Day 2 (Part 2)

SOOOOO I finished this earlier than I thought and am super excited to share so I'm releasing this early! Hope you all enjoy!

Amberrain climbed up a rocky hill. The rocks were very touchy. Tigerslash had avoided climbing that way and chose to go around the rock slide but Amberrain had caught a scent and wasn't about to let it go stale.

Amberrain finally reached the top and threw her sword over the top then pulled herself up. She stood and turned around looking for Tigerslash's white pelt and spotted her struggling through the thorns.

Amberrain hissed to herself. Why'd she have to get stuck with the half blind cat?

She took the opportunity to look around. From her view she had a great look at the meadow below and the forest. Amberrain slitted her dark blue eyes looking for cats.

Tigerslash hissed as another thorn penetrated her paw pad.

"She's going to be the first to die Molepelt," Tigerslash heard her mother's voice weap to her father be for she was taken away.

"Look at me now mom," Tigerslash grunted to herself. Just because she was blind in one eye didn't stop her from practicing ten times harder than the other tributes.

Tigerslash went to take another step before she realized she was about to step on barbed wire. She froze and took a deep breath in. Another cat! Amberrain might of taken the trail but Tigerslash had found the actual victim. She'd prove her wrong.

~The night before~

Salamanderthroat had found a large rock slide as the sun set. To the left was a large thorn patch. He'd climb the rock slide knowing most cats wouldn't risk being crushed to death. Then he'd reroute into the thorn patch and lay out his barbed wire.

Salamanderthroat reached the top of rock slide as the last light of the sun vanished. He quickly headed back down towards the thorn patch and laid down his wire for extra protection.

He then turned and opened his bag. Canned foods and jerky were filled to the brim. He began to think maybe he could try waiting it all out. He opened one can and ate half way through but held himself back. He had to save as much as he could. Finally after he saw all the cats who had died in the sky he curled up and drifted to sleep.

~Present day~

Tigerslash peeked through the thorn brush and spotted the district 10 tom Salamanderthroat curled up with a can of rank sardines.

Tigerslash took in a deep breath and quietly crept through the thorns careful to not grunt from the pain of thorns. Finally she made it into the small clearing and pulled her knife out. She inched closer and closer until she was standing above his head. A split second she began to feel sorry for not giving the tom a chance to fight but then she saw the bag full of food behind him and gulped. The other Dreaders needed that and maybe they wouldn't look at her as a disadvantage like Amberrain was.

Breath in. The knife tip to the head. Breath out. Press down.

BOOM!

Tigerslash had closed her eyes and thanked Starclan for the toms life. When she opened her eyes a dark amber eye was spread open in terror. With a deep breath she removed her knife and and laid her paw over the toms eyes to close them and then grabbed the bag full of food and started wrapping up the barbed wire for them to use back at base.

Tigerslash picked up the rank sardines and shrugged picking one by one out as she finished her climb.

Amberrain had sat down waiting for Tigerslash. "My name is Alexander Hamilton," Amberrain sang quietly missing being able to listen to music.

Finally she spotted Tigerslashs white pelt coming out of the bushes. Except now she had a bag and barbed wire looped around her arm.

"Don't bother I already got him," Tigerslash grunted but her eyes were filled with regret.

Amberrain almost rolled her eyes. Even though she was surprised Tigerslash was the cause for that canon, her eyes told Amberrain she wasn't set out for this.

I should just push her off the rock slide. Even out competition faster. Get more props back in the group for bringing the food.

"I'm sorry," Amberrain began using the sympathy card she walked over to Tigerslash and touched her shoulder. Once she had a hold of the bag she slung her drown to the ground catching her off guard.

Tigerslash gasped in shock but reacted quickly and kicked Amberrain back in the gut making her hit a pile of rocks. Suddenly the whole ground shook. Albertson looked up then ran at Tigerslash but the boulders and rocks had already began to slide.

Shadowfur woke on a thick branch of a huge oak tree. She was a tree cat and knew it would help her in the games, but wouldn't help her in finding allies. Shadowfur shook her head and stretched with a yawn. She needed to find an ally and quick.

Shadowfur perked her ears trying to listen for any sign of another cat. A soft breeze blew and Shadowfur caught a whiff of two cats. Slowly Shadowfur crept down branch by branch touching the warm dirt until she heard voices and saw the light brown pelt of Shrewtail and the ginger tabby of Tiger.

It's the Dreaders.

"We're all going to die anyways don't act like you didn't know that," Shrewtail's deep voice grunted.

Shadowfur held her breath. She pressed herself close to the base of the tree trying to hold her breath, fretting her pitch black pelt wouldn't get her killed. Those weren't the the allies she needed.

