4. A Talk Over Brioche

Reina:  Two updates? What madness is this? (Read: I want to get to the birthday scene)

Okay, this time I actually did some research about Story of Evil. I promise you.

I think Elluki's scene takes place later...... Shoot. :( (Fun fact: I wrote shoot as I listened to Nemesis shoot herself in Goodbye My Lover. That was an accident. I swear.)

Chapter 4: Talk Over Brioche

"Elluki..." You whisper, completely shocked.

Elluki smiled and waved your red-clad companion away. "Germaine, may I speak to Y/N-chan alone?"

Germaine scowled but nodded and excused herself, leaving you alone with him.

Elluki walked closer. "You've grown quite a bit, Princess."

"Empress," you correct. "I'm Empress now."

Elluki's face fell. "Your father...?"

You nod after deciding it wasn't worth it to yell at Elluki. "Yes. My father passed away around the same time as Queen Anne. I was declared Empress within the day."

Elluki's eyes darkened a bit, but they cleared quickly. "I am so sorry to hear that."

You nod, somewhat uncomfortable. Part of you wanted to hug Elluki. The other part wanted to attack him with a sword. So you settled for a compromise - talking. "Do you prefer Lucifenia over Beelzenia? Is that why you left?" You asked this, as you never understood why Elluki left.

Elluki was taken aback. "Wh-What do you mean?"

"Beelzenia had beauty and tranquility. You threw it away when you defected to Lucifenia. Did you truly hate it there?"

"It had nothing to do with the country," Elluki assured you. "It had everything to do with the royal family."

The air grew heavy as you felt the words slice your heart open. Elluki realized what he said, and began to backtrack. "Y/N, I meant to say that one of the royal family - Ack, I mean-"

"It's fine Elluki," you say quietly as a tear left your eye and trailed quietly down your face. "You could just tell me that you hate me. I'd understand."

It'll make everything easier, you tell yourself quietly. It will allow you to go on.

"Prince-"

"Empress," a voice behind Elluki corrected.

You recognize the voice and quickly wipe the tears out of your eyes. Li walked over to you and grabbed your wrist, leveling a glare at the mage.

"Stay away from the Empress. You're hurting her. Bother her again and I will hesitate to kill you."

You stare at the ground while Li leads you away. You barely recognize what's happening, until you hear a cough. You look up to see Allen.

"My apologies," he said quietly. "I had no idea that you and Elluki have a bit of tension. Princess Riliane knows, and has offered to execute Elluki for you."

"What? No," you reply. "It's not a good sign if she executed one of the Three Heroes. Besides, he's immortal. I cam just avoid him."

Allen nodded. "I shall inform the princess. She wants to know if you'll have a snack with her."

Li opens to speak, but you cut him off. "I shall join her."

Allen bows and you follow him back to the room where Riliane was. She sat there and waited until you were seated and the servants were dismissed.

"I apologize for my behavior," you begin before she cuts you off.

"I had everything explained to me. No worries. I do have a question though."

"Yes?"

"Do you like cake?"

You blink a bit, taken aback by the question. You then shake your head and answer. "I do."

Riliane smiled. "Perfect."

Someone knocked on the door before entering, revealing Allen holding some brioche. Riliane's eyes lit up as Allen handed it to her, along with some utensils, before leaving and closing the door.

It was then you realized that you didn't get any, and you probably weren't getting any. Oh well. You weren't a fan of brioche, so it didn't matter

You decide to have a talk with Riliane. "Riliane, may I ask when you are marrying Kyle?"

Riliane looked at you, confused and with a fork in her mouth. "Why? Are you trying to marry him?"

"No," you laugh. "I'm not interested. I don't even remember what he looks like, and the nobles of my country are lining men left and right for me. If they catch wind of this, I'll have to pick someone to take with me to the wedding, and I want to be prepared."

"Oh," Riliane nods, finally understanding what you were saying. "Hopefully soon."

You smile. "I wish you luck."

