Michael's POV
It's been two months and I haven't seen Kathy or Daniel for that matter. I've only been working with employees. Did I drive her away? No no, because the employees are telling me that the wedding is still on, but they can't tell me where they went. Probably think I'll leak the information. I would never. I drive up to Kathy's house like I've done every morning. This time without Kenny. He needs a break. He looked exhausted when I went to get him this morning. Hell, I'm exhausted too. Funny though, all we've done is walk back and forth. Well, recently Daniel sent in some ridiculous requests for Kenny to do.
They were insane. He wanted Kenny to jump through a ring on fire, he wants to ride Kenny to the wedding arch, and he wants Kenny to carry the rings. Well, he can do the last one. I haven't given him a response yet. I got this evil idea in my head. I'll wait until I see him again. He'll be so happy to me and he'll be eager to know my answer. Then when I tell him that Kenny cannot do those things, he'll be crushed. I want to hurt him. Whoa whoa, Mike. Calm down man. He hasn't done anything to you. Expect marry the woman I love.
I stop at the gates. Every time I show up, there's a swarm of paparazzi outside. They keep photographing anything that moves. I'm glad I'm not famous. Mmm... Well in a way, I am. With Kenny. And I guess I will be when this is over. I sigh. Hopefully it's not too big. They seem to forget what privacy is.
When he gates open, I drive up to the house. When I arrive I park behind a limo. The trunk is open and I see luggage. There back?! I get out of the van and walk toward the limo. Nice. I nearly jump out of my skin when I hear someone yell,
"MICHAEL!"
I turn and it's Daniel. He pulls me into an unwanted embrace. I fake a smile and slightly pat his back.
"So, Michael, I was told you were considering what I requested."
"He can't do any of that stuff."
The excitement drained from his face. I had to keep myself from smiling. Then I saw Kathy. She looked concerned. I felt bad. I quickly add,
"He can however, carry the rings to you."
Daniel's face lit up. "Really?"
I nod. There was a period of our life, Kenny and I, were we performed together at private events and what not. I had to find a way to pay for the land in Africa and it worked.
Daniel pulled me into a tight hug. I sputter,
"Pl-please let me go."
He let's go and apologizes. I bend over and cough. He pats my back. I stand up and say,
"It's ok."
Daniel smiles at me, showing off his pearly whites. Wow..Maybe I should make an appointment with the dentist. When he looks away, I touch my teeth. Mm.. He turns back and says,
"Can we teach him today? Where is he?"
I run my hand through my curly black hair and say, "He's at home. I'm letting him rest. We've had a rough two months."
Kathy's POV
My heart flutters when he runs his hand through his hair. Why do I still feel this way? I had a wonderful time in Paris. Daniel and I made love every night. I fell deeper in love with him. At least... I thought I did. Maybe I should invite Michael to dinner with me. He's probably a jerk. I'll stop having these feelings when we finally communicate person to person instead of boss to employee. Yeah, that's a great idea.
Michael arrives to my house without Kenny. I lied and told him I needed to speak with him without Kenny. I greet him outside.
He smiles at me, "Hi, Kathy."
I nod. "Hi. Listen, today is actually an off day. I just wanted to get to know you better. I like to know my employees."
He nods, a little surprised though. We walk inside. I realize this is the first time he's been in my home. That seems so rude. I give him a quick tour, without showing my bedroom. We head down to the kitchen.
"So, Michael, what would you like?"
Michael's POV
You. I want to say it, but I can't. I begin to find it strange that she invited me over at 6.
"Um, a sandwich I guess."
Kathy laughs. "Just sit there and I'll make you the best sandwich you've ever had."
I smile and sat down on the stool at the counter. As she begins to make the sandwich, I can see in her eyes that she loves doing this.
"I'm going to make a Fig and Prosciutto Grilled Cheese Sandwich."
I smile. "A what?"
She laughs. "You'll love it."
When she's done she cuts the sandwich diagonally and them on two plates. She hands me a plate. I pick up the warm grill cheese and take a bite. She's waiting for my reaction. A swarm of flavors attacked my tongue. My eyes widen.
"Holy shit!"
Kathy smiles. I finish chewing and say,
"Sorry."
Kathy shakes her head.
"No, no. Don't apologize. I'm glad you like it."
I take another bite and say, mouth filled with food, "Like it? No, I LOVE IT!"
Kathy laughs. She leans on the counter trying not to stare at me. She takes a bite. I smile.
"You should become a chef. If you can cook this, you can cook anything."
Kathy's eyes begin to tear up. I notice and get confused.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you-"
"No no. It's just, no one's ever encouraged me to do something I love."
I smile. "I...I'm...honored?"
Kathy laughs and wipes her eyes. "You're funny, Michael."
I chuckle. No one encourages her to do something she loves. Does she hate acting?
"Michael?"
I was looking down at my half eaten sandwich. When I look up, I freeze. She's a few inches from my face. I feel a sweat coming on.
"Yes..."
"Is it bad that I want to... kiss you?"
Wha- Is she serious? Should I kiss her? This feels so right! No! Michael say no!
"No..."
She begins to lean forward, but I stand up and quickly back up. She looks at me hurt and confused.
"I'm sorry, Kathy. I..I should go."
I run out the front door, only to bump into Daniel. He's with some guys.
"MICHAEL! Come join us! They want to throw a party for me! Let's go!"
I begin to shake my head, but Daniel insists.
"Come on man, don't make me beg."
Beg?
"I wouldn't mind you begging."
Daniel laughs and puts his arm over me and leads me to his limo. Before he shoves me inside, I turn and look at the house. Kathy is at the door. She looks pissed. Damn it, Michael! The limo doors close and I'm dragged away into the night.
