only gains him a stronger glare and a raised eyebrow as a warning, "Uh. I mean- working with him was fun, we have a lot in common and, and, that helped a bunch."

Sam butts in, unaware of the power play at work or the possessiveness in Spencer's grip or eyes. "Yea! He's got the same love for baking and animals as me. He has a cute little terrier that the boys would adore too!"

His boyfriend chuckles into his ear, the breath of it tickling his skin and making him giggle, large hand settling on his hip and leaning deeper into his back. "Well, aren't you two a match for each other? I'm proud of you, baby, for getting so much done today."

The gentleness in his tone is the complete opposite of the disdain in his gaze at Robin, the poor man doesn't understand what he had done to gain such a strong reaction from the strange red-head. Aside from merely working at Sam's side, as a good coworker would do. The only thing he is certain of, is that this man isn't exactly who he imagined little shy and nervous Sam dating.

This taller, older, gentleman is too assertive and, from the threat earlier, violent. Robin never thought Sam could be involved with someone that was violent, the baker is soft and kind, he hadn't made a rude comment or even looked people in the eye since he started working at the bakery. HIs coworker always thought he was someone that would seek out someone similar, or perhaps a partner that was outgoing enough. However, it's becoming obvious that Sam is attached to this Spencer and he's in sweet bliss of ignorance to the possessive actions Robin is witnessing.

Sam grins, bouncing on his toes again in hyper activity he can't control. "Thank you! I'm so happy! The cake is coming out amazing and I think I made a new friend. We can be friends, right, Robin? We still need to introduce the dogs after all."

Attempting to ignore the dark amber eyes scowling at him, Robin nods as eagerly as he can manage with how threatened he feels. "Of course, Sam! I'd love to be friends with you, maybe I could introduce my girlfriend to you too."

Spencer narrows his eyes at the man behind the counter, certain the girlfriend mentioned was for his benefit more than suggesting Sam meet the woman. Yet he relaxes knowing the man is straight and in a committed relationship, the chances of him going after Sam is low now. The red head doesn't show much reaction to it, merely kissing his puppys' head and loosening his hold on him just a bit. The scorn in his expression towards the other man disappears, aware he had intimidated him enough and knowing if he did ever try something with Sam, the youtuber could easily discourage him.

Seeing the clingy man on Sam lose tension, Robin makes a quick decision. "Hey, how about we exchange numbers? That way we can plan a playdate with the dogs, see if they'll be good around each other."

He gains an instant glare from Spencer, but Sam eagerly agrees and gives over his phone number easily. A quick text to his phone gives him Robin's number as well, each taking a picture for the contact photo. Spencer ends up in Sam's photo, the man unmoving and kissing the bakers' temple while piercing the camera with his eyes. Afterwards, Spencer deems enough time has been wasted speaking to the coworker and starts gently herding Sam to the door. "Baby, it's getting a little late, we still need to walk the dogs and feed them."

"Oh! Crap, I nearly forgot! Oops." Sam chuckles, cheeks flaming with his shame of the dogs slipping his mind in his excitement. Turning to grin at his new friend, "I'll see you tomorrow! Thanks for the help today!"

He needs to raise his voice slightly to be heard as he's guided out the door, but Robin waves and laughs. On the walk home, Sam goes through what he and Robin did, the topics they spoke about and what he thinks about the man. Spencer listens, at first affronted by the gushing of another man, but quickly calmed down by the repeating theme surrounding the man. Friend.

Sam speaks of his happiness and excitement of finding another friend, how they have things in common that Charlie and Sam don't and how Sam had talked freely to Robin instead of hiding in his shell. Spencer doesn't see a trace of attraction for the man, Sam is only interested in a friendship and the older can allow that without fear of Sam leaving him. Besides, if Rob or whatever has a girlfriend, he wouldn't leave her for someone else and Sam can't date anyone else. Not while I'm around. Spencer reassures himself, smiling down at Sam when his little boyfriend looks up at him.

"I'm happy you had a great time, Puppy. I'm sure you'll be great friends with him, you seem to get along well." He shows support, knowing if he shows the initial dislike for Sam's coworker, his boy may just distance himself either from Robin or Spencer. The man can't have that. Now, Sam wants more friends and if Spencer doesn't allow some of them, Sam will be unhappy and start questioning him. Questioning would only lead to his puppy eventually leaving and the man just can't imagine that happening, or needing to lock the boy in a room forever. He will do so, if it means keeping his boyfriend to himself.

Sam smiles, going up on his toes to kiss his cheek. "We did, thanks again for encouraging me to ask someone at work. It went real easy and smoothly with his help, the client should be really happy it'll be done tomorrow."

Halfway to the apartment building, Spencer pauses and leans against a wall, pulling Sam to stand flush to his chest, arms locking around his waist. Sam blinks, but leans further into the warmth of the body surrounding him. His chin is gripping softly, fingers on his cheeks as his head is tilted up to look into dark eyes. Spencer fixes his voice to come out soft, yet firm. "Now, why didn't you tell me your coworker was a man?"

Confused, Sam's eyebrows furrow and he tries to tilt his head to the side, momentarily forgetting the grip on his jaw. "Huh?"

"You didn't tell me he was a man, Babe. I wasn't expecting you to be around another guy all day." Spencer clarifies, only slightly.

"Well, I figured you saw him at the counter when you pick me up everyday. I didn't know it mattered. It upset you, I'm sorry. But why did it matter?"

Soothingly, Sam's head is kissed, then his lips softly. Spencer tightening his hold around his waist and bringing him closer while answering. "I just don't like the idea of you around other men so much, someone could try and steal you from me and I wanna keep you, Baby."

"But-"

"Just tell me if you'll be around other men, and if possible, try to make women friends. Can you do that? For me?" Sam's bewildered expression slowly bleeds into a small smile, nodding his head even if he finds this odd.

"Okay, I'll try to and I'll warn you about other men, if that's what you want."

Spencer grins, kissing his boy's lips possessively, fighting himself to keep it soft and sweet. "Thank you, Sweetie."