Looking up to the sky Shadowfur gulped and prayed to Starclan to make it quick. Suddenly there was the sound of a Rockwall in the distance.

"It came from over there!" Tiger meowed.

Shadowfur could barely feel the rush of wind from Shrewtail and Tiger racing past her. She stood frozen for several heartbeats too afraid to move until the two Dreaders had passed over a hill and out of sight.

As Shadowfur turned around she was slammed into another cat and fell back. As she looked up to see who crashed into her she noticed it was the handsome Shadestripe of district 7, the fishing district and he defiantly smelled like fish.

Shadestripe rubbed his head and quickly picked up his self made wooden/rock spear. He looked into the deep green eyes of Shadowfur and grunted.

I don't kill shecats.

"Well great I lost them!" Shadestripe grunted. He knelt down and picked up his net and a fish that fell from his vine strapped around his shoulder.

"Thank Starclan we lost them!" Shadowfur meowed back acting fierce but she clearly had the voice of a kit.

"No. I was about to drop my net on them to get that Hatchet off Shrewtail and kill him." Shadestripe responded.

"Drop the net? So you were in the trees?" The she cat asked clueless.

"No I was going to just throw it at them." He felt a stupidity purr.

"Then you had to of seen me! Why didn't you wake me. We could be ally's." Shadowfur nearly pleaded.

Shadestripe looked her up and down. No weapons or food...and a stupid wide from on her face. But she was from district eight and they climbed trees like second nature. He had had a huge problem just climbing up the tree little less dragging the net behind.

"For now but follow me quick." Shadestripe ordered.

"But won't they smell us if we travel on the ground?" The shecat questioned.

Shadestripe almost ripped his eyes out.

"THE FISH MASK OUR SCENT NOW COME ON THEY'RE COMING BACK." He lost his patience and trapped the she cat lifting her over his shoulder and running on two paws back to his camp.

"Put me down NOW," Shadowfur hissed as Shadestripes stride slowed. Finally he set her down near some brambles by a small lake.

"Look we're allys you listen to me you have no weapon, no food, no skill but climbing trees and that will only help for a little while. Now I'm going to show you how to fish and make a spear. Got it?" Shadestripe laid down the law.

Shadowfur opened her jaw but knew he was right. She spent all the way to sunhigh on learning how to fish and build weapons.

"You're a natural, you just might have a top five chance," Shadestripe began to beam. They stared warmly at each other then Shadestripe shook his head "But now you have to teach me to climb and jump trees."

Shadowfur observed his form. He was all muscle and a little thick.

"Ill do my best." She responded looking into his green eyes that reflected hers.

"Alright well grab ur shorter spear and your vine of fish. Never go anywhere without them. You never know what could happen." Shadestripe instructed feeling proud of his lessons and Shadowfur.

Shadowfur collected her things and headed towards the treeline. She found a nice oak and began describing her technique.

"Now stand here and just watch me go to the top and take notes." Shadowfur purred sarcastically since she was in church now.

Shadestripe rolled his eyes and nodded watching her go up.

Shadowfur climbed halfway up when she heard...

BOOM!

"Shadestripe!" Shadowfur panicked looking back down.

Below Shadestripes limp body lay under Shrewtail. His gray pelt stood out in the mud and his deep green eyes were wide but a little scrunched as if he still wore his fighting face.

"Come on down eight there's no where to go," a ginger she cat called devilishly from below.

"Come down or we're coming up!" Shrewtail hissed and began to climb

Shadowfurs eyes had begun to fill with water she could hardly croak a response. She took one last look at Shadestripes body dipping her head for a second.

Thank you for his life Starclan.

Shadowfurs feet were heavy to lift but somehow she managed. Running along the thickest branches and bouncing from tree to tree.

Below her ran the ginger pelted she-cat. Shadowfur tried pushing her emotions down so she could run her full potential, but the image of Shadestripes gray limp body and dead fighting eyes.

The next leap Shadowfur made she lost her footing and smashed her head into the branch and fell hitting her back a branch then her left hind paw. Finally she flunked to the ground dizzy.

"Stupid tree climber!"

Shadowfur gasped as the ginger she-cat climbed on top of her.

"Don't worry I'll make it quick!"

You just might have a chance in the top five.

Shadestripes words rang in Shadowfurs head.

"NO!" Shadowfur yowled.

With a sudden surge of energy she bucked Tiger off, but since Shadowfur had been so weak the she cat only stumbled back a couple mouse lengths.

Shadowfur took the time to get back onto her paws but once she stepped on her left hind paw she felt a stab of pain run through her.

"I was going to make it easy just like I did for your little frien-"

Shadowfur sprang onto Tiger using all her force scratching and screeching. Tiger fell onto the ground losing her dagger she hissed angrily and used her hind paws she kicked Shadowfur into the air and smacking right into a tree.

