.16. {Riley POV}

"Maya!" I smiled as I crawled into the window with Lucas on my heels. My friend was sitting in the middle of the bay window my parents on either side of her. Their heads whipped around to face me when I spoke.

"Riley, where were you?" Topanga asked.

"I took her to the park to calm her down." Lucas spoke as he crawled over me into the open area in my room.

"Well thank you for that." My dad smiled and nodded to the boy. I wondered why he wasn't chasing him out of my room like a cat after a mouse.

"I just had to come and see you." Maya said addressing me.

My mom stood up and turned to my father. "Cory, I need your help in the kitchen." She directed with a jerk of her head and a mischievous smile. My dad stood up with the same energy and awkwardness. They walked out of my room together smiling like idiots.

"YOU TOO CHUCKY!" My mom yelled from the kitchen.

Lucas laughed and rolled his eyes at my mother's nick name for him. He left my room and closed the door behind him. He gave me a small wink just before let the latch click.

My heart raced and my palms began to sweat. This was it, it was finally happening. I was going to tell Maya I was in love with her.

"I'm glad you came." I turned to her and took her hand in my own.

Maya gave me a reassuring smile and scooted closer to me to lay her head on my shoulder.

"Are you okay? Did your father hurt you?" I asked.

Maya chuckled. "No. He didn't hurt me. At least not physically." Maya sounded weighed down by something still.

"What did he want?" I asked trying to push down my anger.

"I really don't know. After you left he started saying all these mean things about us, I told him if he couldn't accept me then he should leave, and so he did." Maya said sadly.

"I am so sorry Maya." I hugged her closer to me.

Maya sat back up. "Why? You didn't do anything wrong."

"I'm sorry he did tat to you. " I explained.

My friend looked as if she was going to say something but couldn't.

"What is it?" I asked putting a hand on her shoulder.

"Riles, I have something I need to ask you." Maya said with tears pooling in her eyes.

"Of course, what is it?" I asked.

"Was he right?" She asked nervously?

My pulse quickened. "About what?"

"He called you a faggot, and accused us of being gay. Was he right?" Maya asked.

It was my turn to be speechless.

"I don't know Maya." I whispered with my own tears.

"Riles?"

"Yes?"

"That's why he left me." Maya sobbed.

"What?!" I objected.

"He said he wouldn't be the father of a gay. So I told him he'd just have to leave and never come back." Maya took a deep breath and tried to dry her tears.

"I don't understand." I trailed off. It seemed as if she was coming out to me but I wasn't sure. I needed verbal conformation.

"Honey," Maya did her best to smile. "I am in love with you!"
