Heartbroken

GOOD MORNINGGGGGGGGG (or at least from where I'm from)

I had the weirdest dream last night. It was like a Miraculous, Avatar, my life, and Tell Me Three Things crossover.

This chapter is a little bit oof but I'll let you be the judge of the writing quality XD

⚠️ Light Smut (?) Idk what counts as smut. Please someone tell me if this counts as smut.

"I can't believe I actually managed to finish it all," Marinette sat back in her chair, hardly believing the sight of all her homework completed.

"You worked hard," Tikki smiled. "Now, all you need to do is enjoy your date with Chat Noir."

Marinette snorted, "With our luck, an akuma will strike the moment we sit down." There was a sad ring of truth to her words, Marinette realized. Usually, she did a pretty good job of ignoring it, but being superheroes, she and Chat would never have a normal relationship.

They would never meet each other's parents, which, granted, Marinette took as a good thing. But they also would never be able to stay over at each other's houses, do their homework together and go on normal dates. As much as she and Chat loved each other, their relationship would always be missing something. Perhaps the worst part about being in a relationship as superheroes was that she and Chat would never actually know each other. They wouldn't know what the other looked like or even what their name was. Just thinking about it was depressing.

Such a great time to be doubting your relationship, Marinette gritted her teeth as she put her homework away. Right before a date.

Creaking open the door, Marinette spotted Alya and Nino playing cards on the kitchen table. "I'm going to go out for a little," Marinette said. "I think tonight would be a great source of inspiration." She waved her notebook for Alya to see.

"Have fun," Alya said. "What's up with you guys? Adrien went out a while ago too."

Marinette shrugged, "Probably just another celebrity model outing." Nino snorted as Alya snickered, waving to Marinette as she slipped out the door.

Under the shadows of the apartments, there was a flash of blinding pink light, and the superhero in red and black zipped out, swinging between the buildings in the cool, dark night. Chat Noir was already there on top of their usual roof on a random apartment building. It was here where Ladybug first told him that she loved him back nearly a year ago, and from then on, this was their special place.

"Oh, Chat..." Ladybug landed soundlessly on the roof, the sight of the picnic making her forget to breathe. He had truly outdone himself this time. A red picnic blanket was spread, displaying a variety of food that ranged from sandwiches to macaroons, pasta to fruit. Under the dim, amber glow of the candlelight, Chat turned, smiling when he saw her.

"Hello M'lady," he walked up to her, and Ladybug tried to calm her racing heart as he held up a rose for her, crimson-red. Ladybug took the flower dizzily as Chat Noir pressed a sweet kiss onto her lips. "Shall we?" He murmured, leading her to the picnic.

Together, they spent the night in each other's arms enjoying the company as they ate to their heart's content under the majesty of the night sky. The stars twinkled at them from afar, like diamonds in a sea of indigo and navy. A warm breeze ruffled Ladybug's hair as she leaned against Chat's chest, their fingers intertwined tightly.

But Ladybug couldn't truly enjoy the night, not when she had other things on her mind, and the issues were only even more forced to light when Chat said, "My Lady?"

"Hmm?" She asked, opening her eyes to look up at him.

He wasn't looking at her but instead, staring into the distance. "I've been thinking," he said hesitantly, "wouldn't it be nice to know each other's identities? We've been dating for nearly a year, and yet all it's been are picnics like these. I love them, don't get me wrong. I love you, but I want to know more about you."

It wasn't the first time Chat had asked, it wasn't even the hundredth time. The question was brought up at least once every two days for as long as they have known each other. But somehow, tonight, it felt different. Perhaps Ladybug's own doubts played a part.

Ladybug sighed, her heart heavy as a boulder in her chest. "You know we can't Chaton..." she whispered. "Not until Hawkmoth is defeated. It's for our safety. I want to know you too, I want to know you so badly it hurts, but we can't. All this hiding, it's to keep our families and us safe."

"No one would know," Chat Noir buried his face into Ladybug's neck, noticing how her body shivered at the contact. "It's just us on this rooftop. Our secret would still be safe."

"You know it doesn't work like that," Ladybug gasped, feeling his lips on her neck as her hand gripped his hair. "We can't."

Chat Noir raised his head, his grass-green eyes mournful as they met hers. "What do we do then, M'Lady? How long will our relationship stay this way? Until Hawkmoth is defeated? But when will that be? It's been three years."

