Seven.
"Last year of indescribable torture," I sigh standing outside of the school gates.
"Hopefully the girls are hotter this year," Aiden comments. Rebecca and I give him a look and he smiles awkwardly. I turn back to the gate and refuse let myself be swallowed up the huge wave of students pushing us slowly towards the monstrous white-bricked building.
"Well, let's go," Bec sighs and starts walking with Aiden. She turns back to me, grabs me by the arm and drags me into the mouth of the monster we call school. Once I placed my school bag in my homeroom as we usually do at the beginning of every year since we don't know where our lockers are, I join Rebecca and Aiden who are talking while leaning against lockers.
"Hopefully I don't get a trashy locker like last year," Rebecca says watching the ever-growing crowd of students walking past us.
"Have any of you guys seen Beckett?" I ask trying to catch a glimpse of Beckett's Brown short hair. He didn't drive with us today so I haven't seen him yet.
"No, he came early to make sure one of his teacher would give him extra credit or something," Aiden says. Geez, that boy really wants extra credit. Aiden walks off to go flirt with some girl and I turn to Bec.
"Sage!" Beckett smiles, walking towards me.
I smile back at him, He stands in front of me and I can already feel the eyes of the students staring at us, well Beckett. Even though most of the people in our year saw him last week that didn't fully see him since it was a party and most to the rooms had bad lighting and even if they did know it was Beckett they would still stare. He's gotten even more attractive if that was possible. His muscles looker larger and his skin is still glowing. Even I can admit that I was staring.
"Hey Beckett, How's life?" I ask trying to break my gaze.
"The same," He smiles simply, I raise an eyebrow. Is he oblivious to the fact that more the half the girls in this hallway are looking at him?
"Are you sure? Even Samantha's staring at you," I smile, Beckett looks slightly confused to why I would say that thankfully Bec saves me from explaining by hitting him on the back of his head.
"Your hot Beckett, people are staring at you because you're hot. How thick are you?" Bec asks. Beckett almost blushes but he turns it into an easy smile. Beckett looks around the hallway and all the eyes scatter away from him, He looks back at me.
"Samantha's glaring at you now," He smiles. I roll my eyes, Great. The bell rings signaling that its time to go to homeroom and the students scatter to their homerooms. I begin my little walk to my homeroom until the last person I want to talk to right now rudely interrupt me.
"That boy you were talking to a few seconds ago doesn't belong to you," Samantha states. I scoff.
"He doesn't belong to you either Samantha. Believe it or not but not everyone likes you and your hair extensions," I snap. Her hands touches her hair subconsciously.
"That boy's mine okay. You're not allowed to touch him!" She hisses pointing a finger at me. I push her finger away and roll my eyes.
"First, you have a boyfriend. Second, don't tell me what to do and third, you probably don't even know who he is," I say.
"How would I know who he is? He's new!" She states. I really want to hit her over the head right now but I can't get expelled for killing someone on school grounds.
"Beckett has been in your class since year seven," I snap. She stands there surprised.
"That was Beckett? Wow," She speaks. Her dumbness inspires my inner serial killer.
"Yes, it's Beckett," I say pushing past her and walking into my homeroom. Unfortunately Blade and Mason's in my homeroom so the train of stupid people continue's.
"You must be wearing space pants, 'cause your ass is outta this world," Mason grins when I sit next to him deciding not to sit next to Blade.
"Actually their softball pants 'cause my ass is way outta you league," I snap. I see Mason's mouth opening again and I stop him from talking.
"If I hear another pick up line or even words come out of your mouth I will punch you in the face and throw you into the garbage," I threaten. Mason holds his arms up defensively and I hear Blade chuckle in front of me. He turns around in his chair and smiles.
"You don't want to get on her bad side Mason. It's bad," He smiles turning his eyes to me. I give him a small smile. We continue to chat about football season and Blade's party; apparently the cops showed up and shut it down.
"Blade Wonderland wait up!" I call out semi running towards him. He turns around and smiles.
"Hey Sage," He smiles. I can't help but smile back at him.
