Chapter 8
SOTC: I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
Chad's P.O.V.

Mar had his head in my lap as we watched t.v. I had my hand in his hair, boredly twirling it in my fingers.
"We should go do something today." Mar said while looking up at me.
"Like what?"
"Hm... I don't know. What do you normally do on a Saturday?"
"Hide in my room or hide at the library."
He pouted for a second then brightened. "Let's go to the mall!"
I frowned a little. "The mall? Are you sure? I mean... almost everyone from school hangs out there on a Saturday..."
"So?"
"Are you sure you wanna... be seen with... me? Wouldn't it ruin your reputation?"
He sat up and turned to me. "You really think I care about what those people think of me? I could care less to be honest."
"But-"
"And when we get there, I'll be right next to you so if they tell you anything, I'll be there to hurt them all right?"
I giggled and nodded. "Ok."
He smiled and stood up. "Let's go then. We'll walk to my house and get my car then we can go."
I nodded and stood up. As soon as I did, he grabbed me and slung me over his shoulder. I gasped as he steadied me.
"Marshal!! Put me down!! I can walk you know!"
"Nah. You're good." He walked out the house and closed the door behind him. "You might wanna hang on though."
"Hang on for wha-" Before I finished talking, he started running down the street. I let out a little scream as I gripped his shirt. He started laughing and just ran faster.
In a matter of 5 minutes, we made it to his house and he set me down. I punched him in his arm.
"Never do that again!" He just laughed and walked inside. I sighed and followed him, while looking down.
"Maaar! You're home!" I heard that annoying voice and froze. Oh no... not HER.
"Eliza... Why are you in my house? Without me?! How did you even get in here?! Chad, why are you still by the door? Come on." I looked up at Mar and shook my head no. He raised his eyebrow.
"Ugh. Is he stalking you now? Damn perv. Why don't you get out of here? No one wants you here anyway. Just leave fag!"
Before I could turn around to leave, I watched Mar grab her by her shirt and pulled her close to him. "Don't you dare talk to him that way! Do you hear me?! No one wants YOU here, so why don't you get the hell out of my house?!"
Mar let her go and she quickly ran out the house. He slammed the door behind her and locked it. Somehow feeling like this was my fault, I hung my head and held my arm.
I felt a pair of arms wrap around me from behind, causing me to sigh. "I'm sorry Mar..."
"It's not your fault. Don't let this bring you down Chad. She's not worth it." He squeezed me before he let me go. "I'll be right back okay? Then we'll go."
I looked up and nodded. He ran up the stairs to his room. I heard his keys jingle as he came back downstairs.
"Let's go shall we?" He opened the door and bowed. I laughed and walked past him. He closed the door, made sure it was locked and walked with me to his car. He unlocked it and we got in.
As soon as he started it, I reached for the radio. I started laughing when Hotline Bling came on, and Mar started singing along as he drove down the street.
"Ever since I left the city you-" He poked me in my side. "Got a reputation for yourself." I laughed and he started laughing too.
This might be the first mall trip where I'll actually have fun.
~Marshal's P.O.V.~
I parked the car and turned it off. I turned to Chad who had gone silent. He must be thinking about Eliza.
"Chad, if you're thinking about earlier, don't because-"
"I was jealous because I thought you and her were a couple..."
I stared at him. "Why did you think that?"
"Yesterday... when I was leaving with Jack, and saw her put her arm around your waist, you didn't push her away..." He looked out the window and I noticed him shaking a little. "I've... I've loved you since Freshman year Mar... But, I knew you never felt the same way. When we started talking last month, I thought you started to like me back, but yesterday... It broke me when I saw that..."
I looked at him... He confessed that he loved me... I gotta tell him now. I opened my mouth to talk, but he started again.
"It's ok if you never want to have anything to do with me anymore. I won't-"
"I love you too, Chad."
His head shot up and he looked at me, shocked. "W-what? Then you're-"
"Yeah... I'm gay. I did notice you in freshman year Chad, but at that time, I did care about my reputation more than I do now. But, when I would see you, I wanted to reach out and just hold you. But I didn't. When I would see you getting bullied in the hall, I would get so mad that when I went to football practice, I would take out the anger on whoever did it to you. Then when I would see your scars I would get so sad that I would go home and beat myself up for not helping you. But I still never talked to you. I guess seeing you getting hurt last month made me crack. I knew I had to help you."
I looked at his face and saw him crying. I wiped the tears off his cheeks, but kept holding his face.
"I love you... I love you so much Chad. I can't believe it took me two and a half years to tell you, but I'm glad I did." I stroked his cheek and started to lean in. He closed his eyes as I pressed my lips against his. After a couple seconds, he started to relax and kiss back.
I started making a list in my head after a while.
This is for all the times you've been hurt and I never helped you.
This is for all the times I wasn't there when you needed someone.
This is for driving me crazy without doing anything.
This... is because I love you.
He was the first to pull away. "Marshall..."
I smiled and wiped his eyes again. "You've made me happy Chad."
"And you've made me happy Mar. Anytime I'm around you I'm happy. Thank you Mar... Thank you..."
I kissed him again. "You're welcome. Now let's go have fun."
He giggled as we got out the car. When I walked to his side, I grabbed his hand. He smiled up at me and I smiled back. We started walking to the doors and I felt him start to tense.
"Stop worrying. I'll protect you." I held his hand a little tighter and he gave my hand a squeeze. Right after he did, he relaxed.
I want someone to tell us something. I dare them to try anything. I smirked a little as we walked in. I'm ready for anything.
