Chapter Two

Esther's eyes popped open, then Coleene's. They sore all over.

"Are you okay?" The two asked each other.
"Yeah."

The shack was blown open. Wood Leicester were scattered all over the ground. Jamie got up quickly.

"Ow." She rubbed her head.

They started to ask how they felt.

"You good?" Coleen asked Jamie for the last time.
"Yep" Jamie replied, standing up.

There was a little silence.

"Is your friend okay?.."

Coleen pointed to Mackie, who was laying on the ground with her eyes closed. Her cheek had a huge claw mark on it, that went from her forehead, down to her chin.

"Uh-Mackie!" Jamie yelled.

She ran straight for her. A huge truck and cops pulled up. The people in the truck were wearing high tech protection armour. They started to run around the area. The cops came to the girls.

"Mackie, Mackie get up!" Jamie started to shake her.

Esther stood at the feet of Mackie. She looked down at her oozing wound with a him expression, slightly scarred. She backed away as the cops started to fill in. The cops pushed Esther and Coleen away, handcuffing them. They had a difficult time handcuffing the thrashing girl though. A man picked up Mackie. They got in a car.

"Your orders were to guard the school!" One cop yelled at the three girls in the backseat.
"Now the schools on fire!"

The girls were so busy looking at themselves and Mackie, that they didn't even notice the smokey air. Like programmed machines, their head looked out the same window at the same time. The school was smoking.

"Oops." Jamie said sarcastically under her breath.
"Well if you would've told us what was over there, then we would've kept guarding and left the shacks alone!" Yelled Esther enraged.
"You had strict orders to protect the relic!" The same guard in the passenger seat yelled.

Coleen and Esther kept arguing, but when Jamie spoke with despair it cut through the yelling.

"Will Mackie be okay?" She asked.
"I don't know. Because of you she's hurt-by some mystery monster." The guard practically slat in Jamie's face.

She became pale with sadness and guilt.

"What was that thing?!" Yelled Coleen.
"None of your business!" He yelled back.
"You guys are off the mission now. You won't be doing more and you're going home as a disappointment." He said before the car parked.

The hatful guard thrashed them into the building. They watched as Mackie went down a different hall on a stretcher. Coleen was pushed down another as well.

"We need to ask a few questions." A cop told her.

The rude guard lead Esther and Jamie back to their room, which had a new lock. Esther laid across the bed, letting her golden-ish-brown hair spread across the sheets. Jamie started to workout. She took off all her equipment.

"I hope Mackie is okay.." She whispered.

The sad but once fierce girl laid on the bench, starring at the ceiling. Esther started to colour. Coleen and Mackie didn't return that day, nor the next.

The door creaked open. Esther and Jamie looked at it quickly. Jamie was hoping it would be the girl with freckles and brown hair, that swooped over her pale white skin. Instead, it was Coleen. The girl with blond hair, it was so blond that it looked almost white. She was very skinny and had big hazel eyes. She stepped in fully.

"Coleen!" Esther cheered.
"Hi!" Coleen beamed.
"What did you do?" Jamie asked bluntly.
"They just asked me questions about why we went there and if I saw the "monster"."
"A few questions, huh?" Jamie muttered about how a few could take two days.

Esther jumped up.

"I caught it on my device I took along!" She said with pride.

While those two dull days went by, she had checked the all the settings on her device and found a camera. While Esther fell from the brake out, she hit that button and caught a blurry glimpse. Like Jamie had saw, it was black with "worm" things all over its body. Jamie and Coleen gasped. A fact, it was truly hideous. Esther drew it on multiple papers.

"Mackie's not back?" Coleen asked sadly.
"No." Jamie and Esther replied.

Every time Mackie was mentioned, Jamie would think back to the guard saying, "Because of you she's hurt."
The girls ate, then went to sleep; wondering what would tomorrow would bring.

They had nothing to do while they awaited Mackie's return. The four were going to be realised after Mackie recovered-that is if she recovers...
Coleen adjusted to the room once again.

"Rise and shine, sleepyheads." The mans voice announced through the speaker.

The girls got up and yawned while stretching. The door opened.

"Your foods here." A cop said harshly.

Three guards marched in. They handed the girls their breakfast. When they were about to leave, one more guard came in. The man was with Mackie. He put the sleeping beauty in bed.

"Mackie!" Jamie called.
"Don't." The guard said, putting his hand out.
"She'll need rest." He put his hand down.
"Whe-when will she get better? When will she get up?" Jamie asked limply.
"I'm not sure." He replied calmly.
"What did this to her?" Jamie asked harshly.
"I don't know. You lead them to a monster." He said.
"What did you do to her?!" She asked frightened.
"That's not your business!" He said with irritation before leaving and locking the door.
"Mackie..." Jamie said quietly then sat down.

Coleen and Esther sat there awkwardly, not known what to do. This was the start of a bad week.