You look out the window and sigh. "The nobles of my country are rather controlling. It's getting to the point where I only trust my sisters, my retainers, and my friends. You're lucky that people here listen to you."

Riliane smiled at that. "Of course. I execute them if they don't."

"Okay," you say slowly, hoping that she was joking.

"I cannot wait for the party in two days," she says calmly, as if she ignored what she just said. "It'll be epic!"

"It will," you agree. "Princess Riliane?"

"Yes?"

You sigh before beginning. "I hope that despite our parents' war, we can be allies. If you ever need anything, do not hesitate to let me know."

Allen reentered the room. "Prime Minister Minis needs to talk economics with you, Princess."

"Alright," you say as you stand up and bow before Riliane. "I shall rest. Thank you for allowing me to join you, Princess Riliane." With that, you followed Allen back to your room.

"Empress Y/N?" Allen asks as you are close to your room. "Thank you for arriving early."

"You are welcome, Allen," you reply. "Thank you for inviting us."

You reach your room and wait for Allen to leave before entering. You find Li curled up in a chair, asleep, and Yoshi placing a blanket around his shoulders.

"Li fell asleep after he unpacked everything," Yoshi explained. "I didn't have the heart to move him."

"Li can sleep anywhere," you laugh.

Yoshi reached behind his head and scratched it, avoiding your gaze. "Y/N, I'm sorry for snapping at Li. I was frustrated about what happened with the bowing, and he was in my path when I lost it. I did apologize to him while you were with Riliane."

"That is good to hear," you reply. You head off to the closet and closed it, changing into night clothes. You exit, seeing that Yoshi has done the same.

You're about to lay down and go to sleep when Yoshi grabs your arm. You turn to him. "Yes?"

"Empress... I shall defend you from Elluki. I swear to you on my life."

You smile and hug Yoshi. "Thank you, Yoshi."

With that, you went to bed and fell asleep.

---------

Meanwhile, while Y/N, Li, and Yoshi slept, as well as half the castle, a figure was still awake. Sitting in a chair facing the window in his room was Elluki. He couldn't sleep, as the day's events kept playing over and over in his mind.

He really shouldn't have said that. He drove Y/N away.

That was a mistake.

Elluki said and put his hand on his face, cursing. "Y/N....."

He imagined her in front of him, sipping on tea and waiting for him to finish. He envisioned a sunny day, with birds chirping and the threat of Irina gone forever.

"I didn't leave Beelzenia because of you."

He could see her tilt her head in confusion, prompting for him to continue. He could imagine the teacup being lowered as he looked her in the eye.

"I left because of your father..."

Reina: Elluki views Y/N as a friend at this point. He left when she was younger. But I made him a jerk by accident... He'll redeem himself, I promise.

Anyway, I didn't write that Riliane actually wanted to execute Y/N for leaving after seeing Elluki, but Allen pointed out that killing the Reader would cause a war, so she refrained from doing so. Then she threatened to kill Elluki.

I feel that Riliane and Allen are OOC..........

I don't know if I should have Riliane view Y/N as the sister she never had (she doesn't know about Ney) and possibly having someone (read:Ney, or she says something and Ney kidnaps you anyway) kidnap the Reader, or something happens and she holds you hostage to prevent Beelzenia from interfering with the Green Hunting. If not, then you help Germaine from the get-go because of Yoshi.

The next chapter will deal with Riliane escaping, and then possibly the birthday. It depends on how long that is. I want to write that chapter from Li's point of view, but I don't know if I should have it as:

Li smacked Yoshi square across the face. "Pervert! Leave Germaine alone!" Seeing this, Germaine laughed. "I could have dealt with him, Li."

Or:

I smacked Yoshi square across the face, enraged. "Pervert!" I spat. "Leave Germaine alone!"

I could hear Germaine laugh behind me. "I could have dealt with him, Li."

One last thing....

It's about Yoshi....

His last name Invidia is Spanish for Envy. :')