Shadowfur cried out in pain and tried climbing up the oak weakly.

Tiger stood panting ready to spring at Shadowfur thinking angrily.

Can't she see I was trying to make it easy for her. I need to win. I need to for Huskyfang. For our secret.

Tiger ran to Shadowfur yanking her down and throwing her to the ground unexpected emotion making Tigers eyes water.

"Just stop and I'll make it quick." She hissed holding her dagger high.

Shadowfur looked up. This was going to be her killer. This ginger she cat ploughed in gray. One eye green like hers. Funny. The other blue like her older brother's. This was her last moment. She closed her eyes finally allowing herself to whimper a cry before she made her journey to Starclan. And still Shadestripes voice whispered to her as if he was standing beside her guiding her.

Grab your shorter spear. Never go anywhere without it. You never know what could happen.

"Tiger!" Shrewtail called from the distance.

Shadowfur reaching for her short spear on her vine and stabbed it into Tigers paw.

"AHHHHHHH," Tiger shrieked.

Shadowfur used her right hind paw to kick Tiger away and stumbled quickly to the nearest tree and climbed with all her might. She glanced back down once she got high enough to see Shrewtail racing over to Tiger and yanking out the spear.

Shadowfur took a deep breath of pain and raced among the trees ignoring her stabbing pain until she was a far enough distance away. She collapsed in the center of a willow and wept her loss, Shadestripe. And far in her memories her brother was singing to her on a porch watching the sunset after the end of the games many moons ago when she had just become an apprentice,"Just close your eyes the sun is going down. You'll be alright no one can hurt you now."

Sparrowtail looked to the sky it was already past sunhigh and two bombs had already gone off. The Dreaders were definitely hunting. He just wanted the fighting to end, maybe if they all just came together and chose not to kill they'd be able to end the games forever.

He sighed as he walked along the treeline and in a small meadow. He kicked a rock and looked around. It sounded like there was a cat running close by.

RAAAAAAAAWWWRRRRRR

A bellow came from the tree line beside him. Two cats sprang out. One bowling into Sparrowtail. The she-cat rolled with Sparrowtail through the meadow.

Once they came to a stop the she cat sprang to her paws shaking in fear her eyes glued to something behind Sparrowtail. Sparrowtail turned around seeing what the she cat was so afraid of.

Behind them stood a huge dog three times their size. Dark furred and foaming from the mouth the mutts eyes were blood red.

Sparrowtail looked around. The tom that had been running with the she cat was no where in sight. He looked to her realizing her paw was twisted he turned to the mutt head on. If he defender one of the Dreaders then maybe Shrewtail would drop their beef.

Stonepelt shook in fear. She had tried listening to Flamewing and just waited till they'd gotten farther enough away where he could tend her twisted paw. Yet another step and she felt it might fall off.

She stood behind Sparrowtail surprised the district eight tom was defending him after they were tracking him to kill him. Sparrowtail began to race towards the mutt when suddenly Flamewing yowled from the tree line racing to her.

"It's after you Stonepelt run!"

Suddenly the mutt smacked Sparrowtail to the side and raced head on towards her. Stonepelt struggled limping away, then paused. If death was this near she wasn't going to go out without a fight.

Stonepelt laid her eyes on the dog who was struggling to unlatch Sparrowtail from his shoulder. Stonepelt yowled making eye contact with the mutt. She had trained for this most her life.

The dog flung Sparrowtail to the side and raced towards Stonepelt. Stonepelt managed to match his pace and clashed into the mutts face scratching and hissing.

Flamewing paced along the tree lines watching Stonepelt and Sparrowtail battling the dog. He sheathed and unsheathed his claws. Silverpaw's face illuminated in his mind and he knew he couldn't risk getting harmed. Besides this might eliminate 2 more tributes and make it easier for him and Silverpaw to make it through to the end, where he'd finally sacrifice himself for her. Finally making his decision he turned with one last glance back he headed back to camp.

Stonepelt screeched clawing and biting onto the dog, but feeling herself grow exhausted from loss of blood from a gash in her side. Suddenly she felt really dizzy and fell off the dogs back.

"Don't give up!" Sparrowtails voice called to her.

However, once Stonepelt rose weakly to her paws the dog picked her up by the paw and slung her into the air. As Stonepelt flew through the air she could already feel her life fly from her body and then she smacked the ground.

BOOM!

Dawnflowers head rose from her hunt at the sound of the canon. She felt her heart sink more. That was the third canon today and every canon was another chance it could be Cardinalpelt.

