Chapter 10

"And I saw the look in his face...(waves his prosthetic hand that held his fully cooked turkey bird as if he was praising himself) I was delicious. He must've passed the word because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg," he finishes with gesturing to his peg leg making the teens gasp in awe of what happened.

"Isn't it weird to think that your hand was inside of a dragon. If your mind was still in control of it, you could've killed it by crushing its heart or something," Fishlegs said in thought while banging his turkey drums against each other once as a demonstration while the teens, excluding Helen who was still deep in thought over her birth mother's gift, looked at Fishlegs with weird looks on their faces.

"I swear, I'm so angry right now," Snotlout declares angrily before continuing in his kiss up mode, "I'll avenge your beautiful hand and your beautiful foot. I'll chop off the legs of every dragon I fight. With my face."

"Yah, right. If you do that then where will your face be? Probably inside a dragon's stomach," Helen replied sarcastically not looking up at Snotlout's bewildered expression.

Gobber chuckles for a bit before saying "It's actually the wings and the tails you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. 'A downed dragon is a dead one.'"

His last remark was like a slap to the face for Helen. She really needed to make those adjustments on that prosthetic soon or else Toothless will die quicker than she can finish. Quickly, and quietly, Helen gets up and leaves the place with the box in both hands not realizing that Audun was watching her from the top of the stairs wondering why she left. When she made it to the forge, Helen placed down the box and began to make the adjustments to the prosthetic tail fin to make it look like it was Toothless's other tail fin and began making saddle arrangements as well as stir-ups to help control the fin.

By the time she was done, it was probably past midnight and Helen was yawning from a half a nights work. Would've gone quicker if my left wrist wasn't still injured, Helen thought angrily to herself with remorse.

Sighing and pushing that aside, Helen gathered everything up and cleaned up her workspace before heading home. Once she got home, she placed the prosthetic under her pillow and opened up the box once again. She took out the clothes and laid them gently onto her dresser in front of her bed. Resolving to place them on for later, Helen got under her covers and went to bed.

Waking up the next morning, Helen got herself ready for the day and readied herself for another lesson of dragon training. After that was done, she quickly headed out, with her sword in hand, and made it to the arena on time. "Today, you will be facing the Hideous Zippleback," Gobber announced before continuing, "Now, who can tell me what a Zippleback does?"

Fishlegs raised his hand in excitement for a while before Helen raised her hand quietly from the back. "Helen, what does a Zippleback do?" Gobber asked noticing her hand up and surprising the group.

"The Zippleback works as one dragon, despite having two heads, and is very hard to find a weakness within. But the one weakness it does have is if the one that lights the gas's head is wet then the one that breathes gas is weak without it and they go into retreat mode," replied Helen in a calm tone while walking forward till she was standing next to Fishlegs while finishing her sentence.

"Someone's been paying attention in reading," Gobber said in a praising tone before continuing, "Now as you all know that the Zippleback is extra tricky with one head breathing gas and the other one lighting it. So today is about teamwork and I've assigned you all into teams of two. Fishlegs and Audun. Tuffnut and Snotlout. Finally Helen and Ruffnut."

Everyone got into their assigned groups while Helen looked down at the ground to avoid looking at her best friend but got a light punch on the shoulder from Ruffnut before she said "This is gonna be so awesome, right Helen?"

(Snorts) "We'll be beating these boys down to the ground by the time the Zippleback is done with them," Helen replied in an amusing tone while whispering it in her ear.

Ruffnut cackled at that while Helen chuckled softly, while placing a hand gently over her mouth to hide it, before Gobber faked a cough and continued. "There are six buckets that are full of water and ready for you all to use so pick them up and lets get started today shall we."

Doing as they were told, the teens each picked up their water buckets and waited for Gobber to open the door to the cage of the Hideous Zippleback. After Gobber did so, the Zippleback didn't make itself known but instead opened the door by releasing a very big thick cloud of Zippleback gas. The group suddenly just split into their respective teams and were on alert of where the dragon could be. Helen looked around for the dragon but couldn't find it, even with her sharp enhanced eyesight, and grunted with a bit of anger. "Hey Helen, can you tell me anything else that I need to know about that Zippleback?" Ruffnut asks in a bit of fright but also trying to ease the tension.

