Bruce Huang (Castle):
"Did it?" That's not Miranda's voice. Against my better judgment, I looked up to find Minhyuk glaring at me. That little wuss. Glancing towards his right I found Miranda, looking uncharacteristically small with the knife at her throat. Okay, maybe he's not a wuss.
"Minhyuk." Stephanie's voice had hardened as she faced him. So the princess decided she has some guts. Maybe it's the new hair.
"Wow, you can pronounce my name now. Maybe you actually did something useful with your time."
"Says you! What are you doing now, serving the camp?" So we're going the route of a preschooler's argument. No matter what, I couldn't keep my eyes off the knife hovering at Miranda's neck. I caught her eye, looking for some sign that she knew what was going on. She rolled her eyes and suddenly I understood what her plan was. There was no need for me to step in.
"You left me here! You left San here! You fucking abandoned us and got a boyfriend instead of helping us!" His grip tightened, but I could see the tears in his eyes. I've never seen him cry before. Must have gotten that from his dad.
"You know about Luke?" Her voice shook and I couldn't help but sigh. Should I step in?
"Who? Oh the boyfriend? He's dead now." His attitude had shifted from the hysterics of a child who missed nap time to that of an apathetic teenager. This boy can't control his emotions. I thought he would have learned that already. I glanced at Miranda again to find her yawning. The children before us were too preoccupied to notice.
"You killed him?" Her voice had risen in pitch, to the point that if it was any higher, I might have to cover my ears. Where did I put my earbuds? I really don't feel like asking Minseok for another pair.
"I didn't. I just read the report." Oh, that was my report. I could instantly think of the half a million grammar mistakes I had made on purpose. At the time, I thought it would be funny, the lecture from baldy, however, wasn't. Since I knew the recipient, I figured it wouldn't matter, but apparently, they removed my name from the document so Minhyuk threw a hissy fit.
"You're working for the enemy! How could you?" Does she get all her lines from shitty action movies?
"And? As far as I know, you're the only enemy here." Then again, Minhyuk's not any better.
"No! You are!"
"Who ditched their brother to go flirt? Not me." Oh my gosh, they're literally five-year-olds.
"You betrayed us! You turned us in!" Well that's odd. I'm fairly certain that's not what happened
"Really Steph? You think I'd turn you in?" He paused, letting out a laugh. "Honestly, you would have gotten caught on your own." True. It was almost like I was watching T.V. with how dramatic everything was.
"You didn't turn us in? I thought-," Stephanie had visibly relaxed, though the confusion on her face was clear.
"Seriously? I wanted the fuck out of here just as much as you did." Minhyuk straightened his back. "Obviously you didn't care since you left us behind."
"I didn't mean to! You and Santiago were already unconscious. If I stayed, I wouldn't have been able to come back and save you!"
"First off, that's not what I remembered. I distinctly remember you leaving early and ditching when the guards showed up. Second, who says I need saving? My father knows exactly where I am."
"No? You guys were knocked out. Considering that you've probably been brainwashed I don't think you remember correctly."
I can't take this. Fucking communicate and get this over with.
"For the first time, Stephanie's actually right. You got dragged into the auditorium after you saw what happened to the campers." Shit. Why did I say that?
"What?" Minhyuk let go of Miranda who almost immediately walked over to my side. He turned back to Stephanie in disbelief.
"I vote we sit here and watch them argue it out," she whispered to me. Smiling, I threw my arm around her shoulders as we plopped onto the bed.
"It's like watching a sitcom." Even though I had been gone for less than a month, it felt so much longer. Miranda hadn't changed all that much, though I knew the voices in her head hadn't disappeared yet. She was warm, even though she was only wearing a tank top. I, however, was freezing with my layers upon layers. Her hair was as fluffy as ever and her eyelashes were coated in mascara, making them amazingly long. Pulling her closer, I could feel her heartbeat.
"You okay?" I almost laughed at myself. One misstep and we could both be killed, or worse, kept in the kitchen. Who could be okay in this situation?
"Am I ever?" We watched the two argue as I occasionally flinched at Steph's shrill voice or Minhyuk's cold tone. I was tempted to pop my earbuds back in and listen to some music, a nice contrast to what they were currently putting up with.
"For all I know San's dead because of you!"
"No, he's not!" Here we go. Minhyuk paused, curious. It was clear on his face that this was news for him.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"I literally just saw him with Trigger today." I looked down at Miranda, who had rested her head in my lap. She smirked at me before turning back to the scene before us. So that's what they were doing.
"Prove it."
