Chapter #1
A/N
So, here's another book. I thought I'd get going on it since I've already hinted at it. I have no idea what the update schedule will be like, so things may be a little slow. I hope you lie it!
A rough knocking wakes the prince, followed by a muffled and frustrated sigh. The Sorcerer Prince keeps his door locked, much to the servants' distaste. He is perfectly capable of cleaning his own room.
"Prince Seto, breakfast is being served in the dining hall. King Vincent expects you to be on time today", the servant is hesitant when yelling through the door, but she doesn't have much of a choice.
"I'mmph comphing......", Seto's reply is muffled by his pillow. He lifts is head up so that his eyes are just above the pillow, glaring at the door. He's not a morning person.
The prince stays in his warm bed for another minute before moving. He slips his feet out from underneath the blanket and shivers at the ice cold floor. Marble does have its drawbacks. Seto is still half asleep when he drags his blanket across the floor, wearing it like a cape on his shoulders. Nobody can tell him he's being childish if the door is locked. He trudges over to his walk in closet and stares numbly at the wall of clothing. Most of it isn't something he would choose on purpose, but he has to look somewhat like a sorcerer prince, even..... even if.......
Seto drops his blanket to the ground and pulls a gray dress shirt off its hook. He wrestles with his pajamas before finally getting changed. Seto wears the gray shirt with a pair of black pants and shoes. A small pendant dangles from his neck. It shows some sort of monster that went extinct in his kingdom. Seto trips over the blanket on his way out.
The bedroom blends in with the rest of the castle; it's lavishly furnished and decorated. The four poster bed is covered by the remains of Seto's light purple sheets. Purple has been the magic color of his family for centuries. Three large windows are set into the wall opposite the bed. There's a good twenty feet between the two. The prince can see his mother's garden from the window. All the flowers are blooming this time of year.
Seto is reminded of breakfast when he hears another servant shuffle past his bedroom door. At this point, they're loud on purpose to make sure he doesn't sleep in. The prince stops at his bed to pull a cloak down from one of the posts. It buckles at his neck, and the fabric is dyed a deep lavender just like his family's magic color. He's had it for years, and it's become almost like a comfort object.
He listens at his door for a moment before slowly opening it. If a servant knows that he's not in his room, they'll come and clean, moving all his stuff around so that he can't find it later. The hallway is gratefully empty. Seto closes his door and strides forward, his purple cloak billowing out behind him as he walks. He's been told that it gives him a strong presence, but he just likes wearing it. It's always been familiar and comforting to him.
The castle is made of three main floors. The first is for the kitchens, training grounds, servant quarters, laundry room, and the king's throne room. The second is for high ranking officials and guests. The third is mainly reserved for the royal family. Seto thinks it's a little lonely and empty. There's only so much that books can fill in. The Sorcerer Prince spends most of his free time amoung the royal library's many shelves.
A low murmur of voices drift down the hall as Seto gets closer the the dinning room. He passes a few servants who nod respectfully, and he smiles back at them. The dinning room is a large hall with a table going down the middle. Seto likes it better when they eat in one of his mother's small sirting rooms. They only use the hall for breakfast when father is hosting a meeting with his advisors. As expected, the king is sitting at the head of the table with several of his closet councilmen. The Queen is also there discussing some issue that Seto doesn't care to know.
King Vincent came into power just a few months before Seto was born. His predecessor was not a kind king. In fact, he actually used summoner magic to forcefully take the throne from the last Zemrlt King. That summoner contract kept alive for five generations. King Vincent was the first to overthrow him and take the throne. His purple magic is from his father, now three generations old. The entire continent was so messed up from the immortal sorcerer king that the division between hybrids is still strong. There's a lot of hate floating even in the capital.
Seto leaves an empty chair of space between him and the closest advisor. A servant was practically hovering behind him as soon as he entered the hall. She sets his breakfast down on the table and disappears as quickly as she came. Seto looks down at it, but he's distracted by a fork tapping on the table. He looks up to see his younger sister sitting across from him. She's only ten and eight years younger then Seto. Abigail smiles, pointing a fork at and advisor on her side of the table. Seto looks to see a small piece of egg in his hair. He bites his lip and looks away to suppress a chuckle. He can tell that his parents and the other advisors are also trying hard not to mention it.
This is going to be a long day.
