First Day

First day of school. I'm in England. Woah.

"You ready to go?" My mom yelled from the living room. I was in my room.

"Hell yeah!" I yelled while running down the stairs.

"Watch your language dear." My mom scolded me while handing me my bag.

"Sorry mum." I tried to do a British accent. "Do you think this will fool anyone. I reckon it might."

"I reckon not so much." My mom mocked me. "Now, go catch the bus."

"Ok. I love you mom!" I said as I closed the door and walked to the bus stop. I noticed my cat started following me.

"No Lenny. I have to go." I said while bending down to pet him. He was a white and grey cat, he was very nice. He started to meow. "Len. Go home buddy." I said pointing to my house, he finally obeyed kinda. He sat there and watched me go on the bus.

While trying to find a seat, a boy with a pack of females around him tried to trip me. The girls laughed, when he tried. However, I saw it coming so I just walked over him.

"Nice try." I giggled.  He didn't seem to care. The people around me started to whisper to eachother. I caught one of the conversations.

"What's John doing on the bus?" And " That girl's American."

A small mousey boy scooted over and patted the seat next to him. "Hi I'm Tim." He smiled.

"I'm Y/n." I sat next to the younger boy. "What year are you in?"

"Uh ninth." I nodded. "So you must be from America." I nodded again.

"Whose that boy up there?" I asked, discretely pointing to him.

"John Lennon." He said. I started laughing. "Is his name funny or-"

"No. It's just my cat's name is Lenny."

"Oh." He laughed along. We talked for awhile, but then a paper airplane was thrown at me. I unfolded it.

It said redneck. I laughed at the attempt to make me angry. John was watching me. "Yeah my favorite past time is wrestling alligators." I said his way, laughing. He seemed angry that he didn't piss me off.

"Again, nice try."

"Sorry about him." Tim said. "He can be a jerk."

"It's funny. He can't get to me and he's angry about it."

"Yeh, but he can get really mean." Tim frowned.

"Thanks for telling me Tim." I smiled at him, and he returned the smile.

We soon got to the school. I was really excited, but also anxious. Tim and I were one of the last ones out. John was waiting, some of his possy still hung around him.

"You think yer a smart one, huh?" He folded his arms. "What's yer name girlie?"

"Wouldn't you like to know." I said, while walking right past him.

"Wait, I like smart asses." He scoffed.

"Well I don't like asses." I turned my head to look at him. "You think you're a funny one, huh?" I mocked then walked away.

"Woah." Tim was surprised for some reason. "You stood up to a bully."

"He's not a bully." I laughed. "He's too soft. He just likes messing with people. I can see right through him."

"I think you're right." A girl said, who was near us. She was pretty. She had emerald green eyes and black hair. "I'm Susan." She smiled.

"I'm Y/n." I smiled back.

"I knew him well." She frowned. "Then he became...popular."

"Oh I'm sorry." I pitied her, I know what it's like to lose someone.

"He's a good guy. His 'friends' said bad things about me to him. At first he stuck up for me, then he started to believe them." She looked over his way. "It's not his fault."

"He should've trusted you."

"Well, I kinda wasn't perfect. I was a bit of a rebel you might say. Now he's more of a rebel." She rubbed the back of her neck.

"I'm sorry Su-" The bell rang. It was time to scavenge to find my first class.

The tardy bell rang and I still couldn't find my class. "Where is it?" I muttered to myself.

"Not so perfect, eh?" I turned around to see John wandering the halls.

"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" I narrowed my eyes at that creep.

"Aren't you?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Touche." I nodded.

"What's yer class?" He asked, walking closer to me, grabbing my schedule out of my hands.

"Get to your classes." It was a stray teacher.

"I'm helping her." John said smoothly. "She's new."

"Oh. Well hurry." The teacher ran off somewhere.

"We have the same class. I'm ditching, wanna join me?" He asked, handing my schedule.

"On the first day?" I was shocked by this kid's attitude. I kinda like it.

"Yeh. Well? What's yer answer?"

"No." I said walking off.

"Yet going the wrong way!" He chuckled.

I groaned and walked his direction again. "Can you just tell me where it is?"

"Fine." He started walking and I followed. "I won't ditch today." He walked in the class.

"You're late Mr.Lennon." Some kids started to laugh as he sat down in his seat.

"Uh, he was helping me." I said awkwardly walking into the room. Kids started looking at John then back at me. They started snickering.

"Ahh you're Y/n?" She asked and I nodded. "You're over there by Susan and John." I walked over and smiled at Susan.

"You didn't have to do that idiot." John leaned over and whispered to me.

"Just-" I sighed. "Whatever."

"I know your name now." He took my pencil off my desk and started to examine it. "Y/n."

"Can you please-" I started to say.

"John." The teacher said, John smiled at her. "Give Y/n her pencil."

"It's okay. I have another." I said reaching into my backpack. John looked at me, I think he was surprised.

"You really don't give a fuck, do you?" He chuckled.

"Basically." I said while writing my name on my paper. I noticed he smiled. What a creep.

It was time to clean up and get ready for our next class. John tried bothering me the while time, of course I didn't give him the reaction he wanted.

"Here's your pencil back." He held it out.

"Nah it's okay. Keep it." I said while putting today's notes in my backpack.

"You sure?" He asked, am I closer to finding John Lennon's sweet side?

"Yeah. I have plenty."

"Thanks." He said awkwardly, then hurried off to his group of friends.

"Woah." Susan laughed after he left. "What was that all about?"

"What do you mean?" I stood up.

"He totally digs you, and you totally dig him." She said as we left the classroom.

