Chapter 1
~A few days before~
In a quiet, suburban neighborhood, stood elegant homes. The lawns were a beautiful, grass green color and cut to perfection. Some of the homes had flowers in pots on the porches, others had flowers in hanging baskets. However, the house that stood out above all the rest, was a garish rundown home littered with weeds and lawn chairs. This was The Mitchell Home. In a chaotic room filled with obscure movie posters, puppets, and disco balls, Katie and Lively Mitchell, twins, were dancing to 'I want More', a song that they both loved. The twins were not good at dancing, but they were going for it! Just like they go for everything in their life. Katie grabbed Lively's hand and the two started dancing wildly.
Katie and Lively always felt a little, different than everyone else.
~Flashback~
Young wild eyed, wild haired 7 year old Katie and Lively stood in front of a TV in their classroom.
So they did what any outsider would do; made weird art.
"Behold! Cinema!" Katie and Lively shouted together, gesturing wildly to the tv.
The title card, which was drawn by hand, but full of love and attention, appeared. Dial B for Burger. In the beginning of the movie, Katie sat at the kitchen table casually. She opened a burger wrapper. To her horror it had a face on it.
"Hello, Katie!" The hamburger shouted. The voice over was done by Lively, her voice edited by computer software. Katie threw the burger across the table in surprise,
"Ahh!"
The Hamburger had a top hat and came to life, dancing like a 7-year-old's interpretation of a Broadway act.
"I'm alive now! Even though I'm a hamburger, I want to go to the big city and be a Broadway star! Razzle Dazzle I'm a talkin" just then, Monchi burst into the scene and started to eat the hamburger. "AUGHHHH!!!!" Ketchup flew at the camera like blood. His career is over. "AUGHH! AUUGHH! Oh, gosh, why?! Oh, my innards!" The hamburger continued to shout in pain. The movie ended and the class of children stared blankly at the TV. Katie and Lively looked hopefully for their approval. Will they love the twins' movie, and more importantly- them? Awkward, stunned silence filled the room until a kid made a fart sound with his hand. The rest of the class burst out laughing. Katie and Lively pretended to laugh. Their smiles fell as Katie grabbed the camera and Lively's hand, the twins walking from the front of the room in sadness.
~End of Flashback~
The twins never fit in, for lots of reasons. But movies were always there for them. While Lively was good at drawing, and made a lot of the designs for the characters in the movies the twins made, Katie made them come to life when she made the movies. Katie finished off some work on her computer. Lively also did a lot of the voice overs for the movies that the twins made. Katie glanced at her twin, showing her the edit. Lively gave a thumbs up and a smile. They proceeded to set up a scene in front of a cardboard green screen. Aaron was dressed as a burglar pretending to drive a car.
"Alright Aaron, you're 58 years old, you're a hardened criminal, and you've got nothing to lose." Katie said. Aaron nodded, taking the cardboard wheel and getting into character.
"Go!" Lively shouted, clapping her hands as a sign for action. Aaron's eyes widened and he frowned.
"Oh no, it's Dog Cop!" He shouted, clenching his hand into a fist as he met his nemesis. Katie held up Monchi, who was dressed in a little cop outfit.
"I'm here to bust criminals and lick my own butt," Katie voiced acted Dog Cop, lowering her voice into a sort of growl. "And I'm all out of criminals." Monchi narrowed his eyes.
Rick and Linda watched Katie and Lively film this insane film from a distance- they just don't get what the twins are doing.
The twins' parents parents haven't figured them out yet. To be fair, it took Katie a lot longer to figure herself out than Lively.
Katie tried on a variety of different outfits that Lively had picked out for her: A Cowboy Outfit? Nah. Hippie? Nope. Katie stared, baffled by feminine deodorant. What is this new delivery?
"Katie, it's just deodorant! It's not going to hurt you!" Lively said, exasperated. Lively's eyes widened as Katie was about to try licking it. "Katie, no, no, no!"
The twins' little brother Aaron gets them. Katie, Lively and Aaron watch movies and eat popcorn together. They dance and jump on the bed like Calvin and Hobbes.
But he's got his own weird interests.
Aaron was in his room filled with Dinosaur toys and posters EVERYWHERE. It's like he bought the entire Natural History museum gift shop out of business. He was on the phone. "Hi- Would you like to talk to me about dinosaurs? No? Ok, thank you." He hung up, crossed out a name in the phone book and called the next person. There are HUNDREDS of names crossed out. "Hi- Would you like to talk to me about dinosaurs?" He doesn't miss a beat. This has been going for HOURS.
Linda, the twins' mother, says she believes in them. Linda looked intently at Monchi. She wears her classic funky purple glasses and heart-shaped earrings. Linda had a look of determination on her face. "You can do this, hon." She said in determination.