Most of the time, the girls were quiet. They didn't talk much. Sometimes Esther and Coleen would have small talk when they felt lonely. One evening, Esther and Coleen were colouring and Mackie was working out when Mackie decided to join them. She slowly opened her eyes.

"Huh..?" She rubbed her sore head. Coleen and Esther peeled their eyes away from their drawings and starred at Mackie, surprised to see her conscious. She sat up. Jamie turned to her awakened best friend.

"Mackie?!" She stood up.
"..Jamie?" She got up and hugged Jamie so tightly.
"You're okay?" Jamie asked squishing Mackie's face in her hands.
"Yes. I'm okay. My back feels weird though.." She said rubbing her back.
"Your back?" Jamie asked puzzled.

She new Mackie only got scratched on her face, so why would her back be numb?

"Is there a scar on my back?" She lifted the back of her shirt.
"No." She replied.

Coleen and ether watched in the background.

"What happened?" Mackie asked.
"Why was I cut?"

Jamie's face became red.

"Uhh... Um, a guy with a, knife came up and scratched you. Don't worry, he's gone now." Said Jamie.

Esther leaned foreword, looking Jamie in the eye.

"Really? I guy stabbed me?" Mackie asked, not believing this.
"No!" Esther called.

Mackie shot her gaze at her, then Jamie.

"Why are you lying to her?!" Asked Esther.

Coleen sat in the background not knowing what to do, or say.

"Are you lying to me?" Mackie looked deep into Jamie's eyes.

Her voice sounded hurt at the idea of being lied to. Jamie's face was pink. She looked down at Mackie and with a sympathetic voice said,

"No, I'd NEVER lie to you. You know that." She glared at Esther.

But she didn't care and was about to keep going until Jamie mouthed the words, don't you dare tell her. Shut it! Esther lost hope and replied with,

"Oh, yeah.. I forgot, never mind.." Coleen and her started gossiping.

Coleen didn't like the idea of lying, but the two knew Jamie was hiding it out of guilt. Mackie was confused though.

"I'm gonna rest.. My head hurts." She said bluntly.

Mackie climbed in bed then rested for a bit. Jamie rubbed her head. She didn't like we're this was going. After a week of hacking, Mackie finally got into the sound of the camera on Esther's strange advanced device. Coleen and Esther told her the truth in secret. She was only a bit upset before she forgave Jamie. They didn't tell Jamie that she knew, but they still let her listen to the noises. Strangely, Jamie didn't notice that she had found out and was listening to to the beasts growls when it, may have been scratching open her cheek. Mackie opened up the file and a bunch of low and high growls played. Some long, some short, some robotic and some dog. Whatever it was, it was disturbing.

"Listen!" Mackie called to the girls.

It was a bunch of heavy human breathing. Probably Esther's.

"I've 'unlocked' two breathing records." She said while opening the other one, which was faster and quieter.
"I think that's probably me.." Esther blushed.
"Wait!" Coleen called.
"Esther should show is the monster one more time." She announced.

They nodded then turned off the lights. Esther got the camera on and paused it in the blurry monster. It was big, black, white, wormy and hairy.

"It looks fake to me." Esther commented.

The girls leaned in to get a better view.

"Just a little." They added.
"Check for fingerprints." Jamie commanded.

Esther obeyed and hacked the little device more. The screen picked up a fingerprint.

"Yeah, there's one. But I don't know how to zoom in on it.." Esther said embarrassed.
"What do we do?" Coleen asked.
"Mackie, stop being so modest." Jamie said, looking at Mackie.

She blushed. Mackie grabbed the device and used her incredible skills to get it to read the fingerprint.

"It belongs to a man named Harrison Light." She said handing the small device back to Esther.
"Okay..." Jamie muttered in deep thought.

The next few nights, Jamie spent calling names to the workers. She was going to be released soon... They never really replied so she kept calling names to them. She also had a plan. She needs to know if they could hear her. While the other girls slept soundly, she scanned the room. She found the camera, but now she needs to find the microphone. At last! This was her lucky day. She found the microphone! Jamie decided she could sleep before continuing on with her plan.

The next day came quick. The girls barley ever remarked their dreams. When they did, it was about seeing their families again. The ones they were snatched from.
Jamie was back on the exercise machine. She was calling out to them. No reply, as usual. So she decided this might get them speaking.

"Hey girls, when are you setting off the explosives?!" She said loud and clear.

The other maidens looked confused.

"What did you say?!" The guards from the microphone screeched.

She smiled to herself.

"So you can speak and hear us!" She called up to them.
"We're not exploding anything. Just trying to get you to reveal yourself." She said again.

The man scowled, then went quiet again. Jamie went over to the other girls.

"We're gonna get out of here faster." She whispered.

Coleen, Esther and Mackie looked weirded out by this.

"What?" Mackie asked.
"Yeah, what are you talking about?" Coleen added.
"While you ladies were sleeping, I may have been searching the room and coming up with a plan." She whispered then smiled.

The girls listened closely.

"There are two or three I mean, three things to do." She stood up.
