Chapter 15

Once everyone got back and received their rankings, they crowed in the same place they had been when the festival first started, awaiting to hear how they had done and what was next.

"The first game for the first years is finally over! And what a game it was!" Midnight exclaimed. "42 of you have qualified to move onto the next round. You'd all better prepare yourselves for the next test!" Just like before, the wheel spun, landing on what their next game would be.

Cavalry Battle

"Those of you at the top will suffer the most. Of course that's something you'll hear over and over again at U.A. Show us what Plus Ultra means!" She pointed her whip towards Midoriya, a wide grin on her face. "Midoriya Izuku placed first in the qualifier. He'll be worth ten million!"

All of a sudden everyone looked towards Midoriya, their eyes glinting with greed.

You manage to get his points than you're sure to move on. Putting those in first at a heavy disadvantage. Fun. Akina thought, looking at the now terrified boy.

"First Years!" Midnight shouted, getting the glaring student's attention off of Midoriya and back onto her. "These are the rules to abide by. The game itself will last fifteen minutes, individual point values will be added together to reach your teams total. Everybody will know how much you're worth thanks to your headbands. Swipe as many headbands as you can to raise your team's score. Stolen headbands must be worn from the neck up, so the more you steal, the harder it will be to manage. And even if your headband gets stolen, you can keep playing until times up!"

Around her, the students who were moving on started talking with each other, already strategizing on what was to come.

"This is going to be rough, and you can use your quirks as much as you like, but, there are still rules. Make a team fall on purpose and I will slap you with a red card, you will be disqualified!"

With those words, a fifteen minute timer appeared on the screen, signaling that the countdown to make teams was starting.

"Who to join, who to join." Akina mused, placing a hand on her chin. She hummed in thought, looking around at everyone around her. So far a few people have already created teams and were already strategizing. It made sense that people stuck to those in their own classes since they know about each other's quirks more than if they were from different classes.

"Oi, freckles!" A voice called out, breaking Akina out of her thoughts. She looked up, her green eyes meeting red ones. "You prove to be pretty strong. Team up with me."

"Wow, commanding much?" Akina asked, raising an eyebrow. "Why should I join your team and not, say... Broccoli's team, huh?" She asked.

"Broccoli... Deku? Hah, isn't it obvious? Because I'm stronger than that weakling and if you're on my team you'll be able to help me move onto the next round."

"So it's about helping yourself?" Akina said. "Ah, why the hell not. I'll team up with ya."

"Damn right you will." Bakugo scoffed. "Now come on, we need to get some other teammates. Preferably strong ones. I don't want anyone dragging me down."

They managed to rack up two more team members within the next five minutes. Mina and Kirishima. They spent the rest of the time coming up with a strategy, or well, Her, Mina, and Kirishima spent the rest of the time coming up with a strategy. Bakugo mainly stood to the side, watching and glaring at most of the people around them. Though he would put in his own suggestions from time to time, after calling them an idiot.

Once the timer went off, they were ready. Kirishima was going to be in the front, since he could use his quirk to defend himself from Bakugo's explosions. Akina and Mina were in the back, and they were going to focus on making sure nobody sneaks up from behind them. They went to an empty section of the field and got into formation.

"Okay contestants! I hope you're happy with your chosen teams." Present Mic started. "Let's get this party started! One last final countdown before the game starts! Three!"

"Let's get 'em." Bakugo said.

"Yes'sir!" Akina exclaimed, a wide grin appearing on her face.

"Two, one!"

"Begin!" Midnight shouted.

With that, everyone was off. Akina's team ran forwards, following along with everyone else and chasing straight after Midoriya. She heard Bakugo growl when Midoriya flew up into the air and watched as they soared over them and landed a ways away.

"After them!" Bakugo commanded and they turned around, running straight towards where Midoriya had landed. It wasn't long before Midoriya's team was up in the air again, but this time Bakugo didn't just sit back. Without warning he held his arms behind him and shot out explosions, shooting himself up into the air.

"Don't think for a second you're safe!" He shouted from up in the air. "I've got you!" Though it seemed that just before Bakugo was able to reach Midoriya's team and attack he was stopped by a dark shadowy bird who Akina knew was Dark Shadow. He lost momentum and started falling towards the ground, being caught by Akina's vines and brought back to the group.

"What?!! Bakugo was separated from his horses! Is that even allowed?" Present Mic shouted.

"He never touched the ground, so technically it's okay!" Midnight said.

"Hey, warn us next time you do that, hedgehog! I'm not too fond of getting a face full of smoke!"

"Whatever." Bakugo scoffed. "Keep moving!"

The group kept heading towards Midoriya's group, but suddenly another group ran behind them and the sound of shifting fabric filled her ears, causing her to look up towards Bakugo and see that the bandana had been stolen.

"Your class is too small minded. Think bigger." The rider of the group said. His scent was strange, it seemed to take on the scents of those around it— that's probably why she didn't realize it was so close.

"He got us!" Mina exclaimed.

"What'd you say!?" Bakugo seethed. "Come back here!"

"Midnight said the obstacle course was just the first game. And we figured they wouldn't cut that many of us right off the bat, would they. Assuming they keep at least forty contestants for the next event, all we had to do was make sure we stayed within that group as we ran. From our spots in the middle ranks we could fully observe the quirks our rivals had and judge their capabilities. Only a fool would obsess over winning the preliminary rounds, wouldn't you agree?"

It was obvious to Akina that whoever this boy was he was trying to provoke them— or mainly Bakugo. And it seemed like he was slowly succeeding going by how tense Bakugo was getting.

"You planned this as a class?" Bakugo asked.

"It wasn't totally unanimous, but I'd say it's playing out well. It's better than chasing after a temporary front runner like a horse with a carrot waving in it's face. Oh, while I have your attention, you're kinda famous, aren't you? For being attacked by that sludge villain? You'll have to tell me about it sometime. It must be strange to always find yourself in the role of the victim."

Bakugo's anger was now through the roof. "We have a change of plans." He growled. "Before we take down Deku, we're gonna kill every last one on of these B-list idiots."

Akina looked from Bakugo to the boy who had provoked them, "Oh, you're so going to regret saying those things." She said. Since the first group had managed to sneak up on them, Akina was keeping her senses open and was keeping an eye— or well nose and ears— on the two groups advancing on them from behind.

"And now, we've reached the halfway point of the game!" Present Mic announced. "As the Calvary Battle enters its second half, it's anyone's game! Class 1-B has made it a showing, but who will wear the ten million points in the end? That's the real question Sports Fans!"

Akina grinned. They had half of the time left to get back their points and maybe get some more. This was turning out to be more fun than she had hoped for.
