Cam's POV

I was just as surprised as Cocoa. This is my chance to finally apologize for my stupidity. It hurts seeing her with him. But from what I hear, he is a standup guy.

There was a closet in the room so that is where we went.

"First off, we are not making out. I just became Landry's girlfriend tonight, and I am not messing that up."

"I understand that. I know you don't want to hear it, but I need to get this off my chest. I'm sorry for my stupid decision to not listen to you. I'm sorry for hurting you and tossing away our friendship."

"Darn right you hurt me, Cam. The worst part was you telling me good riddance before I went to Lakeside!"

"I know. I know. Tosca, mom, and dad let me have it. I'm sorry."

"How much time do we have left in this closet?!"

"The time is up."

"Goodbye, Cam!!" Cocoa opened the door and walked out. I have no one to blame but myself. After rejoining the group, we finished playing the game.

We all started leaving the room, but I was stopped.

"Yo Calabro, we need to chat. Just so it is clear, Cocoa is mine."

This guy is at least 6'4" tall. I am 6'2" tall myself.

"It is very clear. I have no intention to break up her happiness."

"As long as it is clear, then you and I will not have any problems."

"I'm just glad Cocoa is rid of Channing. I couldn't stand him. And, I still can't stand him. He is the 'player' type."

"Can I ask you - why didn't you hear her out? From what she told me, she just wanted your friendship back and that was it."

"Pride. I was one of the popular kids at school. The pride and ego in me didn't want to hear what happened. I assumed she left me to hurt me, only to find out that her grandmother was really sick. My dad laid me out big time. I had never seen him so angry before. And, nothing happened in the closet. All I ask is that you treat her right."

"I don't care for that Channing character either. And, thank you. I will absolutely treat her right. My name is Landry. What are you trying out for on the football team?"

"I'm Cam. I was a dual player in high school, but I prefer defense - outside linebacker."

"Cool. Most of my friends are defensive players. I'll introduce you to them."

"Thanks."

We left the room to join the others.

Narrator's POV

Landry introduced Cam to his friends. Then, he went dancing with Cocoa.

Cam went back to dance with his date.

Everyone had a great time at the party. And, Landry brought Cocoa home in one piece.

Cocoa's POV

My mom made her macaroni salad for our picnic. Yes! I made some of my grandma's strawberry lemonade, oatmeal raisin cookies and chocolate chip cookies. The food is packed and ready to go.

"Lei and Lalita, are your bags packed? You are not wearing wet clothes in my truck."

They came into the kitchen.

"Yes, Cocoa."

"Good. We just need to load my trunk with the food and wait for Landry."

"Okay, Cocoa." We grabbed the food and placed it in coolers. Then, I grabbed my keys and we left the kitchen.

I already had charcoal in my trunk for the grill. My truck is in the garage, alongside my mom's SUV. As soon as I opened the garage door, we saw Landry pull up to the house.

When he stepped out of his truck, he had several bags.

"Hi. Am I driving or you? Oh, and I made some buffalo wings and crab dip. They are both already warm."

"I'm driving. You can have a seat upfront. And, the food you can put in my trunk. I have two more bags in the kitchen."

"I'll go get them."

"Thanks." Landry went inside while my sisters came out, and might I add giggling.

"You both wait until you get a boyfriend."

"Eww, Cocoa. I don't think so."

"You say that now, Lalita."

Landry came back and put the bags in my trunk. Then, he went to sit in the front seat.

"If you want to, you can park your Escalade in the garage when I pull out."

"That may be a good idea."

"I'll be right back." I went to get my bag out of my room, then find my parents. They were watching television.

"Mom and dad, we are leaving now. I told Landry he can park his Escalade in the garage."

Mom answered, "Okay. Have fun at the beach."

"Thank you." After locking the kitchen door to the garage, I got in my truck, started it up, and backed out onto the street. Landry then parked his Escalade in the garage.

Off to the beach, we go.

I needed gas, so we stopped at a gas station on the way. As I was minding my own business pumping gas in my truck, some college-aged guy walks my way.

"Nice truck. Need help there, beautiful?"

"No thank you. I'm fine putting gas in my own truck."

"Yes, indeed you are fine. Listen, how about you and me go out on a date?"

Seriously dude? You approach a girl with that lame line?! I heard one of my doors opening.