Ladybug swallowed. She wanted to take off her mask just as badly as Chat did. It was exhausting, having him so close yet so far at the same time. Ladybug secretly worried that one day, they wouldn't be able to stop themselves and they would put not only them but their families in danger.

The solution appeared in her mind, so simple yet just the mere thought of it was like stabbing a shard of glass into her heart. "We can't do this anymore," she whispered, the realization dawning on her as unwelcome as a fresh wound, the words so soft she barely heard them.

"What?" Chat Noir's voice caught, which only wretched Ladybug's heart even more, but now that the words had been said, it seemed ever the more apparent.

"We have to break up," she said, her voice surprisingly firm despite the breaking in her chest. She sat up and faced him, her eyes trained on the picnic blanket beneath them. "There has to be a distance between us, it's the only way to keep us safe. We can't do this anymore, all this temptation, it's going to break us. Our safety is our number one priority."

Chat's hand fell away, and Ladybug couldn't even bear to look at him. She didn't want to see the pain in his eyes and know that she was the one who caused it.

Look at him, Ladybug commanded herself. It's the least you could do.

Slowly, she raised her head only to see Chat Noir staring at her blankly. It was almost worse than if he was crying. He just looked confused, heartbroken, and at such a loss for words he couldn't even feel anymore. Ladybug's hands curled into firsts. It was as if someone had swung an eighty-pound hammer at her chest, and all her ribs were breaking, the shards of broken bones piercing her heart.

"No...Please..." Chat's voice shook like a leaf in the wind. "I won't ask anymore, I won't ask. This last year, being with you...It's been the happiest year of my life, I swear. Ladybug...I love you. Don't do this. Please." He raised his hands as if wanting to hold her, and Ladybug realized that they were trembling.

Ladybug's eyes filled with tears, stinging painfully as she tried to blink them away. "Chat," she breathed, taking his hands, "I—I love you too, but we can't. We just can't. It's not just you...I want to know you too much too. We can't take the risk." She cupped his face and kissed him tenderly.

The kiss that started soft and sweet quickly turned fierce with desire. Perhaps it was because of the rush of emotions or that they knew that it would be their last, maybe forever or at least a very long time. Chat's arms wrapped around Ladybug's waist, pulling her up against him as she buried her hands in his hair, tears still streaming down her face.

She didn't want it to end. The last year with him had been the happiest of her life too, but she knew what she had to do. As the Guardian of the Miraculous, she had to keep them safe, even if it meant breaking both their hearts.

So....how was it? XD

I'm going to ramble about my dream here if anyone cares.

So basically I was at this school near where I live but it wasn't even my school it was a different highschool. And then I guess I was new there and for some reason, it was a Fire Nation school just cuz there were a bunch of Fire Nation kids? I'm with a couple of real-life friends by the way.

So I go up to one of the fire nation kids and ask for help and he was super nice and asked my name and for some reason I pulled an Aang and said "Kuzon". Since we were in a cafeteria he showed me how to get the food? Idk XD.

So this fire nation kid lets me sit at his table with all his friends but my friend was going somewhere else to sit and I was like oh I can't just abandon him so I thanked fire nation kid and went to sit with my friend.

And then by the time I sat down I guess it shifted away from Avatar? Like suddenly Alya and Chloe were there instead of my friend and I guess I was supposed to be Marinette? Except this guy sitting next to me right, he wasn't Adrien. Like in my dream, his name was Ethan Marks (from Tell Me Three Things) but he didn't look like the way Ethan Marks was described in the book. He looked like an Ethan I went to school with in like grade four XD

So I guess me and this Ethan like had a thing or something and it was very similar to Jessie and Ethan's relationship in the books. Jessie's the main character in Tell Me Three Things. AND THEN I guess we had a math test and there was something about measuring the area of a human heart? Idk I swear I'm not crazy murderous or anything.

So I borrow Ethan's notes and then we go back to lockers cuz it was the end of lunch and then we were talking about something and we quoted something from Tell Me Three Things. I don't even remember what we were talking about but Ethan said "it really blows" and I said "yeah, it really f*cking blows"

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY. I DON'T EVEN SWEAR THAT MUCH IN REAL LIFE. And then we had our test and I remember panicking because I don't know what the hell is going on.

So yeah and then my alarm rang and now I'm just thinking about it like what the...
