Worthy woke up in the mud. His head was spinning. How'd he got there? He heard heavy breathing beside him. He looked over to see Shadow. He sat up and crawled over to her. She had a cut across her chest. He helped her up.

"Worthy" she said, looking shocked.

"Shadow, what happened."

"You got knocked out, we all thought you were dead. I was cut across the heart at the end of the battle, but we're both here, so..."

"You should get someone to tend to your wound." She looked down at her chest.

"I can do it, but, erm." Worthy knew what she meant so he left her. He looked around for other survivors but it appeared they were the only victims. No other bodies lay anywhere nearby. He picked up his discarded sword and then returned to Shadow's side. He turned back to Shadow but she wasn't Shadow. She was the horrifying figure of the Wyrm. Worthy gasped and held up his sword but as he raised it he saw the reflection of Shadow's body lying on the ledge where he'd found her, before the sword twisted and jabbed at him

 Worthy woke with a start. He reached for the drawer where he kept something he and Jolt had made before he'd left to join Conor and the others. He opened it and read through the letters.

"Hey Worthy, what you got there?" said Jolt from the door. Worthy passed the paper to him. Jolt smiled. "Oh, you still want the girl" he said. Worthy blushed but nodded. Jolt put a hand on Worthy's shoulder "There's a party later, as you know. If you want we can sing this. Stead's looking for singers." Worthy looked up, unable to keep the smile off his face.

"Really?"

"Really."

So after the two boys found a quiet space they began practicing. It was fun, Worthy knew that, but he just couldn't sing, so he was glad Jolt was singing too.

"Shadow, I promise I will be there for you" they sang. Worthy knew Shadow was a good singer but was she good at judging singing? He hoped not.

Worthy stood behind the curtain with Jolt. He was singing the main part and Jolt was his backing singer. He wished it could be the other way round. This was only the practice with only Talon and Stead as the audience. It was as big a party as the surprise one Stead put on for them, that hadn't gone well with Dawson, mabe even bigger. He couldn't do it. He waited till Jolt wasn't looking then he ran back to his room. He sat crying, and through his tears tried to sing.

"And even if it is the *sniff* last thing *sob* I do" then he burst into tears. Someone knocked on the door, probably Jolt. "I just can't do it!" he confessed.

"Can't do what?" It wasn't Jolt, it was Shadow. He grabbed the paper so she wouldn't see it. Too late.

"What's that?"

"Nothing."

"Fine, if it's nothing why are you crying and not wanting me to see it at the same time?"

"Fine, it's a song I wrote." She looked up, surprised.

"You wrote a song?"

"It was mostly Jolt." She read through it then put her arm round Worthy.

"This is amazing."

"Jolt did most of the work" repeated Worthy.

"I don't care, you wrote me a song!" she hugged him "It's so good, so why are you crying?"

"I just can't sing."

"You can."

"No I can't."

"Listen Worthy, you've sung before, I've heard you. Just imagine what a girl might think if you sung it to her."

"I can sing it to one person."

"So what's the problem?"

"Jolt and I were going to perform it in front of everyone."

"You were going to sing a song in front of everyone," said Shadow, shocked, "for me?"

"Yes." Worthy nodded. She threw her arms around him and smiled.

"Thank you. You didn't have to do that." She smiled. "Besides, you aren't the best at performing." Worthy rolled his eyes. Then Jolt entered.

"So you got the girl I sent you" he said.

"Jolt!" scolded Shadow.

"Well I asked you to check on him."

"Why didn't you just come in?" asked Worthy.

"I-I erm, thought you might be mad. And the claws." He smiled a sheepish smile.

Worthy and Jolt stood on the stage. Everyone was there. Conor was staring at him as if he was a ghost. His brother was smiling at him. Abeke and Meilin didn't seem as surprised as the boys but Talon was laughing.

"Quiet!" yelled Stead. Everyone hushed. "Tonight we are quite low on acts, so two of our own have volunteered to sing a song they wrote after we defeated the Wyrm. Enjoy." He turned to the boys and whispered, "Whenever you're ready." Then he jumped off the stage and went to stand with Soama.

"Right, we got this, man" said Jolt.

"Yeah, we got this" said Worthy. Then he began. "My crush's a secret nobody knows." No one moved. "But it's harder to keep it the more that it grows." His brother was grinning at him madly. "Now every day I am worrying."

"You are taken from me." Jolt joined in.

"But I don't want it to keep me"

"From pursuing my dream." He was grateful when Jolt sang as well.
