Chapter 10: Clouded Minds
Macabre was silent, his grip tight on the vampire huntress who stumbled occasionally as they walked down the hallways.
He didn't dare make eye contact, didn't want to do such a thing with such a horrible, cruel woman who had hunted down the vampire species. He knew how dangerous and bloody vampires he could be, but he didn't blame them. It was their nature. But he didn't believe that they should just be killed.
Charlos walked behind Eterna, his red eyes glowing softly. His wings fluttered behind him very slightly and twitched, glaring daggers at Eterna's back as if he could just hurt her like that. The vampire was just a child, but Macabre knew that he had to learn how to serve his species and people like how Fallacy always did.
Especially after the war that had occurred thousands of years ago...
The three stopped at the door of a room and Macabre opened it, yanking Eterna in with Charlos in tow.
The room would have been just a simple guest room, but it had been cleared of furniture. Just a single chair sitting there in the middle of the room.
Macabre let Eterna go, pushing her forcefully towards the chair with a hiss. "Sit." It sounded like an order, someone probably would have thought he was a General or the leader of a group had they not known who he was.
Eterna glared at the thief, turning and sitting down with a grunt. Her back ached like hell. Actually most of her body did.
She watched the two, Charlos closing the door with a clank of metal and then the click of a lock.
She could probably pick it in less than two seconds... Fight off that pathetic vampire and possibly kill him. Her eyes ran over to Macabre who was standing there tall and with a good posture, his arms crossed.
But that thief... A lot harder. He was well trained...
An inaudible sigh left her and she leaned back, eyes narrowed and glowing. "So. What are we gonna be doing in here. Have a little bit of fancy talk?" Her face was a painting of calm, her voice sly and almost laid-back. But it was all to hide the fear that lurched around in the pit of her stomach.
Macabre didn't look away from her for even a second.
"Why can't you ever just move on and leave the family at peace. I'd expect you to understand that after everything that has happened. Especially what you did."
Eterna swallowed hard, keeping her eyes narrowed.
"I am a vampire huntress. I fight and kill vampires for a living and I will never stop. The world, the village should always fear those horrible creatures." A glance over to Charlos. "Even their children are disgusting and blood-lusting beasts." She almost spat, earning a small growl from Charlos who stood where he was, probably stopping himself from lunging onto her and beating the shit out of her face and that cocky grin.
"So. You think that taking Encre back to the village will do her good? Make her happy? You'd have to be insane to believe that." He scoffed.
He knew of Encre's past, the Vampire King had told him of her nightmares and those gruesome fights she had always been dragged into mercilessly.
"You'd kill the Vampire King. Her friends. The family she always wanted and now finally has. All because of your ignorance and stupid attitude and job? Some friend you are.
And what about that unborn child of hers. Would you kill it too? Because it is part vampire? Do that and break her heart?"
Eterna watched him carefully, very slightly slumping down into her chair as she kept her mouth firmly shut. She didn't want to hurt Encre any more than she had already done... But...
"If you actually cared for her. If you actually considered yourself a friend of hers. Then you would leave her alone and let her live the life she wants to live. In this castle. In this forest. With Fallacy. Her son. And not in the village."
The huntress looked down at the floor and then to her hands which laid in her lap.
Did she really want to do this..?
Why of course she did, she's a vampire huntress!
But she'd hurt Encre beyond repair...
Charlos grumbled lowly and Macabre could see how Eterna was thinking deeply about this. Knowing that she was starting to regret things.
"I'm only going to tell you once. Get up and leave the family alone, walk out of the castle and go home and never come back. Never speak of what happened.
And if that's not what you want. And you still want to follow your horrific dreams?
Then I'll happily kill you right here. Right now.
I've done it plenty of times. But I promise you.
I'll enjoy this one the most."
A calm smile stretched across the thief's face. Charlos glanced up at him, staring at the look before looking to Eterna with a cold glare.
The huntress stared at the two. Her mouth a thin line.
"... Hunting vampires down is the only thing I am good at. If I give that up then what will I do then. I will have nothing." She admitted calmly.
"Then figure something out," Macabre snapped, his Spanish accent slightly noticeable for once. "It is not our fault if you do not know what to do. It is your problem and your problem alone. Now do you want to leave and walk out alive or as a damned ghost!?"
Eterna looked down. "I will leave and head back home and never speak of what happened."
"AND you will never come back to hurt Encre or her family, understood?" He hissed, his look never faltering.
"...understood."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Encre sat in her art studio, leaning against the wall as she hugged herself close. Tears still stained her cheeks, still hiccuping and sniffling quietly.
She hated this.. She hated this so much and she wished that all this drama and fear and hate could just end.
All she wanted was a calm, happy life with her family and lover... But she couldn't have that...
She was being hunted and stalked by a friend, her family getting hurt because of her and the hate of Fallacy's father.
And it was all her fault. Because of what she was.
It broke her to see all this happen before her eyes when all she could do was run and never fight. All she ever did was lie in a bed and paint and get pampered all because of her pregnancy. And as much as she wanted to look after her unborn child she wanted to go out and explore...
To learn and risk.
Encre sobbed into her hands and knees, drenching her dress.
There was a knock at the door and an almost inaudible sigh from the other side. "E-Encre...?"
Cruzar.
She stayed quiet and squeezed her eyes shut.
"C-an I come in..? I won't if you don't want me to!" The younger thief spoke again, staying close to the door.
He bit his lip and looked around the hallway before sighing again and gripping the doorknob. "I'm coming in.."
Cruzar opened the door and slipped in, closing it behind him quietly before spotting Encre. He frowned and went over to her, sitting down beside her and pulling her into a hug which the artist gladly accepted.
He rubbed circles into her back.
"Please... Don't cry Encre... I don't like seeing you upset..." He murmured softly, looking down at her as she whimpered into his jacket.
"I-It's my fault... I-It always is.." She mumbled, shaking and still hugging him.
Cruzar huffed slightly and pet her head.
"No it isn't... It never is... The world is full of stupid people... Stupid, careless people.
You are not one of them and you never will or have been..."
Encre sighed shakily, calming down very slightly.
A smile formed on Cruzar's face and he leaned into his friend, still holding her close.
"Don't worry Encre... I promise you, we'll all work together to fix all this. We'll get through it together and we'll stay close.
Everything always comes to an end...
It's only a matter of time."
Cruzar sighed, staring out of the window and watching as snow started to fall, soon to coat the Forbidden Forest in a layer of ice, snow and white.
The clouds dark and hiding away the falling sun, the moon that would soon start to climb and the stars that could soon come to shine.
Hiding away the truths... And an uncertain future.