"How about no? My boyfriend wouldn't appreciate it."

"But your boyfriend is not here."

"Yes, he is. Back off, Josh." Landry came and stood behind me.

"She is dating you?! So, like I said how about that date?"

"Rude much?! Look Josh or whatever your name is, I don't appreciate you disrespecting me or Landry. Like he said, back off. And, I have two, impatient sisters sitting in my truck. You don't want them to get out." Too late, and I bet it is Leilani.

"Come on, Cocoa! What's the holdup?!!"

"Josh here had the nerve to ask me for a date in front of Landry." Leilani got right in Josh's face.

"Look, Josh, leave my sister alone. She's dating Landry, who is 10 times hotter than you. Bye!"

"You heard what she said. Now, scram." His little crew laughed at him as he walked back to them. Lei and I high-fived. Landry just laughed.

"Let's get back in the truck. We are getting honked at."

We were able to get our favorite spot at the beach. Yes! Lei and Lalita were about to run off. "Uh hello, you two need to help us unload."

They started sucking their teeth. I don't care. Once everything was set up, "Now you can go."

They took their shorts and shoes off and ran for the water. While Landry and I were heating up the food on the grill, I had to ask.

Landry's POV

"May I ask who Josh is? And, why my sister was two seconds from punching him in the mouth?"

"We used to be best friends in high school until he became too egotistical. He let popularity go to his head. He liked being in charge. So, he dumped me as a friend and found a group he could lead, and boss around. He was the opposite of 'Mean Girls.' He was the 'Mean Guy.' I tried to stop it as much as I could. He is also on the football team, but for our rivals, Silver Valley University. If he ever bothers you or your sisters let me know."

"Sure."

After an hour everything was almost finished. Mr. Richard seasoned some ribs, but those can cook on the grill while we eat the rest of the food.

"The burgers, hot dogs, and steaks are done. We can eat those while the ribs are on the grill."

"Okay." Cocoa went to get her sisters, then we all sat down to eat.

"Okay, tell me your names again."

"Leilani. Or, you can call me Lei. I'm 14 years old, and a freshman at Lakeside."

"My name is Lalita. I'm 16 years old. I am a junior at Lakeside."

"Leilani and Lalita, if that guy at the gas station ever bothers you, let me know. We used to be best friends, but he ended it."

"Okay."

"What we do after we eat is play some games. What games do you like to play? We brought Uno, Sorry, Monopoly, Jenga, and Connect Four," Cocoa says.

"How about Uno?"

Leilani went to grab the cards from the bag full of games. Then, she dealt us a hand of cards. "We are playing pile on with the draw two and draw four cards."

"Landry, you should have picked Sorry or Monopoly. You are in major trouble with Lei sitting next to you," Cocoa mentioned.

The color was blue. So, the only blue card I had was a draw two. Cocoa put a red one down. Then, Lalita also put a red draw two down.

"Landry, you should have listened to Cocoa. Pick up your 10 cards! You may be Cocoa's boyfriend, but you are in my way of winning this game." Leilani plopped a draw four card and changed it to green. I picked up 10 cards.

Cocoa was not joking. Throughout the time we played, Leilani was merciless. The one time I made her draw four, I would have been dead from the look she gave me. Cocoa and Lalita laughed. "Uh, I think it is safe for us to go in the water now.

"You are saved from further embarrassment." Leilani and Lalita took off for the water. Cocoa took off her t-shirt and shorts. "Oh my."

I must have been staring too long because Cocoa waved her hands in my face.

"Earth to Landry! Are you coming into the water?"

"Huh? Oh, I'm coming." I took off my shirt and joined the ladies in the water.

Narrator's POV

The group had a great time at the beach. Leilani even challenged Landry to a swimming contest. And, surprise, she won.

After a while, they came out of the water and played with a frisbee. They ate again after playing with the frisbee.

Cocoa and the crew stayed at the beach until closing. No one wanted to leave, but they all had school in the morning. So, they had to throw away the leftovers that had been out all day, packed up the games, changed their clothes, and made their way home.

Cocoa's POV

We pulled up to the house at 8:30 pm.

"Thank you, ladies, for the invite. I had fun."

Leilani patted Landry's shoulder. "And, thank you for letting me beat you at Uno and swimming."

