Welcome to the city of Dunmai, capital city of Arcadia, home of the University of Wizardry, birthplace of Bloise the Brilliant, international melting pot of species... and one of the most heavily crime ridden cities this side of the Mai river. Hey, we can't all be perfect.

Located on the Eastern coast of the Dunleo sea, right at the mouth of the Mai river in fact, Dunmai has made its name not only for its trade routes and fishing but also for the numerous theatres, taverns and its world class textile industry.

And let's not forget about the University! Many theories state that the University was here first and the city grew around it but this is simply a rumour that the higher ups on the University board want you to believe so they can extort the local taverns for free booze and food. The truth is, Dunmai was first and, when the local people refused to move so the wizards could build their campus, the wizards had to work with the land they were given, which at the time was said to be cursed and tended to be avoided at all costs.

Dunmai is affectionately referred to as The City Of Second Chances and, less affectionately, as The City Of Poor Decisions. This is mainly due to the number of species exiles (those who broke some taboo and were subsequently cast out) and Halflings living within the city limits.

While Dunmai does have a local guard, they are easily some of the most inept peacekeepers on the planet, easily bribed and more often than not involved with the crimes they are supposed to be stopping. Thank goodness for vigilantes or else the city would be overrun by its criminal element by now.

There are very few temples in the city, mostly due to people preferring to worship in their own homes or not worship at all, and the ones that do exist are typically related to water or knowledge gods of some kind. I mean, naturally.

All in all, despite the city's numerous faults, it is a welcoming place with lots to offer the curious traveler. We hope that you enjoy your time within our city limits and please, try not to steal anything that can't be replaced.
