Chapter 19: Annetta's POV
"Well. Now that we've gotten to know everyone, we have to make a plan. Do-" I was interrupted by running footsteps in the tunnel behind me.
"Shhhhh! They can hear you!" Someone whispered. I turned around slowly, terrified. It was a villain! I drew my axe, and everyone who still had one followed my example, brandishing theirs.
"Go away murderer! There's seven of us, and only one of you! We don't want to hurt you, but we will if we have to!" I warned.
"I'm not here to hurt you." Drizzella said, pushing my axe away from herself, and entering the cave. "And I never hurt anyone. I'm here to warn you."
"If you don't want to hurt anyone, why are you taking part?" Jacklin asked suspiciously.
"Between my sister and my mother, I can't get a word in about what I want." Jacklin lowered her axe slightly.
"That's true." She murmured.
"I'm trustworthy. I promise. Here. I'll give you my weapons." Drizzella handed me her two daggers, since I was closest. I gave one to Max, since he had lost his, and one to Jack, since his nunchucks were broken. I shoved the axe back into its place, and everyone else put their weapons away too.
"If you're not here to fight, what are you here for?" I asked.
"I want to... I want to join your rebellion."
"Okay but-"
"I'm trustworthy, but someone else here is not."
"What?" I asked, surprised. "Oh, you mean Pearl. We know-"
"No not her. Jacklin Hearts."
"Me? I'm totally trustworthy! You've got some nerve coming in here and-"
"How many times did you beg your mother to let you participate this year?" Drizzella interrupted accusingly.
"Yes but-"
"I thought we were friends, but when my sister wanted to be the cute twin, did you not provide her with the grimoire that would allow her to place the curse of ugliness on me?"
"Are we still talking about-" Max started to say, before Jacklin cut him off.
"I told you already! She didn't tell me that was what it was for!" She cried.
"Liar."
"Name calling, what is this kinder-"
"I am not a liar!" Jacklin growled, interrupting Peter, and stepping closer to Drizzella.
"Guys-" I started to say, in an attempt to stop the argument before it got any worse.
"You are a manipulative, lying, fake little-" Drizzella was cut off by a slap to the face.
"Woah! I'm isn't this going a bit to far!" Jack cried excitedly. He obviously found this entertaining.
"How dare you!" Drizzella shrieked, grabbing Jacklin's hair, and yanking. Jacklin dug her nails into Drizzella's arms in response.
"OKAY! That escalated quickly!" Peter cried.
"Can't we just talk this out?" I pleaded.
"No!" They both yelled.
"I don't care if you two fight, but you're not gonna be yelling at Annetta. She was trying to help." Audrey grabbed Drizzella around the waist with one arm, and began to try and untangle her hands from Jacklin's hair. Jack, following her example, wrapped his armed around Jacklin, and pulled. After the girls were separated, and calmed down, I decided to end the feud.
"Everybody, put your weapons in the corner." I slid my axe across the floor into the corner. The others looked at me doubtfully.
Finally, Audrey said, "Well, listen to Annetta. This is her alliance." Tossing her knives carelessly towards the corner. They embedded themselves in the wall. Slowly everyone put their weapons in the corner, not wanting to part with their protectors.
After all the weapons were safe in the corner, I said, "Everyone sit in a circle. We're gonna work this out civilly, because we're not monsters. If you'd rather fight and kill over a simple dispute, leave now, and join the monsters keeping us here." Jacklin and Drizzella sat sheepishly along with the rest of us. "This is the talking..." I grabbed the first thing I could find. "Hairbrush. Whoever has the brush can talk, and no one else. They'll be no interruptions. When the person with the talking brush finishes speaking, they will pass it to the person on their left, until the person holding the brush has useful input. I put great stress on useful." I said before handing the brush to Peter, who was on my left. Peter handed the brush to Pearl.
"I don't think any of this matters. We should talk about me. I'm way more important."
"I said useful." I interrupted. Pearl scowled and passed the brush to Jack. Jack handed the brush to Jacklin.
"Okay, so a couple of years ago, I was really good friends with both Drizzella and Anastasia. Anastasia came up to me, and said that a great harmless prank, would be to steal the shadow man's dark grimoire. It sounded like fun, so I said j was in. We stole the book, which was easy, and totally freaked out Facilliar, so that was good. I was keeping it in my room, and Anastasia came in in the middle of the night, all creepy. I woke up, and she asked if you could borrow the book, and send dark spirits after Captain Hook. I said sure, cause if your not sensing the pattern, I really liked messing with the slaves. The next day, I didn't even recognize Drizzella, and Anastasia crowned herself the cute twin. Of course you blame me though." Drizzella rolled her eyes. Jacklin passed the brush to Max, who hesitates before passing it to Drizzella.
"I just don't think I can believe you. I mean, look who we were raised by. We're not a trustworthy bunch. And Anastasia says it was your idea. I believe my twin. I've literally been with her since birth. I can tell when she's lying." The brush was passed back to Jacklin.
"Your sister is a pathilogical liar. She lies more than she tells the truth. If she told the truth once in her life, you'd probably decide she was lying." Jacklin replied callously. She passed the brush to Max.
"Um, can we try to stay polite please?" Drizzella snatched the brush.
"I'll forgive you if you apologize, and break the spell." This time Jacklin snatched the brush.
"You know I can't say that! Besides, I don't know how! I swear!" Drizzella huffed, and stomped out of the circle, pouting in the corner. Audrey followed her, saying something too quiet for anyone else to hear. Drizella seemed to cheer up a little.