"Lei!!!"

"Just kidding. You're welcome. Goodnight, Landry." Lei and Lalita then got out of my truck and went in the house.

"I'll back my Escalade out the garage."

"Wait!" I grabbed his shirt and stole a kiss. "My dad is going to be looking for me to come in the house when he sees Leilani and Lalita."

"Right." He got out and opened the garage door. After driving his Escalade out, I parked my Mercedes.

"Call me when you get home. And, see you in the parking lot."

Landry waited until I was in the house to pull away and head home.

Narrator's POV

As soon as Landry made it home, he called Cocoa. In fact, they stayed on the phone until around midnight.

The next day at school, the girls on campus were jealous when they saw Landry and Cocoa holding hands. But their friends were happy for them.

The list for the cheer tryouts would be announced on Wednesday.

Cocoa's POV

Today, the list of those who made the cut for cheer tryouts will be announced. I saw Landry's Escalade, so I parked next to it.

He must have come over because suddenly my door opened. "A gentleman always helps his lady. Good morning, M'lady."

"Since when are you a gentleman?" Nick blurts out while Landry helps me out. After grabbing my bag and backpack, I locked my truck. Then we walked, hand in hand, to the rest of the group.

"Hey, I have always been a gentleman. Not my fault you aren't."

"Boys, calm down. Hey Cocoa, you didn't hear this from me, but you made the cut to try out on Saturday. You will need to do a cheer routine to the song of your choice," Heather says.

Yes!! "Okay. Can I have my sisters do the routine with me?"

"Hmm, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But, check with the coach after school today. We will be meeting on the football field."

"Thanks, Heather."

We stayed there in the parking lot, talking about random stuff until the bell rang for us to go to class.

"See you all at lunch." Landry and I walked to our first class.

Narrator's POV

Later after the school day ended, Cocoa made her way to the football field.

Cocoa's POV

"Thanks for coming with me. Even though I know I made it to Saturday, I'm still nervous."

"Don't be. You absolutely will have a spot on the team. You'll be on the cheer team, and I will be on the football team, leading the team to victory. We will be unstoppable. I'll watch your things."

"Thanks." Before I walked away, this time Landry stole a kiss. Then, I changed into my tennis shoes because my feet are killing me. Then, I ran to join the group. Tosca and the girls were there.

"Hey, ladies."

"Hi, Cocoa. Or, shall we say 'Mrs. Miller?'" Tosca says while the others chuckled.

"Girl, please. We just started dating."

Coach Taylor and Heather came onto the field.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I have before me the list of those who made it to the final stage of tryouts. If your name is not called, you will be able to try next year. Heather will call everyone's name who made it to Saturday."

"Okay, here we go. Cocoa Baker..........." I saw Bryce cutting her eyes at me. I didn't ask for my name to be read off first. Tosca and Mercedes made it. Kay and Li Ming didn't. Unfortunately, Bryce made it. For each female, there will be a male.

After 20 minutes, Heather finished reading off the list.

"On Saturday, for those who made it, you will need to complete a cheer routine to the song of your choice. We will have you all in groups. There will be a different judge for each group. The judges will then conference with Heather and me. We will determine who is worthy of being a part of the team this year. Good luck to everyone and thank you for coming today."

"Sorry, Kay and Li Ming."

"Girl, it's okay. We will be rooting for you guys," Kay says as we hugged each other.

"I'll see you all in the parking lot. I need to catch up with the coach."

I saw Coach Taylor leaving the field. I ran after her.

"Coach Taylor, I wanted to ask you a question about Saturday. For my routine, would I be able to have my sisters do it with me?"

"That would be okay."

Yes! "Thank you!" I ran back to meet up with Landry.

"Coach says my sisters can cheer with me Saturday. Thanks for watching my things." I grabbed my bags, and we made our way to the parking lot.

"You're welcome. I'll be here to cheer you on."

"Aren't you sweet? Thank you for the support. What time is your tryouts?"

We saw some girl standing at Landry's Escalade. We looked at each other confused.

As soon as we got closer, "Oh no. What is she doing here? Remember the girl I told you about from last year?"

"Yes, I remember."

"That's her." He grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight.

"Alyssa, what are you doing here?"

"I want to start the relationship we should have had last year."

Over my dead body will she be doing anything with Landry.
