Day 4 (Part 5)

Shadowfur made her way to the edge of the Cornicopia clearing. The heat was wearing down on Shadowfur so much she didn't pay mind to trying to find any fresh scents she just watched the line of bags. There were three and since Ravenpaw had passed she would take his bag. She watched all corners of the clearing for any sign of movement, but the major heat wave had caused most of the lush greens into shriveled bare branches.

The she-cats black pelt didn't help her though even though she had tried tucking far into the brambles they still crackled under her weight. However the corners of the clearing seemed clear to Shadowfur.

Shadowfur was so eager for any hydration she took several more heartbeats of searching before racing out towards the bags. The burning dirt under her paws stung worse than falling into a thorn bush.

Before Shadowfur made it even halfway, a long line of fire abruptly blocked her path. The heat blew up in Shadowfurs face, making her eyes water. She panicked and turned racing back the way she came until the fire blocked her again trapping her inside.

Larkwing jumped up with the sword at the sight of the fire. He had had his sword in paw ready to strike at Shadowfur, but the fire had came out of no where. He padded a little ways towards the entrance of the Cornicopia watching the fire.

"Jump. Jump!" He muttered angrily under his breath ready to end it so he could return home to his sister.

It seemed like moons as Larkwing waited for the she-cat to jump and try retrieving her bag. He lost his nerve and tucked his sword in its sheath behind his back. He raced straight ahead for the fire leaping over the flames to the other side.

Shadowfur leaped back at the sight of another cat flying into the flames with her. He landed facing away from her and she took her chance. The pitch black she-cat landed on top of the gray and white tom, like night succumbing daylight.

She immediately latched her paw onto the sword that was in a sheath upon the toms back. She immediately recognized him as Larkwing, he had been one of the Dreaders from the beginning.

The district two tom bucked and spun trying to get the Shadowfur off, but she clung on tight. She knew she wouldn't win the fight without the sword. Suddenly the tom began to roll onto his back. Shadowfur shrieked as her breath was taken away by the toms weight combined with her struggle to breath in the blazing hot climate.

Larkwing jumped onto his hind legs and reached for his sword to find it was gone. He turned to the she-cat. She had the sword sticking straight up while she lay on her back gasping.

Dumb she-cat!

Larkwing sprang towards Shadowfur when suddenly he felt a piercing pain near his chest. He kicked his hind legs, hitting the she-cats soft belly fur and the pain eased. She had penetrated him with the sword.

Larkwing stumbled back holding his chest as blood dripped off onto the dirt. His eyes raised to meet Shadowfurs green ones. They were unclear, but Larkwing picked up the fear and leaped again, this time towards he neck.

Shadowfur threw the sword into the flames and jumped into the air clashing into Larkwing. She was going to take him out the way real warriors would, by claw and teeth. The two cats barrel rolled too close to the flames. Shadowfur went to pull back, but Larkwing dug his claws into her shoulders locking her to him.

"Not so soon!" Larkwing hissed.

Shadowfur kicked the toms stomach with her hind paws standing over him with his claws still intact with her shoulders. She felt his hot breath close to her ear as he tried to bite anything he could find, but he was weak.

Through the struggle Shadowfur tried to find his sword wound near his chest. Once she finally spotted it she dug her forepaw into it unsheathing her claws. Her heart raced. This had to work, she knew she wasn't ready to die now.

Larkwing screeched in pain from the she-cat digging her claws into his open wound. He started battering his claws anywhere near her face trying to aim for her eyes. Suddenly the she-cats weight disappeared and Larkwing rose to his paws. The world around Larkwing became very dizzy and he started to stumble backwards. His whole chest felt as if it was open and his heart was pounding in every spot of his body.

A scorching heat flared up inside of Larkwing coating his whole body. He flung his body everywhere he possibly could, but the heat was so overwhelming. Everything became black.

BOOM!

Shadowfur gasped at the sound of the canon. Larkwing had been lashing out and shrieking while fire danced upon his back. The fire circle finally fell from around Shadowfur. She felt her whole body ache from the whole fight and heat.

"I won,"She giggled to herself.

"I won."
