Sixty-Nine- Nice

(Haha nice)
Peridot's pov

The weekend following Yellen's party, Mother insisted everyone wake up at the crack of dawn.

"What's going on?" Yellen asked, still tired.

"We're celebrating Peridot's birthday this weekend." I choked a bit on my coffee.

"Really? But we hadn't discussed it yet." Mother smiled.

"Thats because it's a surprise. Now, it's not my first choice, but I decided you'd probably enjoy this more than anything else."

"What are we doing?" I asked.

"We're going to Funland." Yellen and I looked to each other in shock. We'd always loved Funland a children despite rarely going.

"Really?" Mother waved her hand.

"Yes, really. Now go get dressed while we wait for Blue to get here. She's taking Centi for the day." Yellen and I smiled and ran off to get dressed. "Wait, girls?" We stopped.

"Yeah Mom?"

"I forgot to tell you, you can each invite a friend of you'd like. I really don't plan on riding any rides." We both nodded.

"Thank you!"

"And Peridot," I sighed, stopping again.

"Yes?"

"That means a friend in Beach City." I groaned. She knew me too well.

And that's how I ended up bringing Sapphire with me. It was a simple process of elimination, she was simply the person I was closest to in Beachy City, beside Pearl, who I didn't think would like to go.

"This is going to be so much fun!" Sapphire said as we drove closer to the amusement park.

"I can't wait!" Bella agreed from the front seat. Yellen, on the other side of Sapphire, had a map of the park pulled up on her phone.

"So I think the best course of action would be to do some of the calmer rides first, then break for lunch, then do some of the bigger rides. Then we can play the games before we leave." Everyone seemed to agree.

"Dont forget, Yellen. I'm taking phones once we get in. Nobody needs to lose a phone or get too distracted." Everyone nodded. Mother finally pulled into the entrance, which was heavily crowded despite it only being Funland's second weekend open. "But most of all, I hope we have fun today, girls."

Yellen's plan worked perfectly. It seemed a though the majority of the park had decided to ride the biggest rides first to beat the lines, leaving us with relatively short lines as we made our way through the park. Everything went off without a hitch until we got stuck at the top of the Thunderbird coaster.

"Are you serious?" I asked. "This is the biggest ride here!" Sapphire laughed.

"Don't worry, Peridot! That just means we have more time to hang out." I sighed.

"Alright."

"Thanks for inviting me out. To be honest I wasn't expecting to be on your list of people to invite out." I shrugged.

"To be honest, you were kind of my first choice. My closest friend is probably Amethyst, but you can see why we couldn't invite her." Sapphire smiled.

"That's an honor. I really assumed you'd invite Pearl before me." I shrugged.

"I don't think she likes rides. Also... I'm not really sure how to feel about her."

"Why not?" I sighed.

"Do you think she hates me?"

"What? Why would she hate you?"

"Because she won't talk to me. Because I abandoned her. And now things are getting worse for her and where am I? Stuck at the top of a roller coaster."

"Peridot, none of that makes you a bad person!" She placed a hand on mine. "You were both going through a tough time and you needed a break. You're okay."

"But Pearl-"

"Pearl isn't your responsibility, Peridot. I know you're worried about her, but she's okay. She's going to be okay. She doesn't need you to worry for her, she needs you to be supportive of her. She'll talk to you when she's ready." I smiled.

"Hey, you're right. I actually feel kind of... better now." Sapphire smiled.

"See? You're fine. Well, except for the stuck on a roller coaster part. I can't exactly fix that." We both laughed.

"Thanks, Saphire. You're a good friend." Just as I finished, the ride started up again.

The rest of the day went perfectly. After we'd ridden pretty much everything we wanted to, we played some of the games. I actually managed to win a large stuffed alien at one of the ring toss games. It almost seemed too quick when it became dark and Mother wanted to go home.

"Well Peridot? Was your day out fun?" She asked.

"Yeah." I smiled, hugging my stuffed alien tighter.

"Good, because I'm not doing anything else." We all laughed.

"Seriously though, that was great." Yellen said, smiling. "Even more fun than my birthday was."

Once we had dropped Bella and Sapphire off at their homes and picked up Centi, we drove home. However once we got there we immediately noticed something was different. That 'something' being a car in our driveway and the lights inside being on.

"Did you leave the lights on?" Yellen asked anxiously.

"No." Mother looked at the car. "Jesus Christ." She pulled into the driveway quickly and immediately got out of the car. "Get your sister, Yellen."

I followed her as she briskly walked into the house, which was completely unlocked. I tensed up. She was silent until she stood in the doorway of the living room.

"What the hell are you doing here?" She asked. Her voice was stern yet calm. Yellen, carrying Centi, joined us as I looked into the room and saw my aunt seated on the couch.

"Why hello to you too, Yellow. I trust we didn't startle you too much." Mother narrowed her eyes.

"Why are you in my house, White?" White laughed.

"Oh Yellow, you're such a kidder! Come, sit, I just sent Wilhemina to make a pot of coffee." Yellen and I jumped a bit at the knowledge that she was there. Mother didn't looked amused.

"Why did you come into my house while I wasn't home?"

"Well, I heard from Blue that you were out for the day to celebrate darling Peridot's birthday, so I thought I'd stop by to give a gift." She reached into her large purse and pulled out a box similar to the one Yellen's necklace came in, black with a silver bow, only smaller.

"White, I-" She held up her free hand.

"Don't say a word, Yellow. I wanted to, really." She motioned me forward, and I looked up at Mother, who didn't look very pleased. Cautiously, I stepped forward. "Come a little closer, Starlight."

"Alright," I said, sitting in the chair across from her. I felt very uncomfortable as Mother and Yellen watched her hand me the box. I opened it slowly to reveal a bracelet. "It's... beautiful." It truly was. The bracelet was silver with diamonds, and was accented with a Peridot stone that was slightly larger than the rest.

"Do you like it? I'll admit, I got a little carried away. It's by the same designer as your sister's necklace, also one of a kind. I thought you'd like it."

"I do, it's breathtaking." White smiled, looking almost smug.

"Peridot, why don't you take that to your room? I'd like to talk to your aunt." I nodded and left. Yellen followed me as I almost ran up the stairs.

"What are you going to do with it?" She asked as we reached my bedroom.

"Nothing." I said. I opened the top drawer on my dresser and shoved the box to the back, closing it again. "I am going to leave that there and try to forget it exists." Yellen nodded and sat on my bed with Centi.

"I know how you feel. It's the same way I feel with the necklace. It's so pretty but it feels so.... wrong." She shuddered.

"What did you do with it?"

"I put it in my closet," she confessed. "Up on the shelf, pushed all the way to the back. I don't like to think about it."

"I wonder what they're talking about..." I looked at the door.

"I don't think Mom's happy about the gifts either. These are really expensive, Peridot."

"Well geez, I thought when she said they were designer and one of a kind, she meant they were worthless." Yellen gave me a disapproving glance.

"You know what I mean. I think Mom can see underlying motives." I didn't respond. Not because I didn't have an answer, but because I knew she was right.
