Chapter 9

Two days later. . .

"Yangyang, here," Yiyeon handed the boy a bottle of water after he placed the box of ornaments down.

The Chinese boy smiled, "Thanks, Yiyeon," he said and sat beside her. "You're doing well in organizing our booth."

"Thanks," she replied. "We really have to move fast since the foundation day is coming near." She took a deep breath and faced him, "By the way, shouldn't you be in either the basketball team's booth or the orchestra's booth?"

"Of course, I wouldn't abandon you guys for them," Yangyang replied, drinking from his water. "Besides, I told you that I wouldn't leave you, right?"

"Well, I didn't know that you took it to heart," she chuckled.

"Yangyang! What are you doing there? You were supposed to help Daewon and Sungchan carry the boxes, not just sit there and chat with Yiyeon!" Yejin said and pulled Yangyang away.

Yiyeon could only laugh at her friends who were making fun of each other. It was as if she was watching a live sitcom through her friends.

Sighing, she stood up and excused herself to the restroom.

"Jeongmin-ah.." Yejin called the younger. "Is it just me, or something's changed?" She asked while throwing glances at Yiyeon, who was walking away, and at Yangyang, who just entered the auditorium while carrying some thin pieces of wooden planks.

The younger girl stood beside Yejin and watched how Yangyang looks at Yiyeon, who was walking away, "Yep, something changed, alright," Jeongmin said, nodding.

After their two-hour vacant period, the students had to go back to their respective classes. Sungchan and Jeongmin had Literature class left, Yangyang and Yejin had Geometry class, and Yiyeon and Daewon had History.

"Is everything alright?" Daewon asked Yiyeon while they were on the way to their class.

The girl timidly nodded, "Yeah, I just don't feel like studying as of the moment," she said and sighed.

"But you love history..." Daewon suddenly had a realization that it might not be the subject that she loves. But the feeling of something else. Something else.

He was quick to throw a glance at Yiyeon when he realized that it was the only class that holds Yiyeon, and her now ex-boyfriend, Lee Jeno.

"Don't look at me like that. It's as if I did a grave thing," she scoffed.

"You endured the tedious lessons just to be with Jeno, am I right?" Daewon asked. "I just realized it now... that History is the only class wherein you'll see each other."

The girl looked down and continued walking, "Everything was all about him," she smiled sadly. "But that's not the case anymore." She looked up at her friend and smiled.

The two entered their classroom and sat in their usual places.

Their history teacher arrived a couple of moments later, but Yiyeon was too occupied as she drifted herself into dreamland.

"Yiyeon-ah..."

The girl slowly opened her eyes to look at the person who interrupted her slumber.

"Why are you here?" Uninterested, she decided to lean her head on her desk once again.

The boy sighed, "I know that we're not on good terms as of the moment, but I want you to know that we were paired up for a three-part report in History."

She looked up and saw his guilty-looking face, "Fine. You can sit beside me," she sighed and removed her books from the empty seat beside her. "Why must it be you, though? I mean, there are 30 people in this class. What are the odds," she muttered under her breath while struggling to open her pencil case.

"I know," Jeno nodded reluctantly. "But like you, Mr. Shin caught me sleeping as well. So she decided to pair us since both of us were sleeping in her class. She thought that we wouldn't know anything since we were asleep," he said, taking the pencil case whose zipper was stuck. "But don't worry, I won't bother you ever again after this task," he said, placing the pencil case back on the desk.

"Jeno, that's not what I mean--"

"It's fine," he smiled.

But Yiyeon was something else.

"Can you tell me the task we're supposed to do?" Yiyeon asked.

"As I said earlier, it's a three-part report—an outline of the report, the written report, and the report, which needs to be binded," Jeno said while watching Yiyeon write the tasks on a piece of paper. "How's the delegation of tasks?"

"Like the old days..."

"Like the old days?" Jeno hid a smile.

Yiyeon's eyes widened as she realized what she said.

"There are only three parts for this task, how are we supposed to do our odd-even scheme?" Yiyeon frowned as she browsed the task that was given to them by their Biology teacher.

"Let me see," Jeno said, getting the paper from his girlfriend. "What if we each get a task, and then let's just help each other in the most difficult part?"

"That's not a bad idea..." The girl said, nodding. "Let's start!"

"Yiyeon-ah?"

She blinked a couple of times before realizing that she had zoned out.

"W-What?! I wasn't thinking about anything!"

"I wasn't saying anything, either," he chuckled.

Lee Jeno, why must everything be this way?

***

"Why do you look so stressed?" Yejin asked the moment Yiyeon arrived at their usual spot.

School had just ended, and since tomorrow's a weekend, they decided to hang out at their usual spot--the bubble tea store.

"Destiny paired me with Jeno," she said as she sipped on her bubble tea.

"What?! Is everything okay? Did you two fight?" Yangyang worriedly asked.

She shook her head, "Our brainstorming session actually went better than I expected. I'm actually halfway done with the outline. We'll be working on the written report together, and he'll be the one who'll be binding our work."

"How in the world could you two work that fast when all you two did was sleep during History?" Daewon argues. "Meanwhile me and Felix couldn't even agree on anything."

"Idiot," Yejin rolled her eyes.

"What about you guys?" Yiyeon asked.

"We just need to read a poem by Poe and create our interpretation out of it," Yangyang said while scrolling through his phone. "I'm done reading it and if I would still have energy after basketball practice later, I believe I could finish it tonight."

"How are you guys supposed to practice when our booths are literally inside the auditorium?" Jeongmin asked.

"We'll be having drills at the school grounds," Yangyang sighed. "Not like we could ditch our practice today, we have a game this upcoming Sunday."

"I see," Yejin nods.

Yiyeon looked at the notification which popped up in her phone, "Hyunjin said that he'll drop me off at our house then he'll return for practice," she quickly finished her drink and picked up her bag. "I have to go now, you guys! See you on Sunday, at the basketball game."

"Let me help you with that!" Yangyang immediately rushed to help her.

The two started to walk away.

Yejin squinted her eyes at Jeongmin, who immediately knew what Yejin meant. The younger just shrugged.

"Is it just me, or something really changed?" Sungchan said out of the blue which made the three look at him immediately. "What, what did I do?" He asked.

"You noticed it, too?" Daewon asked, causing Jeongmin and Yejin to look at him weirdly. "What?!"

"I thought me and Yejin-unnie are the only ones who noticed it!" Jeongmin exclaimed.

"What do you mean?! Those two are being obvious as hell!" Daewon said.

"Something changed, indeed." Yejin said.