"They prefer to ambush their victims so that makes them somewhat in the stealth zone and can easily hide themselves out in a veil of smoke to take their enemies out one by one when not being seen. So in other words they are a bit like the Nightfury but prefer to come out after they have narrowed their enemies easily down to the weakest one and take them out as well," Helen explained in a whispering tone looking left and right in the smoke to see if she could spot them.

"Anything else?" Ruffnut asks to pressure more information out of her before both of them hear a shout and water was thrown over them.

Helen let out a shout of surprise with Ruffnut and looked for the culprits only to see the smoke thinning away to show Tuffnut and Snotlout with their buckets empty looking guilty. "Hey, it's us idiots," Ruffnut said in a complaining and angry tone with them.

"Your butts are getting bigger. We thought that you were a dragon," chuckles Tuffnut in an amusing tone making Helen become more angrier with the ignorance of those two boys.

"Not that there's anything wrong with a dragon as a....." Snotlout was attempting to say to lighten the mood but was stopped as Helen stormed over to him and punched him hard in the face knocking him over making him fall over with an "Ow."

Tuffnut began to laugh more at that but Helen also punched him hard in the face as well but just a bit harder to teach him a lesson about judging a girl on the way she looks. Ruffnut cackled happily at that but stopped as Tuffnut let out a scream of surprise when he was pulled back into the fog by the Zippleback. She raced to go after him but was stopped by Helen. Helen looked around for the dragon worried for her life and the life of her best friend and whispered "wait" to help her understand that this would only make the situation worse.

The two of them got their buckets ready to release the water onto the head of the Zippleback but came up with nothing as Tuffnut ran screaming towards the door of the arena saying he was hurt. "Does he always-" Helen was about to ask Ruffnut with a raised eyebrow in a questioning manner but was stopped by Ruffnut saying "All the time."

"Okay, well then that is one way to let a dragon know where you are," Helen pointed out in a light voice while looking into the fog to find that dragon as her cousin just ran towards the door to the arena as well.

Ruffnut followed her best girl friends example and stood at her side with her bucket ready looking for that dragon. "Very great form girls. When working together in finding that dragon, neither one of you will get hurt," Gobber said in a praising tone from the door of the arena as the smoke had thinned around the rest of the remaining teens to allow him to see what they are doing.

The both of them wanted to thank Gobber for his praise but didn't want to give away their location to the dragon. Nothing happened for a few minutes until the girls heard Fishlegs whimpering and Audun saying just throw the water on it Fishlegs. "The dragons over there, isn't it?" Helen asked Ruffnut sarcastically.

Hearing Fishlegs running away screaming from more gas that was shot after him was the obvious answer. "Come on, we gotta help him. No teammate left behind," Helen said in a determined voice as she quickly, and stealthily, began walking in a fast manner to where she saw the gas come from with Ruffnut not far behind her.

They slowed down to a stop from a few inches away to see Audun trying to throw his bucket of water onto the head that lights the Zippleback gas but failed as it got out of the way. Hearing the head beginning to spark it some more, Helen quickly took action, dropped her bucket of water, and tossed herself onto Audun, using her body to shield him from the explosion, as the gas around them exploded. Ruffnut was able to make it out before the explosion with her water still in tact but looked around for her best friend.

Helen groaned at the pain the explosion caused and tried to get up only to fail with having no strength within her because the explosion took a lot out of her. Audun groaned in pain at the concrete against his back and opened his eyes to see Helen's face inches from his but was contorted in pain. Gently, he was able to push her off of him and place her gently on the ground to find huge blisters on her backside downward while her hair had burnt to where it was now halfway down her back and no longer in its braid but also had some uneven places burnt as well.

Hearing a growl behind him, he turned to see the Zippleback looking at Helen with something he couldn't name but was drawn out of his thoughts when water was splashed onto the sparking head making it vulnerable. Turning around, Audun saw Ruffnut looking at the Zippleback with a murderous expression on her face. The Zippleback quickly retreated into its cage out of fear and pushed itself against the wall to try and stay away from those Vikings.

Ruffnut regained her composure and dropped her empty bucket down before running over to her best girl friend and checked to see if she was okay. "Take her to the healers hut, now," Gobber ordered from behind them.

Audun nodded his head in comply and gently lifted her into his arms before taking her out of the arena to Gothi's. Once he reached his destination, Gothi was already there preparing for Helen's arrival. When Helen was set down gently onto the bed, Gothi quickly got to work to help her with her wounds. Helen could feel Gothi working on her blisters and smiled as she let sleep overtake her since she was too exhausted to stay awake.
