Chapter 6 - Questions
MARTHA'S POV
"Hey, George, do you think you could give me and Alex a little time together?" I ask my husband, a plan forming in my head. He nods, and I turn to Alexander.
"Alex, George is going to take your friends to my house- is that okay?" I ask whilst petting his head gently. Alex whimpers and I can see that he's scared.
"It's okay, they'll go to my house and we'll get them some clothes and something to eat, yeah?" I ask again, and this time he nods hesitantly. George steps towards the two hybrids on the couch and Alex stands, lip quivering as though he is going to growl.
"Sit down, Alexander. George won't hurt them, and I won't let the others near them. Don't panic." He whimpers but sits, and the French boy approaches.
"Mon ami, we'll be fine." He says, a strong accent present. Alexander opens his mouth and a pathetic whine comes out. They both walk out, a slight distance between them and George. I turn back to Alex.
"It's okay, Alex. You can shift if you'd like." I say sweetly, keeping my tone soft. If he shifts I can get him out of here and back to the house. He hesitates, looking me directly in the eyes. I hold his stare, allowing him to properly survey my face. I want him to trust me.
Alex moves backwards and sits against the wall, I turn around allowing him some privacy.
Once I turn back around he has shifted, and he has dark brown hair protruding down his back and was wearing a pair of shredded black sweatpants and a torn up dirty white vest top that was on the floor. Poor kid.
"Hey, Alex. You're so handsome. Do you want to get some new clothes from my house? I'm sure I have some warm jumpers or something." I hum, and he slowly walks beside me.
We walk out of the building, and Alexander gently grasps my hand when people pass. We got into my car and I lie back the seat for him to relax in. He remains silent the whole journey.
Once we reach the house I pull the car to a stop and tell him that we've arrived.
Alex scampers our of the car, wobbling as he walks quickly to the door. I follow behind him quickly, unlocking the door and entering first.
"George? I'm home, I brought Alexander." I say, voice louder than normal but not sharp- as to not frighten the hybrid hiding behind my back.
"On the couch." He whisper-shouts in return, and I start walking into the living room.
Once I enter I see he two other hybrids curled together, sleeping soundly under one of the soft blankets we keep next to the coffee table. Alexander quietly runs up to them and checks them over, looking for any signs of injury or discomfort. When he's satisfied he moves backwards, putting the blanket back over the two gently.
"Alexander, can you follow me? I need to get you some new clothes." I ask and extend my hand out which he grasps quickly. He's a very sweet boy, and I wish he didn't have the start that he did. Can't change the past though.
We slowly trudge upstairs, flicking the lights on and entering mine and George's bedroom. I search through some drawers, and eventually pull out a pair of loose sweatpants that don't fit George anymore. I also find a loose t-shirt from some sort of convention or show, not that it matters.
I pass both items to Alexander and he takes them, a noise of sadness coming from him when he looks at his torn t shirt.
"It's okay, Sweetie, do you want some help?" I offer, knowing that he's weak and probably struggling. He nods and I begin to lift his t-shirt off. Once it all of the way off I can see his ribs poking out, bruises and scars line his chest and he is way too pale to be healthy. He wraps his tail around himself and looks at the floor in embarrassment.
"Ready? I'll help you put your t-shirt on. Okay, 1, 2, 3" I say, sliding it over his head and ears, whilst he slides his arms though the holes.
"Do you want me to cut a hole for your tail? It'll be much comfier." I inquire, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
Alexander nods and I grab a pair of fabric scissors. I go to slowly cut the pants and he whimpers when I put them near his back.
"It won't hurt, sweetie. I won't touch you. Stay still." I command, voice still soft and reassuring.
I close the scissors and create a thin hole, gently pulling his tail through.
"See, now isn't that better?" I ask, not really expecting an answer. He nods his head slightly, and if you weren't watching him closely you wouldn't have seen it.
"Come on, let's get you downstairs" I place my hand at the small of his back and he flinches, but I don't mention it; I don't wanna make him any more uncomfortable than he already is.
We walk downstairs and he gingerly sits on the edge of the couch.
"Alexander, can you answer a couple of questions for me, sweetie?" I ask kindly, silently pleading that he'll comply. He nods his head.
"Okay, don't panic- if you don't want to answer you don't have to. We're not forcing you to do anything." As per usual we get no response, and his eyes are trained on the floor. His body is shaking and his complexion is extremely pale.
"So, can you tell me your full name, sweetie?" No response.
"Okay, that's okay. Have you got any family?" No response.
"Do you have any friends?" No response.
"Alexander, are you three the only ones?" I ask sternly, but keep my voice soft. His eyes start to water and he lets out a heartbreaking sob. He shakes his head and curls into himself.
Maria awakens at the sound of Alexander's cries, and quickly runs over to him, pulling his head to her chest.
"Shhh, it's okay. Count with me, yeah? Ready? Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf." Maria repeats the tune and Alexander settles.
"Good. See, remember your mama? She's be so so proud, you have helped so many people. Me, Laf, Navi, the cubs, Seabury... everyone. You Alexander Hamilton are a hero." She coos, moving his chin to face her with her two fingers. He smiles a weak smile and suddenly goes limp in her arms, and she panics.
"Alexander? Alex?! ALEX PLEASE?!" She begs whilst shaking him. I rush forward and take him off of her and place him on the floor. After putting him in the recovery position I ask George to take care of him.
"Shhh, he's okay sweetie, he's just tired. That's all. He just needs a nice long sleep. Yeah?" I coo and hold her head against my chest, running my hand through her hair.
After that Maria and Lafayette both fall asleep, whilst George monitors Alexander.
What a crazy day.
