.11. {Maya POV}
[A/N Maya's father in the actual series is an OK guy. This father is almost completely made up for the purpose of this story.]
Slowly I opened my eyes. My heart continuing to sink as I saw my father with my own eyes. He was standing with his back to the doorway. The mid day sun lighting him up from behind and illuminating him. He seemed almost heavenly if it hadn't been for the concerned look plastered on his features.
"Hey, dad." I sighed standing up.
"Maya, baby girl. How are you?" He asked rushing to hug me.
"She is fine!" Riley interjected placing herself in between me and my dad. Riley took my hand to comfort me. She knew hat even after I had forgiven him I still didn't like him or trust him.
"It-It's alright Riley." I whispered.
"You sure?" Riley asked staring into my soul with those chasm deep brown eyes.
"Y-yes." I stuttered partly because of how vulnerable my father made me feel and partly because I was getting lost in the sea of Riley's iris'.
"Okay." She nodded. "I will be right here if you need me."
"I know honey." I faked a smile and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
Riley stepped to the side and motioned for my father to hug me. He wrapped his arms around me and I did my best to hug him back. But I couldn't do it. Finally he backed away. The concerned look still present.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He shook his head.
"It's nothing. Just, uh... what was that?" He asked.
"What?" I asked genuinely confused.
"Your weird little friend here was sitting on you lap and you were holding hands." My dad observed.
I shrunk back. He was on to me. I knew it! He was going to call me out and I was going to say something I regretted.
"I-I don't know what you're talk-" I started to say, not looking in his eyes.
"HEY!" Riley interrupted me. She could see how upset I was. I knew she wouldn't let him make me uncomfortable. "This weird little friend has a name and it's Riley! And I don't like the way your talking to Maya." She defended me.
"What's going on?" Lucas asked. Riley's yell woke him from his sleep.
"Who is this?" My dad asked ignoring Riley's spiel.
"Lucas, this is my dad. Dad this is Lucas. My friend." I said still feeling small.
"Nice to meet you sir." Lucas said unsure. I watched as they shook hands and Lucas glared into the man's soul. "Riley, Maya, you guys okay?" He asked.
"I'm fine." I answered.
"No. go get Katy." Riley directed angrily.
My dad sighed. "You just can't stay out of things can you?" He fussed at my friend.
"EXCUSE ME!?" Riley scoffed.
"Dad, stop!" I asked scared that things would escalate and someone would get hurt.
"Why can't you just leave us alone. Why can't you leave Maya alone?" He yelled at my friend. My heart raced. My father and my best friend were in each other's faces fighting over me.
Riley had barely let him finish his sentence before she answered him, still yelling. At the same time my mom and Lucas can running out from the back.
"Because I love her!!!" She yelled.
I expect my father to respond with another yell but he just leaned back with a devious smile on his lips. "I see."
Riley stepped back as well. She looked like she'd said something she shouldn't have.
