-The Dinian Clock
As persistent as the Lundoran trade language, calendar, and money have been, The Church of One has won at least one cultural victory throughout West Terrok: The clock.
The famous water clock in Circepal City became one of the wonders of the world when it was constructed in LEY 2070 (CR 3815). It burned down in 2840, but was replaced by an A'Shee work mechanical clock. The original clock's influence remains to this day, and in most civilized countries of West Terrok, even where Dwarven or A'shee clocks keep better time, it is always reckoned in 'drips.'
The system, called the "Dinian Clock" after St. Din, separates the day into four watches, which are further divided into "Bells" (every 2 Earthly hours), "Chimes" (12 minutes), and "Drips" (1.5 minutes).
The day:
4 watches - Morning, Day, Evening, Night
Each watch is made up of 3 Bells,
Each Bell is 10 Chimes
Each Chime is 10 Drips.
Each Drip is 100 Ticks
Therefore:
1 Bell = 2 hours
1 Chime = 12 minutes
1 Drip = 1.5 minute
1 Tick = .72 second
Morning: from 6 o'clock to noon (3 bells at 6, 8, 10)
Day/Afternoon: from noon to 6 o'clock (3 bells at 12, 2, 4)
Evening/Gloaming: (3 bells at 6, 8, 10)
Night: (12, 2, 4)
Special Hours:
1 o'Night = Midnight Bell
1 o'Evening = Nightturn/Evening Bell (Dinner Bell, in many traditions, end of work in others)
1 o'Day = Noon/Midday Bell
1 o'Morning = Dayturn/Morning Hour (Breakfast Bell, in many traditions, start of work in others)