Dawnflower had never expected Cardinalpelt would be thrown in the games with her. She had grown up with him and grown to truly love him. Yet she never got around to telling him. This was her last chance.

Birds flew out of the trees in front of Dawnflower. Quickly she hid herself in the closest set of brambles, her calico pelt helping her camouflage.

Flamewing of district four raced past the brambles and off into the distance.

He was supposed to be one of the Dreaders what was he doing running through the forest as if he was afraid of something?

Dawnflower shook her head and stepped from the brambles. Her prey clearly gone to its burrow and so every other scrap of meat. She'd just continue her search for Cardinalpelt.

~Later that night~

Cloudfern gently nudged Goosepaw's broken leg into the stream.

"AHH-"

Cloudfern pressed her paw to the apprentices mouth. The poor apprentices yellow eyes were wide in terror. He'd been out since she had rescued him and fought through thorns to get him to the next closest stream.

"You're okay. But I'm going to have to break your leg off or you're going to die." Cloudfern instructed.

Goosepaw stared at the blur of white and gray speaking to him and then suddenly passed out again.

Cloudfern sighed and looked to the sky filling with stars. The Dreaders would be back at camp by now this was her only chance to try and save this apprentice. She was no medicine cat by all means, but couldn't face to kill an apprentice and couldn't watch him slowly die.

"Alright Cloudfern you can do this." She spoke to herself.

Finally after a couple of deep breaths she removed a rock spear she had began crafting once they got to the stream. She pressed it lightly onto the top of the apprentices broken leg.

"Do it Cloudfern fast and easy!" She murmured.

Quickly Cloudfern weighed her whole body weight onto the spear cutting clear through the apprentices leg.

"AHHHH DEAR STARCL-" Goosepaw cried out.

However, Cloudfern held her hind leg on his mouth as she smeared aloe from an aloe plant onto the wound and pulled on a patch of reeds and leafs onto the broken leg, fastening it around the apprentices tail and other hind leg.

"Mom!" Goosepaw croaked.

Cloudfern felt her heart melt and tried soothing the apprentice.

"Here, drink up." Cloudfern instructed pushing a wad of moss soaked in the aloe towards Goosepaw.

Goosepaw shrunk back afraid. This she-cat had just taken his leg off and forcing him to drink stinky moss. He'd seen games like this where tributes tortured other tributes. His mother had taken him away from the screen then so he wouldn't have to watch.

He chose not to speak. After escaping Stobepelt and Flamewings wrath he thought he was dead. But now he was alive he couldn't risk any more chances. He was the lowest district after all.

Cloudfern sighed. "I guess I can't force you, but i can tell you now you'll feel even worse in the morning."

Cloudfern turned and curled up beside a tree as the tributes appeared in the sky. When Stonepelts face appeared she swore she could hear the apprentice purr beside her.

Cardinalpelt looked to the night sky and felt a flitter of hope when Dawnflowers face never appeared. His search was unsuccessful today but tomorrow he'd try even harder to find her. He had a bag full of bombs and a couple of canned goods. They both would be able to take out the Dreaders all at once.

Flamewing was the last to arrive back at camp after the dead tributes had appeared in the sky. He saw Larkwing sitting near the fire with Silverpaw giggling. He shook his head after nearly killing Goosepaw with Stonepelt he felt he wasn't capable of keeping her safe anymore.

"Hey Flamewing have you seen Amberrain or Tigerslash?" Shrewtail called from the fire circle.

"No? Why?" Flamewing questioned.

"They never returned to camp and their pictures weren't in the sky," Larkwing meowed.

"Whatever who cares about them they're on their own now. Flamewing come look at my paw," Tiger ordered.

Flamewing sighed. He knew they were only keeping him around because he had medicine cat training.

"What happened?" Flamewing asked sitting down in front of Tiger inspecting her foot.

"That district eight fox sung stabbed me!" Tiger hissed.

"Yea well she's wounded pretty bad from her fall if she doesn't die tonight she'll die tomorrow. Besides we got her little district seven friend," Shrewtail sneered and chuckled.

"What happened to Stonepelt," Ravenpaw asked darkly. He sat afar from everyone on watch. His kitten like exterior gone replaced with an almost sinister sneer.

"Yea we saw her in the sky. How'd she die?" Silverpaw meowed, her icy blue eyes big, curious, but mostly innocent.

Flamewing noticed Larkwing become wary and glanced uncomfortably at Tiger, but gave Flamewing an understanding look.

Flamewing turned back to wrapping Tigers wound. They'd all have to kill each other soon, Larkwing just was the first to do so.
Flamewing suddenly saw Stonepelts eyes full of fear as he told her he'd fix her paw as soon as they made it to safety then leaving her to die.

How was he expected to protect Silverpaw if he left one of his own to die?