"Eww no way!" I denied. The more I thought of it, the more I realised I liked him. I denied it anyway.

"You guys are gonna be together." She predicted.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes. "You sound like my mom whenever I tell her about one of my guy friends." She laughed.

"Just saying you two would make a cute couple." She pushed.

"Fuck off." I laughed.

"Y/n Lennon." She teased.

"Fuck off." I repeated.

"Accept it." She pressed on.

Soon the early morning turned into the afternoon, which ment it was lunch time.

I decided to go outside since it was really nice out. I sat by a tree and noticed Susan with a group of people. So I didn't call her over, she had other friends.

"Are you lost again?" It was John, he was leaning against the tree. How long was he there for?

"No." I said, while trying not to make eye contact with him.

"Then why are you sitting all alone." He snickered, I could feel him starring at me.

"If you didn't notice, I'm not exactly popular like you." I remarked.

"So. That doesn't mean you have to be lonely." What is going on about? Get to the point Lennon.

"I'm not lonely." I lied. My 'friends' were hanging out with other people. I noticed Susan turned around and started laughing. Was she talking about me behind my back.  I stood up and started to leave.

"Hold on." John said. I ignored him and started walking inside. She can talk bad about me, but not when I'm there. "Y/n."

"What?" I stopped. I was trying not cry, not in front of these people. They can't get to me.

"I'm sorry." He said shyly.

I sighed. "It's fine. Besides, it's not you whose-" I paused. "Forget it." I saw Susan again, and John noticed too.

"Oh." John said. "Don't hang around her, she's bad news."

"I figured that out already." I started walking off again.

I heard him sigh, then I noticed he was walking with me. "Come sit with me."

"Look John, I appreciate the offer but I'm not into big crowds. I don't like huge friend groups, especially when they talk bad about you." I confessed.

"Some of 'em can be that way, but most of 'em aren't." He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.

"Thank you, but I kind of want to be alone right now."

"Okay. Whatever, you Americans are weird. Just, this was your chance and you blew it." He walked away. Was he trying to be tough again?

I walked into the school and sat down at an empty table. I started to eat, when a girl came over to me. Great.

"Hi." She smiled. "Can I sit with you." I nodded since I had food in my mouth. "Thanks. I'm Wendy."

"I'm Y/n." I said after swallowing my food.

"So you're the new girl, from America."

"Yeah."

"You got quite the reputation." She smiled again. "People are saying you're tough."

"Well, all I did was not trip on the bus when John Lennon tried to trip me." I laughed. "I also might have said stuff to him." I mumbled but she caught it.

She started to giggle. "I could never stand up to John. He's crazy."

"It seems that I am crazier than." I smiled.

"It does seem like that." She nodded. "I like crazy people though." She paused. "I think I would like John if he weren't so mean."

"Ehh has not really mean, it's more like he likes to mess with people."  She looked at me. "How he tries to make friends is by being annoying till they cave. He's an idiot."

"Oh." She looked around for a second. "I hear he has a crush on you." She whispered.

I started to laugh. "John Lennon has a crush on me?" She nodded. "That's funny."

"When guys are mean to girls, that's how they express their feelings to her. She explained.

"You sound crazy." I laughed again.

"Well, boys are crazy." She giggled.

Soon enough my first day of school came to an end. I got back on the bus, and John was in there already. He didn't try to trip me. Tim wasn't there, I heard he got sick. Poor kid.

I looked out the window, waiting for the bus to take me home when I felt someone sit by me. I looked over and saw John's dumb smile. "I thought you didn't like me."

"I don't. I just gave you a chance to hang out with the 'popular' kids as you put it." He chuckled.

"Aren't you the popular kids?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Some say. Some say were the dumb kids, other the rebels." He said.

"Why are you sitting by me?" I noticed some girls were looking at me then whispering to their friends.

"I thought we could start over." He folded his arms and gave me a smile.

"I don't know." I said.

"Don't you wanna be friends with me?" He motioned to himself.

"I don't really like douchebags." Some kids started to laugh. He laughed too.

"I'm a douchebag?" He laughed.

"Yeah." I scooted farther away from him. He started kicking my foot. "Can you stop."

"No. I'm a douchebag." He continued kicking me, I just ignored him and store out the window.

Then he started poking my neck with the pencil I gave him. I suddenly grabbed the pencil out of his hand and started to bug him.

He started laughing. "You're kind of a douche too."

"Whatever Lennon." I said while trying to get over him, we were at my stop. "Dude I have to go."

"Then go!" He laughed as he kept me from leaving. Finally I freed myself and left the noisy bus. My cat ran up to me.

"Hey Len." I kneeled down and picked him up. I looked at the bus leaving and saw John watching me. I waved at him and he shook his head, and turned around. He had a big grin on his face. What's with that kid?

I went inside my house, cat in hand, and sat down. I got out a book and started to read. My mom wasn't home. She told me she'd be home late tonight. I would be in bed by the time she got home.

It was sad. We moved here two years ago and I've done homeschooling until this year, when my father died. We moved here for my dad, he'd get paid better here and my mom could find a good job. Then my dad passed away from a car accident. I miss him so much.

I couldn't read because I couldn't stop thinking about Lennon and my dad. Lenny jumped up on my lap. I also couldn't stop thinking about the rumors that have already been spread about me. Maybe public school was a bad idea.

I picked up my ukulele that my dad gave me. It was his and it was really old. It was so fragile that it could break any second. I started strumming on it. It was the only thing I had left if my dad.

I had dinner and went to bed. Today was a strange day.
