Chapter 3: 2001, July - Tom

As we pull into the camp, I see Melanie waving at me, with Kimberly standing next to her. As the car slows to a stop, I swiftly open the car door and run over to them and envelop them in a tight hug.

"It's so good to see you! I can't believe it's been a year since Bobbie-"

I see their eyes well up with tears, and I instantly regret saying that. Bobbie was abducted last year. I really wish I got to know her better. We never found her.

"Well, at least we are all here together again. At last!" Emil exclaimed, taking our hands in his.

"Umm... Let's go and unpack, and shall we meet again in about half an hour?" suggested Melanie. We all agreed, and separated to go to our respective cabins.

One Week Later...

"Hey, is it just me, or do you feel like we are being watched?"

We decided to go and investigate what was causing our apprehension. It probably wasn't the best idea. We wondered far beyond the campsite until we came across a barbed wire. On it rested a battered sign saying 'WARNING - KEEP OUT'. Everyone just ignored it and lifted the wire up above their heads. How they did it without hurting themselves, I have no idea. I was told to keep watch.

"But why me?"

"You'll get too scared out there in the woods."

"Fair point. Text me if anything happens."

After about 30 minutes I was starting to get quite nervous, because they still hadn't texted me, and they hadn't come back. Suddenly I heard a noise not so far away from where I was standing. It wasn't like a bang, but more like a thud, as if someone or something had fallen. As you can probably guess, I was so scared. My heart was racing, and I was shivering. I decided after long last that I should have a look what had made the noise.

It was a branch. That's all. Just a branch. Well, that's what I told myself anyway. What I actually saw was a footprint. I thought at the time that it could have been an imprint from an animal. It seems crazy to me now that I actually got myself to believe that.

Half an hour later, my friends returned.

"Oh man, are you okay?!?!?!"

"Melanie's hurt her ankle, and I think it might be broken"

They told me that she fell over halfway through the 'expedition' and they had to carry her back to the wire. It was tough trying to get her back to the camp. Everyone was asking questions, but we didn't want to say where we went. We got called into the camp leader's office, not knowing what to expect."

"Woah."

The walls were painted in an overwhelming shade of bright pink. I've never been in his office, and I can kinda see why he doesn't normally let people in.  He led us over to some fluffy pink bean bags, and told us to make ourselves comfortable.

"Firstly, are you guys alright?"

"Yeah, just a few bumps and bruises but we're fine."

Melanie had been transferred to the sick room because of her ankle. I really hope she's okay. But the camp leader, Mr. Norris was trying to pry the truth out of us, so we just told him the story that we told everyone else: we were just fooling around outside camp, but we got lost and Melanie twisted her ankle on a broken branch.

Of course he didn't believe us. He never does. I wish Mr. Greene (Last year's Camp Leader) was still here. He was always so nice to us. I wonder what happened to him...