"I was wondering when Footy trials are going to happen," I say as smoothly as possible. He raises an eyebrow.
"You can't join the team Sage, you're a girl," He says with a questioning look. I instantly lose all emotion other then anger, I hate being told I can't do things because I'm a girl. It's one of my trigger points. Anger boils in my veins and I immediately retaliate before I can think.
"What? I can't play football because I'm not a guy?" I snap, to be honest Blade look kind of terrified. He's seen me like this before; let's just say that he ended up going to the doctors.
"What? No!" He says defending himself. He starts to slowly back away but I follow him with rage.
"But I'm a girl so I am probably overthinking what you just said and thought you were lying so you do think girls can't play football! I girls cant play football then they can't hit properly, can we?" I say hitting his forehead.
"And because I'm a girl I can't kick properly, can I?" I snap kicking him in the rock hard stomach.
"Sage!" He yells clutching his stomach.
"And I'm a girl so I can't punch either!" I say punching him in the chest.
"And you think we can't be rough or snap back at you. You men expect us to cook in the kitchen and wait for our husband to come back home from his affair and serve him dinner and treat him like a damn King!" I yell.
"Sage! Calm down!" Blade says back to me.
"Oh and I'm a girl so I can't be angry or snappy because I always have to be happy and reply nicely to everything you say," I hiss. Blade generally looks like I am going to punch his lights out. I can see the fear in his eyes and his body is really tense.
"Sage! I meant you couldn't join because it's a guy only team!" He says restraining my arms before I hit him again. I drop my arms in realization.
"Oh," Is all I can say after my outburst. All the anger rushes out once I realize my mistake and I decide to turn my argument into a learning lesson.
"What did you learn today Blade?" I ask sweetly.
"That it's your time of the month," He mutters. I hit his chest in reply.
"Ok, Ok, that girls are even with guys," He says holding his arms up defensively.
"In fact we are better then you," I smirk. Blade smiles, I think he only smiles to make sure I don't hit him again.
"So when are they?" I ask again.
"They are this Friday after school. Starts at 3:30," He says without asking any questions. I nod and smile sweetly before I walk to my first class.
☆☆☆☆☆☆
"Are you actually going to try?" I ask Beckett.
"Yes, I'm actually going to try Sage," Beckett sighs. This is the third time I've asked him today and I'm still not positive that he won't do a runner.
"Believe it or not Sage, I am actually not completely horrible at Football," Beckett comments.
"Yeah, He's pretty good. He always dominates me," Aiden puts in. I look back at the teacher's notes on the board and continue to write them down.
"That's because you suck Aiden," I reply.
"After this class go home Sage, I'll tell you how I went when I get home," Beckett says copying the teacher's notes.
"Home? I am not going home. I need to watch you!" I reply.
"Creepy," Aiden mumbles, I turns and looks at him giving him a 'shut up' look. Beckett doesn't say anything back and the bell rings signaling the end of class and the end of the school week.
"See you on the field," Beckett smiles ruffling my hair with his hand and I push him away.
I attempt to fix my hair but give up. Once I grab school bag I make my way out onto the field and walk up the bleacher seats and sit right at the back. Most of the boys trailing out were in the team last year but there's a few whose trailing out for the first time like Beckett, apart from one scrawny guy all the guys were muscular and tall, Beckett muscle's where even bigger then some of the boys. A couple more girls climb onto the bleachers but sit far away from me wanting their privacy. I stare at the pack of boys and pick out Blade, Mason and Beckett from the crowd. Beckett seems to be fitting in easily; he's talking to most of the guys. He even spoke to Blade; well I think they were talking to each other.
It's about four o'clock so they only have half an hour left of trials. They started to play scratch games about ten minutes ago all I can do is watch how Beckett plays. He's really good, like really, really good. He's as good as Mason, possibly even better then him. He's not far off Blade either but Blade's the best guy on the team so getting to his level would at least need a year or two. In the corner of my eye I see a girl dragging an extremely hesitant girl to the bleachers, they finally reach the bleachers and I listen into their conversation.
"That's the guy there, the cute one with brown hair," The blonde haired girl say pointing towards the pack of boys, Beckett is among them.
