36. Lab

How Aiden managed to buy out the company, empty the lab, and secure it with the royal guard is commendable. By the time we reached the lab, Aiden was the sole owner of the company.

We are at my laboratory level. Aiden holds the door open for me. Even though he's upset, he's still a gentleman.

"You said only comparison was left before Adrian was attacked. Complete it now. Your research is the key." He says this, leading me towards my computer.

I power it on and login to my private account to download the files.

"So Aurelia, You have never told me what your research is about? You have said that it is about your abnormality but you never elaborated." He says, leaning on my desk, his left palm rests on the edge of my desk for support.

This is the first time in two days that he has spoken to me directly, without making any faces.

I turn towards him, giving him my entire attention.

"So you know DNA is what we use to classify species, right?"

Aiden rolls his eyes as he says, "I may be an engineer by degree but I do own a genome company. So, of course."

I smile sheepishly at him and continue, "So the DNA of an average werewolf is eighty percent identical to that of a human and the same is the case for other supernaturals. The rest, nineteen point five percent, is unique for each species. About one tenth of DNA is unique to the individual."

His mouth forms an 'o' as he hears my words as he nods in understanding.

"What about your genetic makeup, then?" Aiden is now serious as he gazes at me.

"Well, you hit the nail on the head. Before I met you, I was able to compare mine with that of a werewolf. It is seventy-five percent werewolf." I say, dropping my shoulders and pursing my lips.

"What about the other twenty-five percent?" He inquires.

I shrug my shoulders in response. "That is what I was hoping to know. I want to compare my DNA with that of other supernatural beings. Only then can I know."

"Hmm. Well, you will get to know soon." His words are assuring as he smiles at me tightly but then his brows come together in confusion.

"Heyy. Wait, you can get a sample of werewolf DNA from Nana or your uncle. But where did you get the DNA samples of others?"

"Umm, well that..." My eyes roam around the room, unwilling to meet his gaze.

"Aurelia!! No secrets any more," he growls, his palms now resting on his waist.

I look at him gulping and manage to choke out the words, "Fae princess Maria gifted me Fae and Mer blood and I was able to scrape off vampire DNA from my clothes that I wore on the day we found the vampire Lint."

"What? That was the gift you got from her that day." he stands shocked now, his hands dropping to his sides as he connects the sots together.

"Yes," I say, cringing at his reaction.

He narrows his eyes at me for a few moments before rolling his eyes. "Damn Fae."

Aiden cracks his neck and it resonates through the empty lab. He glances at the screen.

"It looks like it will take a while for the data to download. I'll go and drink some water. Do you want a glass?"

"Only if it isn't a chore for you." He rolls his eyes again in response and walks away.

The only water dispenser is near Adrian's office, which is on the next floor. Now that I am alone in the office, the sound of Aiden's steps starts fading away and I begin tapping the desk.

I hear the creaking of a door and look at where Aiden left off. However, the door through which Aiden left is closed. Suddenly, the laboratory door opens and I see Harry, the lab tech, walking through it.

My brows scrunch in confusion. I thought all the employees were given extended leave. Harry waves at me, grinning at me.

I wave back at him. "Hi, Aurelia. How are you doing?"

"I'm good. But what are you doing here? I thought everyone was on leave."

Harry walks forward and drags a chair from the neighbouring computer. He places the chair in front of my desk and says, "You are here."

"Yes but..." I start, only to be cut off by him.

"There are certain privileges you get as the Alpha King's mate. Don't you?"

I am shocked by his words and my beast growls, alert to the situation. I try to sniff him and then I notice his scent. He has a certain rustic edge to his scent that was absent when I used to see him earlier. But he still smells human.

I focus on his eyes to see them with white dots like a vampire. I growl at him.

"How do you know about that?" He laughs at my words, his shoulders shaking.

"I know a lot of things similar to the data you are downloading." His laughter turns into a snarl as he pounces at me.

There is no doubt now. He is the snitch.

I growl and meet him head-on. His hands are now claws, and his nails are elongated like those of a vampire. However, I am not afraid of his claws.

This is too much. I am done reining in my beast and I unleash all of my power. He comes at me but I don't stop and run into him like a bull, my head at the level of his torso.

His claws grab my shoulders, digging in but I don't stop until we reach a desk. His back hits the desk and he grunts with pain. Seazing the opportunity, I rise in the fraction of a second and claw out his eyes.

He yelps in pain, clutching at his eyes. I sense someone behind me and turn around, snarling, ready to punch, my fists raised.

"Whoah. Aurelia. It's me, Aiden."

Aiden stands behind me, his hands raised in a surrendering gesture. I look at him and let out a sigh of relief.

I lower my raised fists and he growls out. "Who is this?"

I grind my teeth together and spit out the words, "Harry, the lab tech."

Harry, meanwhile, is now rolling on the floor, growling in pain. Aiden sniffs the air, his face tilted down, nostrils enlarging as he takes in Harry's scent.

"What a strange scent he has," he says, bringing his brows together.

Suddenly, Harry roars and pounces on me but Aiden is too fast for him, so he stops Harry by his neck and pins him to the wall. Blood drips from Harry's closed eyes as he tries to claw Aiden's hands off his neck.

He gasps for breath, trying to take some air but Aiden's grip is too strong. Aiden raises Harry a foot off from the ground. Now, Harry is pressed against the wall, with Aiden's hands the only thing supporting him as they squeeze his neck.He keeps kicking his feet in the air.

Soon, Harry's kicking will slow down. But we can't let him die. He might know who is behind all of this. I hold Aiden's bicep and rub his back.

"You have to let him go. He might be useful for extracting data."

Aiden turns to look at me but his eyes are bright with his wolf presnt in them. I caress his back more and he closes his eyes for a moment and when he opens them back, they are back to normal. His deep black eyes shine. He nods at me and releases Harry, who now gasps for breath, taking in huge lungfuls of air.

In a moment, the elevator pings open and Henry walks in, along with Bill and a few other Weres. They angle their necks in submission to the king before proceeding towards Harry, tying him up, and carrying him out of the office.

"How was he able to stay here, Henry?" Aiden growls at Henry.

Henry bows his head and says, "There are no CCTV cameras in the lab. Maybe that is how King. I will check for surveillance at any other emergency exits in the building. Maybe that is how he was able to sneak in."

I look at my hands; they are covered in blood, no doubt Harry's. A clean white kerchief enters my line of sight. I look up and see Aiden's arm outstretched with the kerchief in his palms.

I take it from him and wipe my hands off. A few more Weres enter the office, standing guard. Great. More security.

I walk towards my computer and check the screen. A smile breaks out on my face. The data is downloaded, and I open the application needed for comparison and upload the data. Aiden drags a chair and sits beside me, glancing at the screen.

I purse my lips and wait for the data to upload. First, I compare my blood sample with a standard Were sample and repeat the process with the samples of other supernatural creatures, noting down the percentages on a notepad as I go.

In a few minutes, I am done with the results, and I stare at the notepad in astonishment. I am shocked by the results as my notepad falls out of my hands and drops to the ground.
