Eight-New Year, New You
Peridot's Pov
School had been in session for a little over a week. So far being a tenth grader appeared to be similar to being ninth grader in almost every way.
"Oh, Peridot!" Almost.
"Ugh, what do you Clods want?" In addition to having almost every class with Aquamarine, she had decided to seat herself at our lunch table every day.
"Only to ask you a question. How much would you say that being the Headmistress's daughter has given you an advantage?" I sighed and turned to Pearl.
"Why did you have to invite them to sit with us?"
"To be polite. Honestly, what would you do without me?" Pearl asked, smiling at me.
"Probably become a shut-in." I smiled and kissed her on the cheek.
"Ew, PDA alert guys," Amethyst said moving her food around with a fork.
"Are you okay?" I asked. Typically, Amethyst would have already devoured her meal. She sighed.
"Does it look like I'm okay?" Pearl reached over and placed a palm on hers.
"I understand how you feel. I miss Opal too." Amethyst snapped her hand away.
"No, you don't!" She said, suddenly aggressive. "None of you know could possibly know how I feel because you haven't lost the only person in the whole God damn world who actually loves you!" She stood up. "Maybe you lost someone who cares about you, but I lost someone who protects me." She grabbed her lunch tray and walked away.
"Should we... go after her?" Pearl asked.
"I wouldn't." Aquamarine chimed. Before I could ask her politely to shut u and never speak again, she continued. "Your little friend is clearly upset because she feels as if you're trying to tell her that her feelings mean less than they do. What she needs is space."
"As much as I hate to admit it... she's right." I sighed. "We'll just have to talk to her once she's calmed down."
"What's wrong with Amethyst?" Yellen asked, sitting down across from me. Her friend Bella, who was just about as interesting as a toaster, sat down beside her.
"She's upset because her sister is attending college currently." Pearl explained. Yellen nodded.
"I guess she must miss her a lot. I miss Centi and I literally just saw her ten minutes ago." Pearl looked to me for clarification.
"Mother has Centi in her office." I explained, turning my attention back to my sister. "Why are you two here?"
"That's not important. What's important is that you still think that you can get out of the class trip." She smirked. Pearl's face lit up with recognition.
"That's right! We're going camping as a class!" She grinned, whereas I sighed.
"I still refuse to attend. I'll fake my own death if I have to."
"Oh come on, why don't you want to go? You can literally choose your tent group." Yellen continued to babble on until I interrupted her.
"I just don't see the point. It's advertised as 'a chance to get to know our classmates and how they've changed.' They haven't changed! Right, Pearl?" I turned to face Pearl, whose eyes were wide and focused on something behind me.
"I wouldn't say that. I think at least some people have changed." She said timidly, not taking her eyes off of the object.
"Oh come on, what is it?" Yellen asked, turning her head. "Holy shit. Looks like Lazuli got herself a new look." At the mention of Lapis, I turned to see her.
"Oh my stars."
(A/N) You guys it took me forever to write this because I realized that I haven't given Peridot much of a storyline for this book.
Random Fact of The Day: It took me forever but I've finally decided that Alex's hair isn't green, it's brownish black. 😢