"Are you sure?" The other more hesitant girl asks. I know I've seen her from somewhere but I don't remember.
"Yes, Charlotte, I swear it's him! You went upstairs with him," The blonde haired girl says. Charlotte... It's the girl Beckett was with at the party!
"Yeah okay, I see him now," Charlotte says. They must be talking about Beckett, who else went upstairs with a girl that has brown hair? Probably like half the boys, but anyway.
"Just go up to him after trials and ask him out!" The Blonde haired girl says.
"I can't! I can't speak when I am around him Riley!" Charlotte explains and her friend gives her a look.
"So you can't speak to him but you can remove his shirt? Charlotte c'mon, it's not that bad! He's a nice guy!" Riley remarks.
"Your friends right, he is a nice guy," I but in. They both look at me but Charlotte blushes.
"I overheard your conversation about Beckett. Beckett is actually my friend so I would know." I explain.
"You are the girl who helped him out of the house," Charlotte smiles. I nod.
"He keeps asking who you are but I didn't know your name till now," I smile back. It's true Beckett got some of his memory back two days after the party and kept asking me who she was, I didn't know but I promised I would find out for him.
"So Beckett likes her?" Riley asks.
"I'm pretty positive that he likes you, he keeps asking," I say. Charlotte blushes and Riley punches her arm playfully.
"See, told you," Riley smiles.
"Do you want me to tell Beckett who you are?" I ask. Charlotte hesitates but Riley rolls her eyes and drags her up the stairs until they sit in front of me.
"She would like that very much. I'm Riley and this is Charlotte, the girl who is helplessly in love with Beckett," Riley smiles. Charlotte blush reddens but she covers it up.
"I am not helplessly in love with him! I just wanted to know who he was and what he looks like," Charlotte defends herself.
"Honey, you don't need to see him, you saw him half naked," Riley points out.
I can't help but smile at these two blonde friends. Charlotte seems nice and shy; she's a pretty girl too. Her long blonde hair shapes her face well and her vibrant blue eyes make her smile shine as well. She has a skinny waist and thin legs and arms that are toned and tanned. Her friend Riley has wavy and darker blonde hair with shiny green eyes and freckles along her face, she's smaller then her friend but not too small either. They look like they suit each other and they seem like they have been friends for a long time.
"I'm Sage," I say.
"Nice to meet yak," Riley smiles.
"Nice to meet you too," I reply back.
"So you want me to tell Beckett?" I ask turning to Charlotte, she shakes her head after a minute of thinking and Riley sighs. After half an hour of babbling about Beckett and other boys the coach finally blows the whistle signaling the end of trials. I leave the girls and make my way down the bleachers and towards a sweaty Beckett.
"Hey Beckett, How was training?" I ask.
"Good coach says that I have the best stamina out of all the boys and I'm quite fast. He also said I hold my own for a new kid," He says smiling. I smile back at him.
"Well, that's good. If you ever get scared of the ball at least we'll know that your capable of running away successfully," I grin slapping his back. He looks at me and rolls his eye playfully.

"It's a playlist."
"A playlist of us, you called it."
"You said, each song links to a significant moment of us and our relationship."
» » » Maya Evansly used to have a spring in her step. She used to hold a look of excitement, strength and determination proudly in her eyes. She used to always have a song in her head. Keywords: used to. Now, she has the haunting memory of one tainted night, PTSD knocking at her door and a misconceived idea about trying, to replace everything that once made her Maya. The only common factor between then and now is her high school sweetheart and boyfriend of over a year; Wesley Grayson, or as otherwise know, Wes. Wes wants to remind her of what it was like to really be Maya, and especially, what it is like to try. So he gives her the playlist that documents the beginning growth of their relationship and asks she goes back and listens to the songs knowing that it will transport her back into the memories. Wes hopes that it will be enough to convince her to try and to take that first step back to the real Maya. But I think we all know how hard that first step is.
[ This book is structured so that you experience Maya's current struggles and listen to the playlist along with her, joining in the trip down memory lane to relive the beginnings of Maya and Wes' relationship }
