19. The Results Of Several Things
"What are you reading?" Breadon asked as he slid down beside Calvin.
Calvin replied without looking up from his phone, "A fanfic. A really terrible one at that."
"Then why are you reading it?" Calvin didn't answer.
Braedon read a bit over his shoulder, "So, who's this jerk?" He pointed to the story.
"Percy Jackson. He's not a jerk. It's just that the author is a..."
"Did you just curse?"
"I think you need a hearing aid. I didn't."
"Well, you did in your mind."
"'course"
"Calvin McKay, the civilised person....cursed in his mind."
"Of course I did, I am also a human."
"....."
"....."
"....."
"....."
"No Braedon, no matter how many times you repeat it, I'm not a frog."

"You guys can find the way, right?" Heather asked with concern.
Both of Calvin's parents and Mathew had gone to work early, promising that they would be home early to celebrate the result of their segregation.
Susan rolled her eyes, "Yes mom. Don't worry. I know my way around the city."
"You do, right?" Calvin asked, "because I don't remember anything."
"Sheesh, have some faith in me, dummy."
"Hard job."
"Very funny." Susan said flatly, "Come on now. Gosh, I am so nervous. I shouldn't be nervous. We know the results."
"I don't."
"Yeah, yours is a bit murky." Susan said, as they walked down the road, "I mean, the coach liked you, so it's a big influencing point, but he's not the one who makes decision, you know?"
Calvin was starting to regret writing his practical notes on the math test. "Ugh, why did I make those jokes in the paper?"
"What jokes?"
Calvin told her about his answers. Susan laughed, "Only you, Calvin, only you."
They walked for a little while in silence, Calvin observing the bridges and the half flying elementals.
"Hey, did you know, a family is coming to live with a us?"
"Really? Great." She said, as if there was nothing weird in it.
"Wait, is that...like, normal in the elemental world?"
"Yeah. Humans don't have servants?"
Servants? Oh that made so much more sense. Why didn't his parents put it like that?
"Well, yes. But usually, humans have maids that do the work and then go home. Like a job, you know? That too in the richer section of the society."
"Oh. That's how it is in our world too. But most high level nobles have live-in servants. Not so surprising." Susan said.
Calvin thought back to the historical fiction he has read on wattpad. He realised the elemental society is a lot like the medieval human time. At least, the kind portrayed in books.
"You guys have someone live with you too?" Calvin asked. He spent so much time at her place, and he didn't even know more than three people lived there. Admitted, he spent most of his time there making secret pillow forts, but semantics...
"I said high level nobles. We are like...the lowest of the low."
Calvin gave her a confused looked, "But you guys are loved more than all nobles. That's more important."
Susan smirked, "No need for that. I never said being a low level noble is a bad thing. Besides, we aren't the most loved nobles. Your family is, ignoring the royals."
"You are."
"How can you say? You've been here for what? Three days?"
Calvin recounted his conversation with 'that boy' again. Susan nodded. "It fine, dummy. Don't get too worked up over it." She said the word 'dummy' softly, as if insulting and consoling him at the same time, "He'll probably realize what he said was wrong when his dad get's a job."
"Yeah, I know."

"Good morning kiddos. Ah, looking at all these young and bright minds melt my heart." Principal potato said.
"Reminds me of councilor Alina." Calvin muttered.
"Who?" Susan whispered back.
"No one." Calvin replied back with a shake of his head.
"So kids, are you excited for your results?" A chorus of 'yes's rang out.
"Perfect." She help up a bunch of papers, and started distributing them by calling out names. Calvin's hand turned sweaty. What was his result going to be?
"Knight, Susan." The voice rang out and Susan squared her shoulders and went to take the paper. She came back with a smile on her face.
"Demon slayer." She told him.
"Congratulations."
Calvin's nervousness didn't reduce when all of the kids got their result, but he still didn't get it. His name started with a 'C'. He should've gotten it long ago.
"And last, McKay, Calvin!" She announced with a lot more enthusiasm than the others. Everyone's heads snapped up at the name, and almost all eyes scanned the crowd.
Calvin turned red, but used his body reading book knowledge and didn't show any of his nervousness from the outside. He climbed up the stairs and held out his hand to collect his paper. But she didn't give it to him.
She waved his sheet in the air.
"This guy here, just made history." Now she had the attention of the few kids she didn't.
"He has received an A in both the subjects. And not just an A, he passed both with a hundred per cent. A round of applaud for him." A really huge round of applaud followed.
The woman looked at him with warmth in her eyes, and she looked a lot less like councilor Alina.
"Congratulations. Here's your time table." She said, taking her mouth away from the mike.
Calvin smiled and took his and walked down the stage towards Susan.
Susan approached him, "Congratulations, dummy. And here we thought you were going to be a puerile."
Calvin smiled, not being able to form coherent words.
They spent the next few hours giving intuition tests and magic burst tests. Those whose parents were of the same species and already knew what they were, were allowed to go home.
In the first test, they had to guess answers to random questions that would involve intuition, like, 'I have a ball behind my hand. What colour is it?'
And anyone with more than a certain number of correct answers would have angel blood in them.
Calvin didn't have to take the second one, since he already had his fairy burst.
Susan told her they threw fireballs at her. It made her 'inner fairy come out', that's the wording she used. Turns out, it just looked like fireballs, otherwise were just normal balls, illusioned with magic to look like fireballs.

Calvin's parents and Susan's parents were both decked out at Calvin's home when they got back. Mathew had put up a really noticeable note on Susan's door that said they were all at Calvin's.
Really noticeable.
Like, huge, neon yellow, flag waving noticable.
There were magical, fluorescent arrows all pointing towards a room in Calvin's house. Calvin rolled his eyes. Couldn't they have just let a note that said which room to go to?
But when they entered the room the arrows pointed to, Calvin got the surprise of his life.
It had been a bare room when he had come wandering through, but now, it was entirely transformed. It looked like a mini-human theatre. They had attached a while sheet on one side of a wall and a projector was hanging in the middle of the room.
The screen was open to Calvin's desktop (which showed a picture of Solangelo) and the adults were settled down in theater-like leaning chairs in dim light.
"Is this a human thing?" Susan asked.
"I mean, yes. But we don't have this stuff in our homes." Calvin answered.
His dad turned to them with a bright smile, "Welcome to our home theater. I've downloaded some movies based on your Netflix account's suggestions, so pick one."
"But before that," his mom said, "results!"
A huge smile reached Calvin's face as he remembered this exact situation happening a year ago when he brought home his report card. His parents were decked and ready with Frozen-2.
"I'm demon slayer." Susan went first.
Mathew gave her a proud smile, "Well done, sweetheart. I'm proud of you. Calvin? What about you?"
Calvin couldn't even hear himself over all four of the adult's cheers when he said he got A in both.
They had a fun night watching how to train your dragon (Calvin had watched it thrice already, but hey! It's that good) and explaining to Susan that no, dragons don't, in fact, exist in human world.
Tomorrow was Sunday and classes started from Monday.
Unfortunately that didn't mean a break for his parents, so they were still going, albeit a little late, since the servants were supposed to come the next day. He still didn't know how he felt about it.
The morning came bright and shiny, and his weird dream filled with shiny shoe wearing horses made him totally forget about the arrivals of the day.
So, when the bell rang and his mother said, "Ah, they must be here." he got the shock of his life.