But she says that to everyone. Monchi, the panting, walleyed family dog who probably can't "do this", was staring at Linda, his staring at either end of his head. "You can look straight!" Linda said. She held up a pen. "Follow this pen." Linda moved a pen back and forth in front of Monchi. "Follow this pen..." Monchi tried to focus to follow the pen- but his eyeballs are drifting around like a Windows 95 screensaver. Linda sighed and stopped trying. She smiled. "You get an A for effort, buster brown!" She plops a gold star sticker on Monchi's nose. Monchi grunted in excitement, his eyes moving towards his nose.
There's a framed photograph of Rick kissing taxidermy as the family looks frustrated behind him. This is every day for them.
Rick is an... unusual man. But he loves nature and can fix anything.
Rick was putting the finishing touches on a home-made snare trap as Katie, Lively and Aaron looked on. "To survive in the outdoors, you'll need to know how to trap wild game," Rick said, setting the trap. Katie really didn't have time to learn all of this. She would rather be making movies with Lively and working towards her dream of becoming a film maker. Rick looked at his kids. "Now, this is very sensitive," Rick whispered. Jim Posey, their next door neighbor, came walking in carrying a tray of freshly cooked, gorgeous brownies.
"Hey, Mitchells! Hailey cooked you up some,"
Realizing Jim is about to step on the trap, Rick dove over and pushed Jim out of the way.
"Oh- Jim! Ahh! NO!" Rick shouted. During this Rick's foot got caught in the snare and he flew up hit his head on the tree branch. An opossum appeared near Rick's foot. Rick smiled. "Hey, who's this curious guy?" The opossum is joined by several friends as they start violently attacking him. Gnashing and clawing at his face.
Rick never shared the twins interest. Lively had a bit of a better connection with her dad than Katie. While Lively was doing some drawing in the room she shared with Katie, Katie walked up to Rick with a hopeful look and an open laptop as Rick was putting up a taxidermy duck on the wall.
"Hey, you wanna see these special effects I made for Dog Cop 5?" Katie asked. Rick didn't look back at his daughter.
"Sorry Katie, I'm a little ocupado." He said. Katie's hopeful expression fell into one of disappointment and sadness. "Want to check out this mallard? It's dead!" Rick said. Katie sighed in sadness.
"It's okay." She said. Katie walked way with her head down, hugging her laptop. Even though she tried to pretend she doesn't want her dad's approval, it's obvious how much this deeply hurts her.
It didn't really bother her, though. Besides, she and Lively had bigger plans. Katie put up a poster for the California College of Film. She and Lively looked at it with determination. They turned to each other and high fived, ready to put in the work to get there.
They poured everything they had into getting into film school in LA. Katie and Lively worked day and night, working their butts off! She and Katie worked together, helping each other with their college acceptance videos. They both had their laptops out, laying on their stomachs on a bed.
'So after watching the epic Dog Cop saga, and 84 of my finest short films, I'm sure the California College of Film would love to accept, Katie and Lively Mitchell! To film school!!' Katie and Lively chuckled while watching their videos back, ready to send it to the school. They both took a deep breath before hitting the "send" button. A few days later, Katie ran into the house after getting the mail from the mail box. There were two letters from the California College of Film, addressed to Katie and Lively. Lively was sitting in their bedroom, reading a book when Katie came rushing in, startling her younger sister.
"Ah! Katie! You can't do that! You know not to interrupt me when I'm reading!" Lively lectured. Katie smiled.
"Sorry, Live. But guess what! We got letters from the college!" Katie said. Lively immediately forgot about the book and gasped.
"Wait, seriously?!" She put a bookmark in her book and jumped up. Katie handed her twin the envelope. Katie looked at Lively.
"On three?" She asked. Lively nodded. "One, two, three!" They both opened their letters. They nervously looked at the news. The twins gasped in excitement. Welcome to Your Future! They got accepted! Katie and Lively raced down the streets of their neighborhood, shouting in joy. "Hahaha! Yes!"
And the other accepted students totally get them! Katie and Lively were video chatting with the other accepted students, Jade, Hanna, and Dirk.
"You guys like Robo-Slayers 4? No one around here has even heard of that." Katie said. Lively glanced at her twin and smiled. Jade smiled at the twins.
"Why not? It's amazing. Oh, by the way, I saw some of your videos online... they're hilarious." Jade said, slapping her hand against the table in her room.
"So good!" Hannah complimented.
"Mind blowing!" Dirk agreed. Katie smiled. This is all she and Lively ever wanted. Lively smiled and rested her head against her twin's shoulder.
After all these years, they're finally gonna meet their people.
