Part 7 The Mistake

"Wesley!" A voice on the other side of the door cried, "Please let me in!"

Joanna said in a calm voice, "I think you have the wrong room...."

There was a slight pause, as if the person was checking their surrounding. "Oh. I guess so. Sorry." The voice paused again, "But can you still let me in?"

Jo thought for a bit and decided that there wasn't really anything to lose. So she opened the door.

On the other side was a girl with short choppy black hair and pale skin. She had bright emerald green eyes, which made Joanna jealous. Her own eyes were a plain, ugly brown. The girl looked to be about her age- but maybe just a bit older. She was wearing a black shirt with some kind of blue abstract design on it, skin tight jeans, and a pair of dark red Converse. She wore long, dangling earrings with small gems on the end of chains, and a thick bronze ring on her right hand. She smiled at Joanna right before she walked in and closed the door. She walked over and flopped on the bed.

"So. What's your name?" The girl asked her.

"Joanna. But if you want you can call me Jo."

The girl laughed. "That's funny. My name Carly, but people call me Carl. If you ever hate being called a man's name, remember that you have it easy!"

Joanna laughed with Carly. "So why were you desperately pounding on my door?"

"Oh yeah. That. Well I had a bit of an argument with Aaron, so while he was gone I hacked into his handset and made it say 'Your wrong!' every time he gave it a command. I was just in the common area, until I saw him walking down the hall looking very angry." Carly smiled. "I don't regret it."

"What are you going to do when he finds you?" Jo asked her.

Carly shuddered. "Well, hopefully by the time that happens, I'd already have the handset fixed so that when he confronts me he won't have any proof."

"So I'm guessing you have a lot of experience with electronics." Jo said in awe.

"Yeah, my school had a few computers and a few a my 'friends' had handsets which I would mess around on."

"They let you mess around on their handsets?" Jo had asked.

Carly looked horrified. "Of course not! I had to steal them from their bags and slip them back at the end of the school day."

Joanna gasped, "Were you ever caught?"

"Well once or twice them noticed them missing," Carly snorted, "But they didn't worry too much. Their families have that much money."

"Wow," Joanna said in awe.

"I know!" Carly said, "But do you have any experience with electronics?"

Joanna shook her head, "Our school only had one computer, used for emergencies only. And the only people who had handsets weren't people I hung out with."

"Hmm..." Carly thought for a moment, "What state are you from?"

Joanna quickly replied, "The West States. You?"

"I'm from the Country States. What original names this country has!" Carly joked.

"So," Carl asked, "Who all have you met?"

Jo smiley weakly, "Only you and Natasha."

"Huh, I haven't met her yet. But I definitely think that you should meet Wesley."

"Well, let's go," Jo said.

So they both sneaked out of Jo's bedroom, and quietly stalked down the hallways. They had finely gotten to the common area when Carly froze.

"Carly, you better fix my handset now!" A voice rang out from the hallway behind them.

Carly and Joanna turned around, and saw someone who she assumed was Aaron.

Carly whispered to her, "I want you to run as fast as you can, when I say so."

Jo nodded and as Carl shouted, "SO!" she ran to the corner to her right.
