.6. {Maya POV}

I knew our time alone together wouldn't last forever. But I couldn't help feelings disappointed when Riley spotted Lucas and Zay heading home from the basketball game.

"Lucas!" She called out. I stood up and followed her to where the boys had stopped to wait for us.

"Hello girls." Lucas and Zay said together.

"Hey Huckleberry." I smirked.

Lucas sighed and rolled his eyes. It satisfied me that I annoyed him. If I had to pretend to like him I was at least going to enjoy it.

Back in Texas I thought Lucas was going to die on Tombstone. I didn't want him to die because he was my friend, but I also knew that if anything happened to him Riley would be crushed. Afterwards when Riley came to me and accused me of liking him I couldn't let her know that I didn't want Lucas to ride for HER sake. Could I?

Well, either way I lied. I never expected her to tell Lucas. When she did and left us there at the campfire I was planning on telling him. I didn't want to date him. I didn't want him to like me and me have to turn him down and simultaneously crushing Riley. I almost said it too. But he interrupted me and so I started making fun of him hoping it would get him to drop the subject, and of course it didn't. He grabbed my face and ALMOST kissed me. In shock I stood there looking into his eyes. I didn't want it. I just wanted him to leave it, me, alone. I couldn't bring myself to talk again after that. So now I am still having to play along.

"How was the game?" Riley asked.

"It was great! We won 7-3." Lucas gushed.

"GO KNICKS!" Zay yelled shoving his foam finger into the air.

"HECK YES!" Riley screamed. There was a very limited list of things that made Riley violently passionate. The first was me and her other friends, the second was the Knicks. What can I say? The girl loved her basketball!

I just smiled as I watched the three talk sports. I was completely lost. I'd always been too lazy to take part in sports, and I couldn't follow a game worth crap. So I waited for them to finish before I entered the conversation.

I know this is an even shorter chapter but it just a filler to move the story along.
